The major surprise was that I had never eaten here before and was found solely on Open Table and it fit the criteria; Italian, availability and close to where we were. This turned into a great experience. The service was good - there were only a few patrons in at the time. The food was fantastic. I even posted on Facebook that I had consumed the best pizza i ever had in life. Everything is farm to table - and prepared from scratch. It is a long way from where I live.... but I will be back!

Limited street parking was full. Non-valet option - garage - too few spots; people were giving up and backing out as we were trying to find a spot. I thought there was going to be a wreck in the garage. Gave up and searched for valet and finally found him, a block away from restaurant. They had our reservation and seated us promptly. Had two different wines by the glass, both good. Tables for two were too close together in my opinion. I don't enjoy hearing the conversations of people I don't know. Husband ordered veal special which had tough spots. Never heard of veal being tough. I ordered the pizza special which I thought was marginal. My husband ate a slice, grimaced, and said it was the worst pizza he'd ever had.

  • Delicious food. Tiny portion.

The pasta entree was absolutely delicious, but that the chef felt that portion was appropriate for a human, let alone one paying $22, is laughable bordering on insulting. Our waitress was mediocre as our wine came out less than a minute before our food. The tap cab/Grenache blend is nice, and the pizza my mom ordered was good. Bottom line: never should anyone pay $22 for an entree and be forced to go eat somewhere else AFTER dinner. I'd highly recommend Matchbox's crab cake/scallop/mini burger appetizer as your post-Ovvio meal. If Matchbox/Lost Dog pizza wasn't so good, I'd consider this place for HH 1/2 price pizza/wine. But it is, so I won't.

Great find and worth a trip from the city and amazing for locals. They do all their own cheese and will soon be doing their own salamis. Talked to one of the owners a few times and its obvious everything is so fresh and they use local farmers for everything I ate. Every dish is different and delicious. Their bruchetta is the best I have ever had anywhere and the olives and sorbettos are amazing. Mussel broth is drinkable and nothing is bad. Staff is friendly and I have been back about 10 times in two weeks! has a 60 year old balsamic! If you are looking for great food, come here. If you specifically want Italian- skip Fiola's and other Italian downtown. its right of the metro if you dont want to worry about drinking and driving)

Simply put, Ovvio Osteria is an exceptionally fine restaurant. Four friends ate there Saturday night: each plate from appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts, returned to the kitchen looking dishwasher clean. No one left a trace of food or sauce uneaten. Our server was intelligent, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the restaurant and its food. The very professional staff worked flawlessly for such a new venue. The wine list is very good as are house cocktails. Everything is made in-house with superb ingredients: even the olive oil and balsamic are transporting. They do everything right. Go, go, go.

Excellent food. The focaccia was the best in the area. I wish some of the dishes had been simpler. The trend of putting unusual flavors together can be delicious but occasionally leads to overly fussy dishes.

I liked the design and reuse of materials. The food is good but our group felt that the lunch prices were high. Dessert service also took longer than expected and we had to follow up with the server for the check. Plan to go back for happy hour but don't think we will have lunch there regularly.

My wife and I tried this place on a whim for my birthday. They just opened about 3 weeks ago, it was the last week in August and the restaurant was not crowded for dinner on a weeknight. We were incredibly impressed with the quality of the food, the ambience and the service. This is going to be a very popular place and is a great addition to the neighborhood. Being fans of Pupatella, 2 Amys and Piola, we used to think that the best pizza in the Vienna area was at Whole Foods. When Matchbox opened things improved a bit, but Ovvio makes pizza every bit as subtle, ethereal and flavorful as the best dishes at Pupatella, all in an upscale but relaxed setting. Highly recommended!

The food is good, but overpriced. Service was really slow, but I will give them a chance since they recently open and staff is not well trained yet. My husband ordered a soup, which arrived a little bit late and too close with our meals and they did not give him a spoon... The pasta was just Ok and the sauce was not as creamy and too liquid for my taste. They did not have some of the beers on tap as they said on the menu neither they have the wine I ordered...

I ordered the NY Strip which was flavorless and dry, we tried to order from the specials but at 8:00pm they were out of EVERYTHING even though the GM had just told us they weren’t that busy. I must say the pork cheeks my dad ordered were great and I WOULD recommend getting them. Menu overall is pretty small though so I would like to see a few more options. Will try again

The food was great. The white bean bruschetta appetizer was excellent, as was the hazelnut gelato. Wine pours are very generous, and the wine selection is very good. My only negative comment is that the prices are definitely on the high side.

  • Excellent new Italian restaurant

    Dined on 8/17/2013
This is a relatively new restaurant and we arrived somewhat early so it was not crowded. It picked up a bit later and the noise level was still fine. The food was prepared very well but it seemed as if some of the flavor was slightly muted. For instance, the Margherita pizza crust was perfect but the sauce and basil flavors didn't come though as clearly as I would have expected. However, the sauce and basil certainly tasted fresh, so it was staleness factor. The mussels appetizer was one of the best we've had. The dessert was excellent. We split a Tiramisu sundae. The wine suggestions were perfect. Great dining experience.

This restaurant was just opened this past week and we dined there twice . First b/c we didn't know it was so new and second b/c it was so awesome that we are "worried" that when people find out about it we'll never get a table again. The restaurant is beautiful, The tables and chairs comfortable and the food is home made, including the cheese . They had none of the typical new restaurant issues. The staff was friendly and worked as well together as a team as if they had been together for years. The food came out impeccably made and in a timely but not too fast manner. This restaurant gives credence to doing a few dishes very well rather than an rambling drawn out inventory of all foods from a given country.

Ovvio is a nice, open place in a new little area across Lee Hwy from the Target. Although the staff are still learning the ropes, they were doing great with greetings and service. The specials were local/fresh and I tried both-Heirloom Salad and Veal Piccata. Although refreshing, the salad was overpriced for what it was - a small portion with balsamic around it for $12. The Veal was good. My husband tried the steak which was underseasoned but cooked perfectly- sides were great. We tried the wine on tap - interesting but we switched for #2 - good variety of wine and beer. Overall I would try it again, not with kids - a little overpriced but that is in support of using local farms and markets.

For appetizers we had the meatballs and the tomato salad. The meatballs were bite sized, a little on the coarse side with a very tasty sauce. Good stuff. The tomato salad was very good too. They pride themselves on using fresh local ingredients and it was obvious in the salad. The Spaghetti Alla Chitarri was some of the best pasta I have ever had. What seemed like house made pasta with a sauce that clung to the pasta. Its not the type of sauce that's piled on top. The sauce is stirred into the pasta with no visible chunks of tomato. Don't get me wrong its really tasty. No Parmesan needed here. The Olive Oil Poached Chicken was exceptionally moist with good flavor. Not an easy thing to do with a chicken breast.

My friend and I had a great, light meal at Ovvio. The menu is fresh and interesting; ambiance is bistro-like and our server (who I think was helping out with training the rest of the staff) was very knowledgable (both for food and wine) and attentive. Ovvio is a great new find and option in the "revitilizing" area of Dunn Loring and Merrifled. Great to have a nice, fun, casual option with great, fresh food!
