Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious dinner. Steaks were perfectly cooked with subtle mushroom sauce. Salad was perfect and not too much or too many flavors; lightly dressed. Service was thoughtful and efficient. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Simple wine list with enough selections; well priced. Dinner was very reasonable. Highly recommend"

  • "Otm has never failed. I do wish they would get a few new standard entrees (especially seafood) on the menu because that would give us more excuses to visit this wonderful place! But don't let that distract from this gem of an establishment."

  • "Small and cozy feel with food choices and combinations that set it apart from most competitors. Reasonable prices for quality."

  • "I use to live in tacoma and go there on special occasions I have been living in las vegas now for the last 5 years and there is no place like over the moon cafe so every year I visit I come by for lunch or dinner"

  • "The ambiance is just right for a table of 2-4 to enjoy meaningful time gathering together. You can take your time or meet just before going to the Grand Cinema (grandcinema.com). The price would be too much for me to go more than once or twice a year, though."

  • "We drive up to Tacoma from Portland just to eat at Over the Moon. The plan to have the mushroom mac and cheese was thwarted by the special dungeness crab mac and cheese and it was fabulous, as was my husbands Moon of Montana (roast beef) and Monte Cristo, which was baked, not fried, giving it a fresher taste. Next time lunch will be on Friday so we can have the crab bisque (since dinner is harder for a day trip), which is among the best things I have ever tasted."

  • "A small, intimate restaurant tucked into a quiet side street in the theater district. The food was plentiful, good quality, and well-prepared. It's unusual to visit a reviewed restaurant and not be disappointed! We enjoyed the meal and the quiet ambience where we could actually enjoy talking to one another!"

  • "This is the best kept secrete in Tacoma. The food is amazing and timely. The service outstanding. The waitress doesn't write anything down which makes you feel listened to and cared about. She was knowledgeable about the food and her suggestions were spot on. The atmosphere is over the moon classy. It is very quiet and warm. I do and will continue to recommend this place only to the people I love because if word gets out how great this place is there will be a huge waiting list. Lol."

  • "We had lunch at this wonderful, little cafe while in town for a wedding. It is on a fun, funky little block in Tacoma. From the minute we walked in we loved the atmosphere;Old brick walls, rich colors, comfy chairs, very romantic and cozy. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious; flavorful and fresh. We would now like to go back and try the dinner menu. Highly recommended."

  • "This place never ceases to amaze me. I almost hating writing a review this good because I don't want it to become over-packed like most great places. Service is great and the food is definitely top-notched, great wine selection and the price is good too. Still my number one place in Tacoma."

  • "One of my favorite places. The food is so good, I want to go back tonight. The server went out of way to make sure we were satisfied."

  • "We have had better food in past years. It was disappointing but had been warned from neighbors that dinners were no longer that good for the price but that lunches were the better bet. The salad dressing on my pear spinach salad was bitter and did not seem appropriate for a "summer refreshing" salad. My husband had the Caesar. The dressing was way over the amount needed. It was soupy. The veggies on my entree were raw or dried. It was a special occasion but I think with all the other local fairs we can find something less expensive and worth our time."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary. I wanted to find someplace we had never been, more of an event than just dinner. Over the Moon Café delivered. Our waitress was smart and cheerful and understood just how much to assist us. She knew the menu, and the wine. She knew just how to make us feel it was a special occasion that the restaurant was happy to be a part of. (That's huge) The Food was spectacular, the duck breast was delicious they even split the salad course on two plates for us to share. I ordered the Duck, my wife ordered the chicken, the chef plated half of each dish on each of our plates because we wanted to share. The whole experience was wonderful. If I had any criticism, the chicken was a little dry."

  • "Amazing, delicious cuisine, but unfortunately we were distracted by the steady noise of an old fan. I've been here at least 3 times before, don't recall the loud, obnoxious droning background noise of the fan. It was so disruptive that it was hard to carry on a conversation and my friend developed a bad headache from it. There were a few quiet moments, but the server said that was because they weren't cooking, didn't need the fan on. The building is so old that the fan is noisy. I sure wish they could resolve that problem, as it had been my recommendation that we go there. Now I'm not so sure if I'll return."

  • "What a great find in Tacoma. We went for my husband's birthday and we will definitely go back. The waitress is the owner's daughter and she is so very friendly and fun and tried so hard to make everything perfect. The restaurant was full and yet she took time with everyone. She is amazing! My husband had the pork chop and it was great and I had the salmon which was also good. The strawberry shortcake was wonderful and I had the gluten free three berry dessert that was almost like a cheesecake and it was fantastic. The restaurant is in a cute little alley down the street from the Pantages Theater so it would be a great before theater treat. There also seemed to be a large "local" crowd as well. Overall it was a wonderful experience!"

  • "Over the Moon Cafe is such a great little place in Tacoma that most people would never find. Opera Alley is such an off the beaten track place that it is very difficult to even find Over the Moon---but it is well worth the effort. The Moon over Montana sandwich on the lunch menu is my favorite. It is a very tasty sandwich on Dave's Killer Bread with a bit of a spicy taste to it. The hostess is wonderful...you have to feel sorry for someone who makes tens of thousands of trips up the stairs from the kitchen. We just love going there."

  • "I really liked the ambiance and the service was excellent but I would have liked more than one dinner option that was vegan friendly. It was pretty good but they definitely specialize in meat-based entrees. The spinach salad was great. "

  • "My friend and I went to Over the Moon Café for lunch before a show at the Pantages Theater. I found this restaurant online and the reviews were good. It is a very short walk from the theater. The food was delicious, healthy and well presented. There was a decent wine list also. The atmosphere is cozy and can be intimate if you go with your sweetie. The service was outstanding. This is a little gem in downtown Tacoma that I will revisit!"

  • "The food was not good. I had the spinach salad and it was like the chef just dumped a bag of spinach on my plate and a hard boiled egg with a tiny bit of hard bacon. There was not enough dressing for the salad either. The salad did help me stay on my diet though!"
