Diner Reviews
  • "It use to have Alacart now it is all buffet. I don't eat that much so much so it was too expensive for what I wanted."

  • "I was fine before a Wolftrap show. We enjoyed it more when they had a menu, but there is plenty of good food in the buffet. Arrive 90 minutes before a show and avoid the traffic and get a better parking space and not worry about being late."

  • "Outstanding the people and food was fit for a king. I can't wait to do it again!!!"

  • "Overall a great experience. Nice selection of meats, veggies, desserts and drinks. My only hiccup was the salmon with butter cream sauce being too salty and would have been better without the sauce."

  • "Always a pleasure to dine at Ovations. Good food and variety, love the outdoor atmosphere and of course the concerts!"

  • "My brother's birthday was on the night we can to Ovations and saw Lionel Richie. It was a great way to celebrate his day and we had such beautiful weather. The food was outstanding and so was the service. We also liked that there are so many tables and that is all you sell for the nigh. We did not feel rushed and really enjoyed the evening."

  • "My date and I thought the food was great. The buffet was well laid out and the food was fresh. I was pleasantly surprised after reading some of the other reviews. The macaroni and cheese and fried chicken were very good. Tasted a lot like Mom's. The only complaint we had was that the collard greens, which were delicious, could have been cut into smaller pieces."

  • "We had 7PM reservations, arrived early and were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. We thought the wine prices ($15 a glass) were a little high for the venue. Two buffet lines were open when we arrived and they were consolidated down to one about half way through our visit. Most offerings were ‘picked over’ and did not look appetizing; serving dishes were more empty than full. What little food we had (e.g. bits of haddock) was good. When I went for dessert I found the banana pudding bowl empty and was told there was no more. Overall disappointing given the $32 admission charge."

  • "Had heard much about Ovations but frankly it was not as I anticipated at all. the buffet while a fair number of choices were ok, and food wasn't bad by any sense just not great, some passing as good. enjoyed the she crab soup immensely and the peach ginger chilled soup. my companion seemed to have enjoyed the food more than I did. it was much more casual then I expected and chaotic, noisy."

  • "With a wonderful view of the forest and 100 feet away from wolf trap Ovations has a great buffet for a pre show meal! Would always recommend Ovations before the show!"

  • "A Wolftrap Associate Member for 15+ years who always goes to Ovations before performance because of convenience. Food was really, really good this time!"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "The food was OK but not great by any standards. Not worth the $32 per person buffet. Wait staff appear to be understaffed."

  • "We have eaten at Ovations a number of times over the past few years and have been quite satisfied with the buffet and ala carte selections. We went for the 1st time this year before the NSO - 2001 Space Odyssey concert and were very disappointed in the food quality and selection. They no longer offer an ala carte menu, and the buffet selections were reduced. The pans for the fish entree were empty and the ones for the glazed chicken just had a few pieces remaining (which were no longer glazed). I did notice that the pans were refilled while I was having my dessert, though. The only side green vegetable was green beans. Also, there was only 1 dessert table, which was tucked into the back right corner. This meal was definitely not worth $32."

  • "Great place to grab dinner before a performance, however, the food is underwhelming. Beef was beyond rare and haddock looked like it had been swimming around for a few days. We ordered a bottle of blush wine - I was thinking rose, but instead was served white zinfandel. Staff was friendly, but very busy. Best part was the dessert - not worth the price."

  • "$35 per person for steam table buffet. So, my wife and I and 3 children for dinner; a middling at best buffet and (with a bottle of wine, tax and tip) a bill over $200. Ouch. I'll never make that mistake again."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Have eaten there many times. This time was not very good. Service was mediocre; food selection less than previous times. Was disappointed in the overall experience."

  • "Food is okay, servers are extremely young and inexperienced. Prime rib was still purple even after asking for it to be fried to well done at the serving station. Logistics of buffet are not well planned out (causes everyone to stand in a single line for all the main dishes instead of having stations). Dessert was minimal - cupcakes, key lime pie was really key lime bars, ice cream is one small scoop in a tiny dish. Dessert plates are tiny. Best part about eating here is getting such a good parking spot since you arrive earlier than usual."

  • "Because they did not have a large number of reservations, they only opened one side of the buffet tables. This put enormous pressure on the side that was open, and the lines were long. They ran out of some items and did not refill them, including the fruit cobbler and the soup. They left some items out until they were hard, dry, and inedible, including some salads, the shrimp, and the strawberry shortcake. When I told them, they replaced the shrimp, and it was much better, which makes me wonder how they could have left the old shrimp out in the first place. Very disappointing."

  • "Very poorly executed. It was a light crowd, so it seemed like the lines should be short and food in good supply. Seems they anticipated this and were understaffed, poorly set up, and had long lines at the serving table. The young staff, while friendly, seemed to need some help. The carver seemed to struggle cutting the lamb. The serving dish with the chicken and pasta was empty. When I went back again, same thing. They were out of the cherry cobbler by the time we were ready for dessert. To top things off, when we ordered regular coffee, the server just brought us decaf and said they were out of regular. That was another $8 down the drain. Food was ok, but nothing really memorable. Very poor experience for the price paid."

  • "My husband and I ate here on a Thursday night before a show. We're were late due to traffic. They happily set us at a great table. Server was prompt taking our drink orders. This was a buffet and at this time food was picked over and not as good as I would have assumed for the price. Next time will do the snack bar or picnic option."

  • "The food was adequate at best and ran out of several items towards the end of the second seating. Our waiter did not offer the option of ordering a single entrée and brought the wrong beer. Thirty two dollars was way over priced for the quality of the food and for someone who doesn't want a lot to eat not having the option of ordering a single entrée is unacceptable. I will not eat here again."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "This is a wonderful venue, especially in perfect weather. The food buffet has something for everyone, but the entrees were all overcooked. At $35/person, plus drinks plus tip, you are paying for convenience. Choose something off-site if you have time."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Cafeteria food. Sad to see the decline of Wolf Trap's only option."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "First of all, I didn't check any box in Q 2 because I didn't think any applied. I was most disappointed in the Ovation food experience last Thursday night and the food was not up to what I've had in the past and was definitely not worth the $32: The beef was so raw, it almost galloped around the room; the lamb was fatty looking and overcooked; the vegetable offerings were uninteresting and looked like they'd come out of a can and the salads were like something you could get at McD's. The berry cobbler dessert was pretty good."

  • "I've never been a huge fan of buffets, but Ovations food was super fresh, flavorful and delightful. I was pleasantly surprised and would go back the next time.I see a concert at Wolf Trap."

  • "We've eaten here before (a couple of years ago)--it's a great place to eat before seeing a summer concert at Wolf Trap. It's buffet style and the food is very good and plentiful--good selection of meat, fish, starches, veggies and yummy desserts! But it is most definitely a splurge--it costs $32.00/adult and $15.00/child. And of course drinks are extra and that adds to the bill! But if you're looking for a nice convenient place to eat before seeing a summer show at Wolf Trap--it's worth the splurge once in a while!"

  • "It's the way things work at a concert - just like paying $10 for a $2 beer, you're paying $32 for a $10 meal. The selection wasn't that great, and with the exception of one or two items, the food was either cooked dry or just mush. Wouldn't recommend it."

  • "Very excellent buffet dinner before the concert. Well paced and good service from the table attendant."

  • "The Buffet was very good. The Highlights for me were the Deviled Eggs, the Watermelon and Feta Salad, and the Crab Soup, which was Excellent with lots of Crab. I was very happy that all 4 parts of the Chicken were provided, not just the Breasts. I had a nice Thigh. I was disappointed that the Mashed Potato and Potato Salad, while delicious, contained Potato Skin, which I don't like, and can't eat for Health reasons, and had to remove it before eating. I like to have Fruit for Dessert, and one Option was a mixture of 4 kinds of Berries. I don't know if they close at showtime, but someone came back with another loaded plate about 30 minutes before show time. It would have taken me an hour to eat all that, but I'm a slow eater."

  • "Set at Wolf Trap, it is the finest dining option available there. Set on an outdoor patio, the view is breathtaking. The food is very good, but not outstanding. The only option the last two years is the buffet which offers a wide variety of foods, all very well prepared."
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "It is a shame that Ovations did away with their ala carte menu and only offer a buffet. It is very difficult to serve excellent food at a buffet, and for the diner it is very difficult to get value without feeling ill from over eating. The food was "fine" but a picnic would have been much nicer and I wouldn't return to Ovations. They totally overcharge, especially for any alcoholic beverages. $14 for a glass of wine is outrageous. It is what it is. I've been to Ovations on many occasions over the years and I am fairly certain that this was my last time."

  • "Ovations is a wonderful way to dine prior to a concert at Wolf Trap. You only have to park once and don't have to rush. The buffet is better than any buffet I have ever experienced - everything was fresh and wonderfully presented. Very relaxed and scenic dining - I highly recommenced!"
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Great place for relaxing meal before a show. Many choices on the buffet."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "The service is good but the food is sub-par. The list of food on the buffet menu is impressive but the buffet is disappointing and sparse. Many entrees were cold or luke warm. This restaurant is a good idea but not worth the money."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Ovations is in a beautiful setting and is convenient to the show, but that is all I can say for it. It is buffet-only, which is fine, but there is an absence of interesting options. This is especially true for someone who is looking for healthier options. The menu reflects some very interesting salad and vegetable options but they were not actually available. It is also tremendously over-priced, at $32/person and the least expensive glass of wine at $10. There are a lot of other great dining options within close driving distance to Wolf Trap. The price and limited menu options make Ovations not the best choice for a Wolf Trap patron."

  • "The food was pretty good, but only half the buffet was open. No explanation was given as to why."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The quality and variety of the buffet is gone from good to sad. Not worth the money. Stop in Vienna and have a nice meal before the performance, it wil be more pleasurable."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "We decided to dine at Ovations before a performance after considering the options of picnicking on property or going to a nearby restaurant. Smart decision because by the time we arrived at the park the skies opened up and torrential rain began to fall. We were all soaked by the time we took our seats but the wait staff was upbeat and helpful, providing us with cloth napkins to attempt to dry off. I have to admit that I'd sworn off buffets and was a bit surprised at the relatively high per person charge, but efficiency was important so we went for it. And I was so surprised to find the buffet offerings to be universally delicious! And sophisticated -- aka not kiddie food. The wait staff continued to be appropriately attentive."

  • "The buffet was very good, and lots of selections. However, we were very disappointed that there is no a la carte possibility. Visitors are stuck with the expensive buffet. Through last year we had that option. I suppose that it didn't pay."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "We found the food to be good but not great the evening we were there. The service was excellent and it was a great pre-show place to have conversation, food and wine. The weather was perfect which made the experience even better!"
