We were visiting the area from Michigan and the restaurant was highly recommended by a local for having a good blend of familiar and unique options, and a frequently changing menu. The location was easy to find and parking was readily available. The layout and décor were interesting. The store area in front had a nice selection of items to browse. We even bought a couple Christmas presents there. The food definitely lived up to the recommendation. The brunch menu included breakfast thru dinner type selections that all sounded delicious. We stuck with the breakfast selections and were very pleased. My wife, who usually is very hesitant about egg dishes, ate and enjoyed every bite of her scramble. All the dishes we saw served near us looked great and were obviously well received. Wait staff were pleasant, knowledgeable about the various dishes, and attentive without being overbearing. If you are used to fast-food prices, you won't find them here; but the prices were very reasonable for a downtown area, the level of service received, and the quality and selection of foods.

This is a beautiful restaurant. The food is fantastic. I enjoyed the pumpkin spice pancakes and my friend enjoyed a salad that she could not stop raving about. I have also tried the chicken salad sandwich with fries and enjoyed it immensely. This is no doubt a gem! My only concern is the noise level. It's very loud at this place which makes it difficult to enjoy a conversation with friends. Otherwise, lovely place.

  • Great food and fun place; but snobby employees

    Dined on 11/22/2014
I brought a good sized group for a going away party for a friend. Many had never been to OE and so I was excited to show them this fun place. One of my friends (first timer) ordered a sandwich with a two moderations to her order (biscuit instead of bread and no egg). When it came out, the sandwich was half the size of the original sandwich but only 50 cents cheaper. She asked the waitress who was very nice if this was normal and the waitress very quickly and politely said she could bring out another half sandwich, however she did NOT tell her that she would be buying it all over again (she paid for a whole sandwich, but was served two halves and charged for two wholes). We argued the additional charge. When the manager became involved I assumed the issue would be taken care of. (My first mistake...apparently every other place in the world has the universal philosophy that the customer is always right, except for OE). The manager returned and in probably the snobbiest way possible said he was right; we were wrong, but he was going to cover the other "sandwich" which he tried to tell me the "quality of the food met the price." That's a bunch of malarcy; I've owned a restaurant and know the markup value on two slices of bacon, American Cheese and a biscuit...and no ticket with that as its main course should come to $30. I don't care how artisan the latte was! Needless to say, it was less about getting what we wanted (cause we ended up not paying for the added half sandwich) and more about how we were treated as small and inferior by the managerial staff that has me second guessing the next time I bring first time visitors to OE. Had he behaved in a manner which reflected his valuing us as customers my friend probably wouldn't have left the restaraunt in tears and I wouldn't have felt the need to leave such a negative review. It'll be a while before I eat at OE again, regardless of the trendy quaintness of the place.

Menu is interesting, setting is lovely, food is good, but the noise level is BEYOND energetic and well into "requires shouting" at your tablemates. You can't hear yourself think at this restaurant. I only agreed to meet for lunch there because the client likes it, but then the client complained about the noise level.

Very slow service and the food was overpriced. The dinning area was too crowded and noisy. I couldn't hold a conversation without shouting over everyone else. We ordered right away but waited a half hour for our tea (which was great) and caramel latte (overpriced). We waited close to an hour for our food.

I took a friend here for lunch who had just recently moved to the area. She loved everything about it as much as I do. It is a great place to go not only to eat but browsing through the bookstore and the novelty store is awesome too. If I had one thing to say about the noise level is it is very loud and hard to carry on a conversation in the main dining room. I like to sit in the conservatory since it is like being outside, bright and you can carry on a conversation. I had the Kale salad with chicken salad and really enjoyed that. We also started out with the brussel sprouts, kale chips and the chic peas. I have to say the chic peas are my favorite. The club sandwich that my friend ordered looked really good too. Try it!

This was our fourth visit to OE--chosen this time for a birthday celebration. Our guest of honor's birthday balloons were taken from her as we arrived and we were advised by the manager (gentleman with bow tie) that balloons were not allowed in the restaurant. We were told they would be put in a closet until we finished our meal. Enjoyed the sweet potato fries and browsing the gift shop but manager could work on his personal interaction skills with customers. Diplomacy & appearing to care would've gone a long way to improve a tense situation.

We were a table of 4, 3 of our group ordered the Kale Salad with Chicken, 1 of salads were delivered to the table without the chicken. All three salads were missing the pears that were listed in the salad components on the menu. It took the server 8 minutes to greet our table upon our being seated. The server never offered refills of our iced teas or sodas. The chicken on the salads was 'fake' grilled and was rubbery without any taste. The only thing Oxford Exchange has going for it is the ambiance, as service was poor and the food definitely not worth the price. Enjoying the ambiance once was enough, I will not be going back, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I met at Oxford for lunch at 3:00pm on a Sunday, and it was buzzing with people, and truly gives you the sense that you are dining in place reserved for much bigger metropolitan areas like Chicago or New York city. The menu changes enough to keep it fresh, but always has several items that remain which are consistently very good. A club sandwich sounds boring, but this is the best one you will ever have; the grilled sourdough bread and avocado are unique to this rendition, and the portion is huge. Add in the sweet potato fries and you have a truly have an outstanding combination not to be missed.

Being a downtown local, I've had the opportunity to enjoy the OE atmosphere many a time. Regardless of whether you're enjoying a sit down lunch, or ordering a coffee to go, the ambiance of Oxford Exchange has always been a reason I return. Anytime you step in the door, you must peruse the stock of their shop and bookstore before you leave. On this particular visit, I brought my Mom here for the first time. Our four O'clock reservation seated us for afternoon tea, which was an enriching treat for us both. We enjoyed a quiet atmosphere and an eclectically tasty spread of finger sandwiches and sweets for us both. Quite impressed with their selection of teas, we each decided of differing rooibos blends, each pleasing in their own way.

While the atmosphere and decor at OE are wonderful, the quality of food and service at afternoon tea leave something to be desired. Our server brought out the tiers of food for high tea before the tea had even arrived. She didn't tell us what treats were on the plates either. I had to call her back to the table to do so. The food was pretty ordinary (almond butter and pear, ham and cheese, brownie, etc) and portions very small for $22 pp. then I asked for more tea and was told they were no longer serving. The waitress then came back and said they could make me more tea, but she didnt bother to ask anyone else in my party if they wanted more too. The tea was the best part. If the food were better, I could overlook the bad service.
