Diner Reviews
  • "Went here before a show at the Pantages and it was great. I loved the bourbon salmon dish! Very moist and flavorful. The atmosphere is really fun too-nice chairs and curtains everywhere to make it very comfy."

  • "Four of us dined for the first time at Over the Moon a Cafe on a busy Friday night before a concert in the theater district. Despite the fact that ours was one of the last parties to be seated on a night when 90% of the restaurant's guests had the same curtain time, service was superb and cheerful and we were out with time to spare. Food was very good and the ambiance was warm, ecclectic and inviting. Anxious to return. "

  • "Such a romantic hideaway! Food is fresh, creative, fand ull of wonderful flavors! Will definitely add this to my list of Tacoma gems!"

  • "We've been about a 1/2 dozen times for dinner and and everything has been good to excellent. Had their take on shepard's pie using short ribs last night and it was terrific. My wife had the prawns in a cream sauce and she could stop raving about the sauce."

  • "I have lived in the area for six months and have been exploring local restaurants. This place stole my heart. The food is consistently the best food I have ever had; high quality and full of flavor. The ambience is peaceful and charming. The staff is friendly with fun personalities and the owner has a true passion for what she does. I want to point out that I travelled a lot prior to moving here and found several really good places throughout the country. I would rank OTMC above them all."

  • "Food is always superior and the service is outstanding. Clearly a favorite of ours."

  • "I have had wonderful dinners here on two different occasions - salmon and chicken. Two people at our table had the Shepard's Pie which was not a hit. Service was slow - there seemed to be only one waitress on a Saturday night. Desserts, salad, & bread and wine where great. Nice ambiance."

  • "We all enjoyed our dinners very much (group of four). The waitress was very good at her job, but I think she may have been alone. The crab bisque was superb."

  • "I picked this restaurant based on other reviews I read online to surprise my wife and thankfully we were not disappointed. Friendly staff welcomed us upon our arrival. The main course was delicious (duck and salmon) and reasonably priced. We splurged for dessert (cinnamon roll & apple crisp) and while they were good, they weren't worth their cost. Overall I'd recommend this little secret neighborhood restaurant."

  • "I am usually not one for leaving reviews, however my experience at this restraunt deserves one as I myself am in the food industry. Upon arriving the wait staff was very pleasant and directed us to our table. The menu is small, but has a lot of variety for those that are picky eaters. I had the Australian lamb steak and let me tell you that it was cooked just how I ordered it. The portions were a decent size for the cost of the items and my wife even had leftovers. I will definitely be returning to this gem!"

  • "Had a great meal at Over the Moon...will definitely add this to my growing list of Go To places in T-Town. It's small, maybe a dozen tables, so definitely make a reservation, especially for weekend dinners."

  • "We arrived on time for our reservation and stood in the entry way for almost 10 minutes while the waitress /hostess went up and down the stairs to "check on something." We were then seated right in front of the door, so we were able to enjoy the blasts of freezing air every time the door opened and shut. We couldn't enjoy much private conversation as every patron entering the restaurant was told to "wait here" right next to our table. The food was just ok. The salmon was over cooked and the chicken ragu was one note, one texture. Everything was over salted. We won't go back."

  • "I took my wife here for our anniversary and I must say I was quite impressed. They gave us a secluded dining location to increase the intimacy of the evening. The food was amazing (duck, lamb, asian pear salad, crab bisque) and we both had an amzing time. The waitresses were pleasant and brought us whatever we needed. The food is expensive but it is amazing nonetheless. We could only go there once in a blue moon (no pun intended) but they exceeded my every expectation. Thanks OTMC for a fantastic evening!"

  • "My wife and I love Over The Moon. When we want to do something special and have the best steak in town; this is our favorite place. Our choice item is the flat iron steak which comes with a delicious red wine based sauce, which makes the steak extra tender. We also have had the Grass Fed New York Steak which is not quite as tender but full of unique flavor. The duck is also good but we are steak people! We usually get asparagus and mashed potatoes for sides and are always pleased by the generous portion. They do not skimp like many 5 star restaurants. Afterwards we like to catch some music and an after dinner coffee or beer at the B# Cafe. It is right around the corner and often features live Jazz and acoustic music."

  • "Food was good, atmosphere as well but prices were not as stated in the reviews. Minimum price for an entree, glass of wine, taxes and tip is 35.00. Average price is a bit more than 40.00."

  • "We look forward to dining at Over the Moon. Great food, the Shepherd's pie was wonderful and the banana cream pie (without the pie) was a perfect ending. Made for a memorable anniversary dinner for us. We routinely recommend it when people ask us for a nice place for lunch or dinner."

  • "I highly recommend Over the Moon Café for a date night. It is a small, local, family owned restaurant in the Tacoma downtown area. It's especially great for a meal before attending a Broadway Center event because it's located just down the street from Pantages, Theatre on the Square and Rialto. You can even stop by after the show for drinks and appetizers. Reservations would assure you of seating."

  • "In Opera Alley (which is faintly reminiscent of the magical alley in Harry Potter) the restaurant has an intriguing, magical ambience, with eclectic decor, and an intimate aura. Then there is the food - YUMMY! Start off with the amazing asiago cheese bread. I had the spinach and pear salad - which was fresh and delicious. The entrees all sounded wonderful - I had the salmon - which was cooked perfectly with lovely sauce on it, and was served with flavorful mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables. My husband had the duck breast - which he raved on about. We were too full for dessert - but we had a little scoop of the vanilla/bourbon ice cream with carmel drizzled over it. It was okay, but presentation was lovely with a cut rose on each plate."

  • "The service has been fantastic every time we've dined here! The menu provides wonderful seasonal plates as well as the regular dishes, which are also fabulous. Great crab cake appetizer and delicious bread! Definitely need to make reservation and make sure you know the direction to get there. Although we didn't have difficulty parking, it could be tricky, considering the location."

  • "My wife and I went here for our Valentine's date and were blown away by the amazing service, intricately balanced flavors, and gorgeous presentation. We did a 4 course dinner, and just split everything, along with a bottle of wine. We went out on a limb and chose the duck for our entree and...incredible! We both had never been impressed with duck before and were hesitant to select it as our main course, but it was to die for. The apple crisp was incredible as well. Our experience left us wanting to try EVERYTHING on the menu. We will definitely be back! If your looking for a nice quaint date spot in Tacoma, with amazing food, and that won't break the bank, this is it!"
