Diner Reviews
  • "We had excellent service and very good food. Having just returned from Spain I can honestly say the spanish food was better here"

  • "came to ox & angela on a saturday night for the first time, definitely not the last! our waitress kindly explained to us the best way to go about ordering our dinner and even recommended a couple of cocktails for us to try. I had one of the sours where my boyfriend had one of the old fashions. both fantastic! dinner was delicious as well, and all came out very promptly, couldn't believe how fast the food was. all in all, a fantastic experience, will definitely be back again."

  • "Great food, service, cocktails. Only issues were parking (blocks away) and it is noisy."

  • "An incredible culinary experience. My mother in law is from Spain and dining here is like dining in her kitchen. Thank you!"

  • "The special sampling was fabulous. Very food mix of foods. The apple salad was not as good as it usually is--less flavour in the dressing. The pork/chicken meatballs are not as good as the lamb meatballs you used to serve. Desserts were food and I like that they aren't too much. Overall, this restaurant is still a favourite of ours."

  • "The guy that met us at the door was very rude, not a good start. Our server was terrific. We have been here before many times and the food is usually amazing. Not this time though, everything was very bland almost tasteless. Have to assume there is a new chef or just an off night for the kitchen. We will likely go back but not until after we try some of the other spots in the neighbourhood. Hopefully the chef can get it together and bring the food back to the high level it used to be."

  • "After living in Spain for several years we were very pleased to find Oxe & Angela. This a a great place to enjoy Spanish wine and real Tapas!"

  • "I have been for dinner and loved it, and was impressed by their affordable brunch. The atmosphere was lively and chipper, and prices very affordable. We each had something different, and I think the eggs benedict with kale and truffled mushrooms ($12) was the best. The egg bake with tomatoes ($12) was also delicious! Luckily our group was not afraid of sharing so we each got to taste four different dishes. Chocolate chip pancakes with dulce de leche ($9) was also good if you're in for something sweet. Overall we were very impressed with the creative yet approachable menu, and its reasonable prices. Will be back!"

  • "This really is the best brunch in town. I always get the brunch table, it's like a breakfast tapas table. I am a little sad that I have to order a whole order of pancakes for the end since the pancakes are no longer included but I do it anyways because they are incredible. If you have a chance to come, make a reservation as they seem to fill up fast these days. They are also renown for their cocktails and make an excellent Bloody Mary!"

  • "We had a great time - started off with great wine and great company. As we were a larger group we had the Spanish Table and it was just excellent, along with the friendly service. We'll be back. Highly recommend the dessert too."

  • "Took a friend for her birthday - did not know that brunch was the only thing available. I chose this restaurant because of rave reviews of their tapas - we didn't get to try any. Seated promptly, we ordered the "menu". Out of 5 items, we really enjoyed 2. Now at least we know what we would order if we go back for another weekend lunch (the Benedict & the stuffed dates). Still have to get there during an evening so I can see if their tapas are as good as reported. Blood orange mimosas were yummy. Latte very good as well. The service was the best part of the event. Very attentive, without being cloying. FYI - there is parking in back. Being unfamiliar with the location, we parked on the street, which had two hour restricted timing."

  • "I spent two months in Spain and the ox and Angela really do a great job at showing you around Spain with an outstanding variety of tapas. I strongly recommend the the big taste! Wonderful atmosphere with that Casual but dressy feel, all in all I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and wine recommendation!"

  • "The restaurant is energetic but above all the food is outstanding. The simplest dishes taste wonderful and you wish could work your way through the whole menu."

  • "We love Ox and Angela. It's our go to restaurant for a special night out. The food in fabulous. They are excellent about managing food sensitivities and allergies (we are gluten-free and dairy-free diners). The atmosphere is lively and warm. The service is excellent - ask for Dale!"

  • "Excellent everything! The atmosphere, energy, service, food...all so good. We had an outstanding brunch over a nice bottle of white wine and you made our day - so, thanks!"

  • "You MUST try the vegetarian eggs benedict, with truffle infused mushrooms and kale. It was the most amazing thing I've ever had!!"

  • "We try and make it here once a month, the experience gets better every time. The staff are wonderful and extremely accommodating. Highly recommend the Ox and Angela restaurant."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "We felt very comfortable there food was prompt and we really liked the atmosphere, food wasn't great. Duck and steak were chewy, meatballs were ok, asparagus was by far the best dish."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "We were incredibly impressed with this restaurant. The vegetatian options are surprisingly amazing - the esparagus, potatoes as well as the lamb sausages were amazing!"
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "Came here for a friend's champagne birthday. Our waitress (sadly forgot her name) provided outstanding service by being patient with our large group and being very thoughtful with wine selections. Food is high quality and well put together for a wide variety of delicious flavors. The only somehow disappointing thing was the noise level that became quite raucous throughout the night. Last time I came and sat on the bar side I don't remember it being this rowdy... Made it difficult to carry conversations."

  • "Be open to a new, and delightful dining experience. Let your tastebuds go wild for the Spanish Table. By far the best choice, when dining here. A bottle of wine and a table for two or four its the perfect night out."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "I went here a while ago and I had the champignones and it was so good that the second time I went I just had to have it again, I love mushrooms and I swear it's my versatile ingredient weakness. I'm looking forward to trying something new next time though. Also I love the CHURROS! One of the only places in calgary I know that actually sell good quality ones :)"

  • "Andrew and Chad made us and our out-of-town guest welcome. Service was attentive, not intrusive and the food + wine recommendations were appreciated and enjoyed."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "2 choices of eggs benny. 1 = egg, tomato & ham, 2 = egg, kale & mushrooms. I am allergic to tomatoes, so I ask for the ham benny without tomato off and kale on. Well you would have thought that the world blew up! The waitress tells me that there is no way the kitchen would trade the tomato with kale - WHAT?! THE KITCHEN - what kind of prima donna's do you have flipping food on your grill! Waitress suggests just ask for no tomatoes, I say with kale on the side & she said no they (THE KITCHEN) would not let her do that. I ordered something else & ask she report this to the manager. Manager comes over, says instead he ordered me the mushroom benny and substituted mushrooms for ham - seriously! What is the difference? Got a refund."

  • "Really enjoyed the dinner, atmosphere and evening!"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We arrived on a cold spring evening by foot and were given a nice warm table by the kitchen. Unfortunately, a problem with the heating system keep the air conditioning turning on and blasting us. Staff were quick to respond but it was uncomfortable. Service was excellent and the food as follows: Delicias - excellent, Aceitunas - OK, nothing special. Jamon ($27) - nice but biggest rip off feeling we have experienced in along time. Pan Asado sin Gulten - good, Calabacines - Excellent, Coliflor Asada - good (if you like garlic, really good), Pato Asado - I loved it but my husband thought it was tough. We both had wine and a lovely "date night", other than the overpriced ham. (Jamon)"

  • "We have been to Ox and Angela several times and always enjoy the food and ambience. The brunch special is a delightful treat with a variety of flavors for all to love. We went with friends from TO and they also were pleasantly surprised by the Tapas."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "My first time and I took two girlfriends who didn't really know each other. Tapas are a great way to dine - sharing food leads to sharing tastes and reactions which leads to sharing stories. Just enough noise to make the place feel alive - even on the restaurant side. The bar side was buzzing. Loved the cheese dipped in honey, the olives and the stuffed dates were divine. We ate ALL the Merguez sausages, the asparagus, the Kale salad and the chicken. Kudos to the chefs for an enlightened menu, a lot of variety and just enough intrigue. I'll go back for sure!"

  • "We came for a special occasion. I like how we got a corner booth! The food was great, we got the asst dishes, when the different cooks andservers brought us the dishes, I was unclear what we were receiving, dropping if off and spoke to quickly. When it's items I've never had before I'd like it explained a little better. Over all great time!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We had a delicious dinner here. The food was very good, and the service could not be faulted. My only complaints were how noisy it was and the fact that the restaurant is too small - I guess I; will just have to hope that one day it will be possible to move to a bigger place for this very successful restaurant."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "The food was outstanding, and our server was wonderful. Our table wasn't ready for our reservation, which I found odd, but it was only an extra ten minutes of a wait. All in all, a great time out for the three of us, on a lovely birthday."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "This retaurant is popular and I'd heard good reviews. Although the energy and service were good the food was not. It wasn't bad but I won't be going back for more. Definately disappointing."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Our first time to this establishment. We choose this restaurant as part of Big Taste Calgary and the tapas menu. Each of the seven tapas were described in detail upon arrival at the table although with the noise level we probably heard half of what was said. Very busy noisy Thursday evening. The zucchini salad was excellent along with the potato tapas. The tables/seating was quite tight and took away from the intimacy. Part of the vibrant atmosphere."

  • "Service was super good and the food came amazingly fast. Not sure if its because of the big taste event going on that they were well prepared. We had the Big Taste Menu that night. The food was good. My only complaint is the meat on the 2nd set of dishes that came out was kind of cold but besides that I probably go back to hang out with friends."

  • "All the food was outstanding and super flavourful. Service was great and the place had a great atmosphere. Can't wait to come back."
