Diner Reviews
  • "Great location with plenty of free parking on site (a plus). Nicely appointed with a great bar. The only disappointing thing was the food. The vegetables and rice were bland, the seafood was average."

  • "Food is always outstanding. A real gem in restaurant filled Cape May."

  • "This is the second time we have been to Oyster Bay and both times the food and service were outstanding. The menu is extensive and the specials are outstanding satisfying everyone's tastes."

  • "I didn't think the food was exceptional. It was ok but nothing was awesome. We might have picked the wrong night because our friends think it is the best in Cape May."

  • "This is the third time that we've taken guests to the Oyster Bay Bar, and each time it lives up to my recommendation. We chose to eat in the bar area, just because we had our son and his wife with us, and they sometimes prefer a less formal atmosphere. The flatbread was exquisite, and my son said that his salmon entrée was "like butter." We have more guests coming this summer, and we will be back to Oyster Bay!!"

  • "The bar is quaint, but not cramped. Large friendly bar with more quiet hightops around the exterior. Not your typical bar food. The seafood and flatbreads are outstanding. The dining section is more formall but not "stuffey". The dinners are as good as anywhere in Cape May BUT you don't leave hungry. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Will return often for drinks and snacks with friends or romantic dinner."

  • "My wife and I were impressed with our dinners, the service and wine were excellent. Could not have been easier for first timers."

  • "The food was OK. I had the surf and turf for $42. The filet was choice and I ordered it medium which came out medium. The lobster tail was somewhat overcooked and a bit tough. It was OK but not worth $42."

  • "Had a great dinner and service. Decor was very nice and we plan to go back the next time in Cape May. Put it in your list to try!"

  • "The presentation was attractive. I enjoyed the brie salad. The were dissapointing. The seafood medley over linguine was not memorable, it tasted like Old Bay. The grouper was over cooked. The chicken marsala was again nothing special."

  • "We went here for a Saturday evening with the family. Wife, Niece and Son. We were underwhelmed. The hostess was nice and showed us to our table upon arrival. The table selected was in a busy thoroughfare between rooms. Too much activity to focus on dinner. Ordered Surf and Turf, Lamb, and Filet. Steaks were the best bet. Lamb was very poorly prepared. Only served rice or mashed potatoes...very unimaginative. Vegetable selection was one... a julienne of zucchini, squash, carrots. This was as creative as a 24 hour diner. Expensive and overpriced, nice atmosphere in entry point to Cape May was the plus. Parking was full and we ended up paying in the lot across the street. Nice location but unless the food changes...never again."

  • "All in all, a really nice restaurant experience. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The entrees were nicely done and the key lime pie was excellent. Not inexpensive but still worth the cost."

  • "We tried Oyster Bay as a replacement when we decided to cancel a previous reserv. Glad we did. Huge portions, unique presentation of familiar dishes. I will skip an appetizer next time so I can enjoy the whole entree. Couldn't take leftovers w/ me bc we are on vaca. & had no place to keep them. We will be back !"

  • "We arrived in Cape May with great expectations of good restaurants, and I had selected this one my research before leaving home. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in this restaurant. The only selection of oysters was blue point from the Chesapeake Bay – none from colder waters in New England or the northwest. I expected more from a restaurant with “oyster” in its name. I had the oysters, since I had my heart set on having good oysters. They were ok, but not what I expected. My wife had New England clam chowder, which was tasteless. My wife had grouper and I had veal scaloppini. Both were only passable. I am sorry that we spent our first dinner in Cape May at this restaurant and would not recommend it to our friends."

  • "We have passed this restaurant many times I. The last 20+ years we have been coming to Cape May and never paid any attention. We were looking for something different for a birthday celebration. A shopkeeper on Washington Mall suggested this place. Wow, what a find. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent, plentiful food, friendly and courteous staff, friendly bar. I will definitely be back, and will bring more friends, and recommend to anyone going to Cape May."

  • "A top-notch restaurant in all respects = up-to-date dining rooms that are well arranged and decorated, a diverse menu, well prepared food and an excellent wait staff. The portions are large so bring your best appetite or plan to take something home. The andouille and eggplant appetizer is a favorite of mine. The bar is very popular. It is obvious that the owners and employees are proud of their restaurant."

  • "Good value! Meals are generously sized and tasty. We are in one of the three dining rooms and it was very nice. The waiter (Jack ) was attentive. They have a great bar where you can have small meals; burgers, fish tacos or salads etc. or order from the main menu. TV's to watch your favorite sport event. Or just have a great martini or a ice cold beer! On a warm night this place cools you down!"

  • "Service by Steve was terrific. Portion sizes were very large. OB&S might want to consider smaller portions sizes for popular meals that are frequently ordered (along the lines of lighter fare). All in all an enjoyable experience. "

  • "As always, good food in an attractive room. Bay oysters delicious; grouper excellent. Worth googling to find location; lots of free parkig."

  • "We love Oyster Bay! The service is exceptional..ask for Michelle. We are always greeted warmly at the door and the food is outstanding. Three in our party had a salmon special that was to die for..and never, ever skip dessert. The warm Bananas Foster cheesecake is heavenly. If you are in the Cape May area...GO!"

  • "Dined here on a slow night... the service was attentive but the food was olive-garden quality for twice the price. I was hoping for more. The ambience might have been upscale in the early 90s (there is even a Ann Gedes baby photo in the women's room), but now it's just kind of outdated and tacky. It is the kind of place your grandparents would go only for the reason they had been going for years. "

  • "It is not. It is serviceable shore restaurant. As folks who frequent "all year" Cape May dining establishments as opposed to "seasonal" - we're on a quest to find a replacement restaurant for the Merion Inn. The crusted grouper was the highlight of the evening, well seasoned, crunchy outside, delicate inside. The veal didn't resemble any veal we'd ever tasted and the london broil was flat, slathered in brown sauce without much on the seasoning side. It was accompanied by "Blue Cheese" potatoes which were cubed undercooked red bliss with a dollop of blue cheese salad dressing. Only reason I comment on them - is because our dining companion asked for them as a substitution, but was told it was unlikely. She didn't miss anything."

  • "All apps came out but one. We had to remind her that 1 out of 4 apps never came out. Food was tasty although 2 shrimp dishes were over cooked and rubbery. My husband's surf n turf was great and so was my daughters steak."

  • "The filet and crab is always delicious . The filet was cooked perfectly and the bernaise sauce is wonderful. The cheesecake in a bananas foster sauce is one of the best desserts around. The service was particularly slow this visit, we sat for 10 minutes with empty plates before our waitress came to our table and then another 10 before she was back to take our dessert order."
