Diner Reviews
  • "The meal was great from beginning to end. Oya's cucumber cocktail was the best I've had;the hint of tarragon was just enough. The tiny biscuits were to die for! OYA's menu is great for both sushi lovers AND those who prefer meat or fish. Although I am not a lover of kale, the kale quinoa salad made me think twice. It was very tasty and the blend of textures was just right. I had sushi this time around, but would go back for the branzino and other menu selections. It was a cold rainy night, so we really appreciated the warmth of Oya's fireplace. Our waiter, Alexis, was attentive without being overly so. Will definitely go back to this one!"

  • "The staff was wonderful. They took care of all of our needs immediately. The food was very good. My date was impressed with the decor and the attentiveness of the wait staff. The server was very attentive and always checks on us to ensure that we were being taken care of and getting exactly what we ordered. The manager stopped by and asked if there was anything that he could do to make our experience better. It's a great restaurant, especially for a first date if your really make to make an impression on the person you are with. The decor is very upscale."

  • "Took a friend for a belated birthday. Food was great, service excellent AND it was quiet enough that we could talk."

  • "The concierge at the Grand Hyatt recommended this restaurant. From the moment I walked into the restaurant I was treated like royalty. The service was great and the food was exceptional. The Chilean Sea Bass is a must have. This will be a regular stop for me when I hit DC."

  • "I love, love, love this place! The bento box for lunch is amazing and so is everything else. Yellow tomato soup...my favorite menu item! I have never been for dinner, but bet it's just as great. The service is always incredible."

  • "The service was very friendly. The waitress gave us good suggestions and feedback on food choices. the atmosphere and ambiance was perfect for a romantic diner for two. Our only issue was the noise level. We would have preferred a slightly quieter diner but when you have great food and service, you expect the place to be packed."

  • "Great place, great food , and a great staff as a whole the we had waitresses was on point with the event I had plan which made the night evening better thanks."

  • "Gorgeous white walls made of paper roses, marble, fireplace, and waterfall. Ginger peach soda is great. Do not order the sweet potato gratin - it was bitter. The other food we ordered was fine (sushi, macaroni and cheese, and molten chocolate cake). This is a great date place, with lovely chandeliers and candles. Very elegant atmosphere. But expensive!"

  • "I went for a bachelorette party. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The food was amazing. I had two sushi rolls and they were wonderful. I started out with the lobster dip which was delicious. Everyone in the party enjoyed their food. The bride to be received a little cake which was delicious! Great experience. I will definitely be going back!"

  • "We felt rushed. Otherwise, would have given a perfect score. The waiter was very nice. But it was obvious they wanted our group out pronto! There were eight of us."

  • "Service was great. Drinks were great. The calamari appetizer was delicious but, the entrees left something to be desired. The NY Strip was very tough and almost inedible and the Chilean Sea Bass, which was highly recommended, was too oily."

  • "Great food, beautiful atmosphere, good service ! Perfect for gatherings with friends or if you want to really impress your date."

  • "I went with two friends on a Friday night. It was packed and very loud which is great for people watching but if you want an intimate meal this would not be the best scene. Ordered several appetizers and dishes along with cocktails. They were good but nothing great and overall not worth the price charged. Service was excellent. I would come back and maybe just grab drinks at the bar."

  • "We returned to Oya after a year. Our dinner was average at best. While the sushi rolls for appetizer were excellent, our entrees were sub par. The pork chop with cherry sauce entree was tasteless and dry, the cherry sauce was too sparse to taste, the chili polenta was quite skimpy and also lacked taste. It was disappointing. The noise level in the restaurant was so loud that it was quite difficult to talk - seating was packed super tight and the restaurant was full. Service was terrific but simply couldn't overcome the food. Oya has been our go-to restaurant for pre-concert dinners for many years as the proximity to the Verizon Center is great; however, with many many restaurants in the neighborhood, we will likely choose another next time."

  • "We received a warm welcome when we checked in with the host for a pre-concert dinner. Oya is a treat for the eyes and the palate! We enjoyed a very tasty warm spinach and lobster dip to start. Susan ordered the whole branzino over a melange of vegetables. It was expertly prepared and delicious. My duck ragu over pasta was very tasty, though after tasting the branzino, I wish I had gone there. Jan loved her salmon and Irv was pleased with his perfectly cooked Kobe burger with truffle fries. Jan's individual pineapple upside down cake looked pretty and disappeared in its entirety. My 3 small scoops of rum raisin ice cream were super-creamy, and with a little more rum flavor would have been perfect! Server Sean was skilled and friendly."

  • "My date and I had a 6PM reservation on a Saturday. We arrived slightly early but were seated immediately. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and Butternut Squash ravioli, both were recommended and tasted great. We finished with the molten chocolate cake. Service was exceptional, the manager swung by and asked some minor questions about our experience at Oya. My experience exceeded expectations; I would recommend going again."

  • "Oya is an awesome restaurant. They made by significant other birthday very special. It was my 3rd time there and his first time. He had a birthday that he will remember forever. Great ambience and staff. The food was also great.I will highly recommend this place esp if you want it to be a surprise. A plus service all the way around. He was speechless, which is great :-D"

  • "Oya restaurant and lounge scene is a romantic and luminous venue. The tea lights on the table, chandeliers, and fireplace really sets the mood. The food was great and the service was too. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks from the menu, which was helpful because it was our first time there. At the end of our dinner our waiter brought out a complimentary mini red velvet cake, with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. That was really nice!! It was loud and busy but looking at the other guest there smiling and having a good time...the noise became less bothersome. Great energy. I'll go again and will surly suggest Oya to friends and family."

  • "Although I don't go as often as I'd like, it's still one of my favorite afternoon getaways for lunch!"

  • "The decor is unmatched, the food delicious, but we didn't feel we got a good value. Service was outstanding though."

  • "The place to be seen in Washington DC. Within a short walk to the convention center, business or cocktail attire recommended as it is both a foodie haven, and a hot spot. The noise level increases as the night goes on, but we could still have a business conversation without having to shout over the music. What a relief from toehr hot spots in town."

  • "From the decorations to the food to the drinks, Oya definitely stands out as one of the best restaurants I have been to in DC thus far. The ambiance is perfect for a special occasion, a romantic dinner for two or simply for a night out with friends. I will definitely be returning to Oya!!"

  • "Great food and impeccable service. Some of the items (like the nigiri and sushi) were a bit on the pricey side for the estimated value. However, we pair of us used a livingsocial voucher, and that helped offset the cost somewhat."

  • "Everything about this restaurant is top-notch. From the waiter switching out a white napkin to black after looking at my black pants, to all the little details that go into good service. It's all here. The food is delicious. You will really enjoy this restaurant."

  • "Good food, great ambiance, though it is a bit loud while at dinner. Food quality was good overall with attentive service. Oya never disappoints as an all around good experience."

  • "Each time I visit this restaurant I am impressed with my food selections. I'm making my wat through the menu. The Winter Chopped Salad I had for lunch was scrumptious! My friends always have a good time when we visit."

  • "got the lobster dip, and the typhoon roll, both of which were great, ambiance was posh and fun, waiter was attentive without being overbearing, overall a great experience, would definitely go again"

  • "My favorite sushi place in DC. The decor is modern and elegant, the glass fireplace adds a warmth to dining room, but the sushi is the best part. Adored the crab and spinach dip. Have been several times and never had a bad experience."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "I continue to be totally impressed with the food, service and ambience at Oya! When I wanted something which was no longer listed on the menu, they agreed to create it for me anyway! Love, love, love this restaurant!"

  • "I'm sad to say I was disappointed in our dinner on 3.15.14. I've eaten here three times before and have never been blown away, but the funky fun atmosphere has made up for the so-so food. This time, the truffle fries were not truffle-y at all. The mustard mayo was good, but other than that, I can get better french fries almost anywhere. The edamame guacamole was good but didn't come with enough pita to finish it. Had to request more (sort of embarrassing). The only vegetarian entree - the ravioli - was not good. It's true that perhaps I shouldn't order pasta at an asian-fusion restaurant, but still. Undercooked and underseasoned. I could go on. I hope this was a one-time issue and that the food will eventually match the decor."

  • "I had a reservation for my BIRTHDAY and was treated like street trash because my entire party did not arrive within the 15 minute grace period (that was never relayed to me upon making my reservation or during confirmation) of my reservation. I, along with my guests, were talked to very disrespectfully by the host and manager. I felt violated as I was mocked by the host, who noticed my frustration and proceeded to patronize me, and then refused seating by the manager as a result of me becoming upset from the host's mocking. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone that is NOT a snob!!"

  • "The only way this place will survive is from the overflow of diners who prefer Zaytinya. Nice try."
