Diner Reviews
  • "You will love the food and the service is outstanding."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "The prices are up from last year and the quality of the food is way down. If there was any other option for dining at Wolf Trap, we wouldn't eat here. It is a poor advertisement for their other resturants."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "We found the food to be good but not great the evening we were there. The service was excellent and it was a great pre-show place to have conversation, food and wine. The weather was perfect which made the experience even better!"

  • "$39 for about $9 worth of food-it was delicious and convenient but it was like eating at a large cafeteria outdoors."

  • "Food was average at best. Drinks were bad. Service was poor."

  • "The leisurely buffet of fine dishes taken from a variety of Capital Restaurant menus, with open air ambiance, is an excellent way to taper into any show at Wolf Trap. The Savannah Chicken and BBQ Brisket were exceptional, but there's something tasty for everybody, plenty of it. The attractive young servers add enthusiasm and conversation of the same sort you find at National Parks across the land. The easy stroll to the Filene Center is a fine digestif."

  • "My son and I had dinner here before a concert on July 3. This is my second time dining here and though the food was very good overall there were a couple of things that needed improvement this time. The pork tenderloin was very over cooked and dry as was the catfish. When you pay $32 for a buffet I expect the food to be top quality and not something I have to leave on my plate unfinished. I think they need to cut back on the amount of tables as well, they are so crammed in that you have no room to get up and go to the buffet if someone is sitting next to you or if anyone else is moving about."

  • "The food at Ovations was good for a buffet, with a good selection and fresh ingredients. The service staff was very nice, if a little overworked. My big complaint is that the 2-top tables were much too close together, particularly because buffet dining requires that the diners get in and out of their seats frequently. Also noisy. I take it that the restaurant was unusually busy on the night we ate there recently; we have not had this problem in the past."

  • "Ovation would not honor or reservation. We showed up a little early and we were told the restaurant was full all day and night."

  • "Loved having dinner & walking to wolf trap w car parked early. Food was just ok...menu changes...would have liked a chicken & pasta choice but beef & seafood was on the buffet my night. Tables are too close...had to move mine to let person in behind me. Would return for convenience of wilf trap show."

  • "Lovely and fresh salad choices. Multiple hot items. Desserts in the dozens, plus make your own sundaes."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner here before Donna Summer concert in 2008. The food was ok nothing to scream about. We felt it was a bit over priced. $20 -$25 would have been more like it. Mostly processed foods."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "I am generally not a fan of buffets, but Ovations was a pleasant surprise. Well-prepared food and a very nice outdoor tented space with a lovely view of the countryside. I would recommend it for any pre-show dinner at Wolftrap."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "The buffet is the only offering. The food was definitely better than most buffets I have tried. There were fewer choices than one would expect, but those few were well prepared. The salads were fresh and replenished frequently. The carving station served a barbecued brisket that was very tender and nicely seasoned. I would go back because it offers a nice alternative to a lawn picnic at Wolf Trap."

  • "The southern food only options with fried check, processed pork loin loaf, and processed beef loaf was in bad task for a restraurant such as Ovations, this should be removed from the rotation. Healthy and quality food is what one looks for when dining at this restraurant. We should be advised what the dish for the night of entertainment will be at the time of the reservation so the patrons can decide to eat healthy somewhere else or pay an expensive price for what was nothing short of Church's chicken method of frying chicken."

  • "I have dined here many times over the years before attending Wolftrap concerts. I was very disappointed during my recent visit. The entree food selections were average and not comparable to the high price. The service was slower than usual. We plan on a picnic dinner during our next visits to wolftrap."

  • "The service, the view, and the food was excellent. The buffet price was reasonable. My wife and I were impressed."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "The location is lovely and convenient if you want to get to wolf trap, park the car, and have dinner without worrying about getting to the show/concert on time. Although the salads were good, the entrees were undistinguished and the choices limited (e.g., several shrimp/pork/beef entrees but nothing vegetarian, and the only chicken was fried). The service is casual and pleasant. Without beverages (all extra), the bill with 15% tip was $78."

  • "A great venue when going to a Wolf Trap performance. Make a day out of it and the next time your going to a concert - eat here!"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We found the hot food items very good..The fried chicken was fantastic and plenty of fresh veggies and salad bar items..You sit under a pavilion style setting overlooking the park below. They offer a ample wine list, cocktails and 4/5 beer selections..Their are two identical ala carte sides that you access for the hot meal items and salad bar items. Off to one side is a desert table that had a very good southern banana pudding and raspberry sorbet. We were delighted to see no flies around which could only be attributed to the numerous overhead fans operating...Arrive early, sit back, chill and watch the horde come in while you're having a tasty meal and a glass of vino....Make your reservation a week or two before your concert date."

  • "Decent food, decent service, very convenient. Is it a good value? Depends upon your priorities - the price seems steep to me but it could simply be their way to keep the volume of patrons at a manageable level."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "Food was good, service was good, but the check charged $46 for a bottle of Malbec that was on the menu at $44. So check your check!"

  • "Nice and varied selection of entrees; the brownies were delicious!"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "the salad was great and the fresh fruit for dessert was also. everything else was over salted to the point of Inedibility. the mahi mahi was dry. never going back."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Even though it had limited hours and you had to expect a crush of people, the food trays were empty and not speedily refilled. The fish was overcooked. There should be someone to oversee the food table to assure replenishment."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "The environment was nice with the outdoor seating. Chairs were hard; however we brought our own cushions which made sitting there for hours enjoyable. The VA trees were a delight to enjoy as we dined. Service was excellent. We dined before we went in to see the Grease movie sing-a-long. They had a wide selection of food which made dining enjoyable for a buffet."

  • "Ovations at Wolf Trap provided a nice, easy dinner before the show on June 20. The food is buffet style, but better than expected, with good variety. The servers are quick with water and drinks. The setting is a beautiful hillside and the outdoor restaurant is spacious. Overall, a great easy dinner."

  • "Noise level was fine - not sure of what I clicked above"

  • "Very typical of an average hotel buffet on a Sunday. Not at all in keeping with the surroundings. Very expensive given the quality of the food."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Food was great and tasty. Very innovative. We've eaten at all of the Wolf Trap offerings, and this was by far the best. Nice option to save time on a weeknight after work, before the concert. Service was great, but our server was the bad apple."

  • "Our group of 4 adults dined at Ovations before an evening show. We weren't interested in preparing & transporting a picnic this time & decided to try Ovations. We were very satisfied with the convenience and quality of the food relative to the cost. To be realistic, a buffet presents a challenge with keeping food warm while not over cooking it. I thought they did a good job with that. There was also a good variety of options to choose from for all of the courses. The staff in general & our server were very nice, but he had quite a few tables, so sometimes we had to flag him down for drinks. Rain was in the forecast, so they had the clear, plastic curtains up. This made it a bit stuffy, but it was a good precaution."

  • "The buffet was outstanding and you didn't have to wait in lines and can go back time after time. The noise level in the tent is not too loud that you can easily have conversations without shouting. I would recommend this for anyone. It is a little expensive but you are able to eat and walk a short distance to the concert area."

  • "Ovations serves a buffet which includes dishes that sound "interesting". The menu varies from Wolftrap event to event. Judging Ovations at face value though, mediocre is a bit too kind. Most of the buffet dishes offered were nondescript. We didn't feel compelled to get more of anything. The bread offerings (two kinds) were basically stale the night we were there. The "dishes" offered were not compelling...except that my wife liked the barbecue chicken breast and did get a second piece. We ordered drinks [martinis to be exact] before eating. They were, well, very mediocre. In short, there's little to get excited about at Ovations except perhaps for the young people working their who were very nice indeed. But Il Volo was SENSATIONAL!"

  • "My husband and I usually eat here before a show at Wolftrap. The buffett is quite good and the youngsters waiting tables are friendly and helpful. And they work their tails off in the humid outdoor air!"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "This was my first experience dining at Ovations, and it was a pleasurable experience. The buffet offered a variety of choices, so most every person should be able to find an acceptable meal. My only disappointment was the lack of a sugar-free offering for dessert (other than a fruit which in many cases provide higher sugar/carb counts than other options). In today's market, many individuals are steering toward sugarless options. I am sure that the Ovations chef is creative enough to design a delicious sugar-free dessert for the patrons of Wolf Trap."

  • "We have eaten at Ovations many times over the years since it is a great spot to have dinner before a show. The food is always consistently of food quality an the staff is always friendly. We do with they would add Espresso/Cappuccino service after the meal rather than just coffee. We enjoy the Wolf Trap experience and Ovations is a traditional part of that. Nice leisurely dinner followed by a short wok to your seats."

  • "We came on a raining with isenglass sides down. A little hot in there as expected. Still worth the dining experience before a performance. Always plan to dine in Ovations before performances."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "I'd highly recommend going to Ovations before seeing a show at Wolf Trap. The buffet offered very diverse foods (including an assortment of meats and vegetarian options), all of which I thought were delicious, and scrumptious desserts. Our waiter, and all the food servers, were as congenial, accommodating and as charming as could be. Plus, by dining at Ovations, you beat the crowd rushing to get to Wolf Trap at the last minute, so you walk into the show feeling relaxed and well fed. Life as it should be!"

  • "Ovations has a nice casual atmosphere. The service was very good. The buffet had less choices than I expected but what was there was very good. It's a good place to relax and eat before seeing a show. I've eaten there before and will return again at my next performance."

  • "If you like to dine out before a concert, Ovations at Wolftrap works out very well. The car is already parked: You are already there. Just step into the Ovations tent and they have a huge buffet waiting. There must be something for just about anyone. The staff is quick and helpful. You could easily order a bottle of wine, if you please. If pressed for time, you can scoot through the lines for a quick meal. If you have plenty of time before the concert, you could have a huge, leisurely meal. It all tastes pretty good, too."
