I've heard a lot of positive
reviews about this place, so we wanted to give it a shot. I like the fact that it's just outside of the Old Port, so parking was a cinch. Food was solid, all the offerings I believe are locally sourced which is nice. Cocktail and drink menu is eclectic, perhaps a tad too much. The wine pours were not that generous, and given the price that's a bit disappointing. The ambiance was nice, and bar is impressive, however our biggest complaint would have to be with the intimate seating arrangement. The tables are literally on top of each other. Our table of 2 felt like it was a table of 6, a little too crowded for our tastes. Overall, Outliers is a nice selection for a date night, if you don't mind bumping shoulders."

This restaurant is not a place for
a quiet romatic dinner. The food was decent. I had the halibut (slightly undercooked) with white asparagus and risotto. The sauce the fish came with was good. The wine selection is nice but the restaurant is just too loud. I would return for a drink at the bar and maybe and an appetizer, but I would not recommend this spot for a romantic dinner."

I wanted to take my boyfriend,
who's quite a foodie, out to a nice Valentine's dinner. Alas, I'd completely forgotten to make dinner reservations. By the time I did remember, O.E. was the only place that looked appealing and still had a table for two available. When we got there, we therefore didn't really have any kind of expectation--but we left being wowed and firmly committed to coming back! So, in 250 characters or less: FOOD: outstanding, great combination of flavors, beautifully presented. DRINKS: great cocktails, extensive wine list, good selection of beers. AMBIENCE: tasteful, modernist look, not too noisy. SERVICE: Impeccable; my boyfriend kept commenting that everyone working there was always doing something and very attentive."

Outlier's is a new and brilliant
gem on the Portland foodie scene. I would place it among the top ten restaurants in this small city. The room was conducted with care, from the vibrant bar to the blown glass fixtures above each table emitting low level lighting. We had the chef's 5 course tasting menu for two which allowed us to taste and experience the chef's range with food. Each dish was elegantly presented and burst with flavor. Go and enjoy! I will return again and again."

I reserved table for two 24 hours
in advance and a nice table with a great water view was waiting. Really Delicious food at reasonable prices. Lovely decor and nice view of the harbor. Very close to Old Port and the rest of Portland, but off the beaten track. Use your GPS, even if you know portland well. Didn't have a brunch cocktail, but the menu was extensive and choices looked interesting. Servers were busy but attentive. Very highly recommend this spot. One small caveat, it is noisy."

We had to wait quite a while for
our table despite the fact that we had a reservation. It took ages for the waitress to take our drink order, and even longer for said drinks to arrive. When our drinks DID arrive, the waitress spilled creamer all over one of my dining companions, the table, and the bench she was sitting on. It took ages for the waitress to then come back and take our food order. The food took forever to arrive, and when it did, my dish was woefully under-seasoned and my husband's dish contained a large plastic bottle cap. I won't be returning to this restaurant."

Have been twice now for brunch and
it was wonderful. Can't wait to try it for dinner. We have introduced 4 people to Outliers and they all are anxious to come back. Thank you."

It was a friend's 21st birthday.
We wanted to go somewhere close by since we're still in school. Food was delicious, and the ambiance of the restaurant was great. The only thing that I wasn't too fond of was the service. For a restaurant that was charging as much as it was for a Maine restaurant, I would have hoped for the service to be better. We didn't know our waitress' name. Because we were younger, it seemed as if she was more attentive to the older groups, which is a little frustrating. We had to ask for clean utensils after our salad, which shouldn't happen. After appetizer dishes are cleared, there should always be a clean set of utensils (minus the appetizer fork now). But our waitress was very nice and accommodating."

Four of us tried Outliers based on
a recommendation from a "foodie friend." We were more than impressed! The ambience was the best - we had brunch there, and I'm sure lunches and dinners were equally excellent - but the brunch exceeded already high expectations! Service was just the best - combination of friendly, smiling personable waitress with prompt attentive service. All four of our group loved their food, and We will return!"

My wife and I were in town on
vacation. This place was a recommendation from one of the local bartenders. We thankfully had our GPS as it is hard to find otherwise. The Charcuterie platter was a great start to our meal, the board was full of thinly sliced unusual meats such as wild boar and a nice duck pate. My wife had the roasted duck with fingerling potatoes and glazed baby carrots. I had the lobster over house made fettuccini in a lite cream sauce. Each of these dishes were delicious and well worth the money, we were very happy with our choices and would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting and looking for a great local place to eat in Portland Maine."

4 of us had Sunday brunch. We all
enjoyed the food. One in our party is vegan and loved the vegan special of the day, a burrito with spicy tofu. We are always pleased to find a place that puts thought into vegan cooking and Outliers does so. (Many places still load vegetarian dishes with cheese and butter, making it hard to find good vegan cuisine). The space is bright and airy with a modern, hip feel. The only drawback is the noise level. The hard floors and walls don't absorb much sound so it is noisy. Go there for good food and an energetic vibe."

Went to dinner on Saturday
night...arrived at 6pm and place was relatively quiet. By 6:30, the place was full and "hopping"...lots of energy. Food, service and atmosphere were top notch...what a great combination. We had the charcuterie tray, mussels, mushroom soup and burger. It was tough to choose since so many things on the menu looked great. Everything was wonderfully satisfying."

Great foo, good location,
excellent service. But there were only a few people in the restaurant and our party of two had to shout to be heard. Given the number of tables in the restaurant it will become impossible to be heard when it is full"

Truly enjoyed the evening. Great
menu, excellent preparation and tasty. The noise level Ned's serious attention. It's difficult to converse, but don't let this dither you from enjoying some great food!"
Dined on 1/17/2014
I'd recommend it with a warning
that noise level was so high it made conversation nearly impossible. I wonder if they might install acoustic tiles or something to absorb some of the din and make dining more enjoyable. Food was delicious."

We had a great experience at
Outliers. The appetizers and entrees were just delicious and Megan was very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

We had a wonderful dinner at
Outliers on a Saturday night. The salad was great and the our main courses were delicious. Service was very good, our server was attentive and engaging so very relaxing. The only problem was they had run out of CO2 to run the tap system so I couldn't have the beer I was looking forward to but our server was generous with the wine so the disappointment was soon forgotten. The decor is modern yet cozy and as the evening developed there seemed to be good crowd in the bar. A little off the beaten path but a great addition to this neighborhood."

Outliers is on a fairly quiet end
of York St in Portland's West End. The restaurant is warm and inviting on a very cold winter night which it was when we ate here. The food options are interesting and the two entrees we had were very good. It takes a bit of looking to find Outliers but it is worth it. We enjoyed our meal and will return."

This was my first visit to
Outliers. I live in Philadelphia but travel to Portland at least once a month and I'll be sure to be back!"

This was an extraordinary dining
experience. We went for New Year's Eve for which there was a specific menu (7 courses). The meal and service was outstanding making for the best dinner we have had to bring in the New Year (it happens to be our anniversary and this was our 25th). From scallops to duck, lobster tail to a filet, everything was very tasty and artistically presented. We did the recommended wine pairing and it was perfect with each course they brought. We are looking forward to going back ASAP and highly recommend Outliers."
Dined on 12/31/2013
The noise level was very high and
the door allows very cold wind to come in during your dining experience. The service was incredible and ambiance is trendy and comfortable. The duck dish at New Years was really tough and the menu veered a bit from what was advertised. I would go back and look forward to trying their nightly menu and brunch."

Brunch on 12/29/13 found me
waiting 20 minutes for service; Alden brought lemon water to me, which I appreciated. The lobster benedict was barely lukewarm; Erin didn't return to my table until I flagged her down for my check . Yes, I had a 12:30 reservation. My previous 3 visits were outstanding: Kayla's service was terrific! Better than wonderful -- I will come in again; I look forward to an outstanding experience -- Happy New Year!"

we had amazing dinner. I went with
my parents for an early dinner. The food melted in your mouth goodness. I hope you include yourself for Restaurant Week, so more people will be able to experience the love you put in your food."

We had our office holiday
gathering there and the staff at Outliers couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating and the food was fantastic! Beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended!"

Our experience at Outliers was top
notch from beginning to end. Great service in a beautiful atmosphere. Food was outstanding and there were a bunch of great beers to choose from. A great place for foodies, beer geeks, or anyone really."

and was inconsistent."

Waitress was excellent - knew the
wine list and menu items well and answered questions in a pleasant and knowledgeable manner. We were a group of 8 and had no complaints. Food was delicious and service outstanding!"
Dined on 12/4/2013
It was a relaxed atmosphere and
they were able to handle our larger group (8 people). The food was wonderful and very tastey. The selection wasn't overwhelming but varied. Three of our party were celebrating birthdays and we were able to sit and enjoy each others company without feeling rushed. The resturant surprised each of the birthday girls with a glass of champaign and comped their desserts. I would highly recomment this resturant, however it is a bit noisy so if you have a hearing issue, ask for a corner table."
Dined on 11/22/2013
Great restaurant. We all arrived
on time and were seated immediately. The first table offered was square and in the center of the room. However, we noticed an available slightly larger table in the corner, and we requested that. The host readily took us over to that table. Two of us started with the broccoli cheddar soup. That was delicious, light and tasty. Two of us shared the hanger steak entree; it was excellent. One shortcoming is that vegetarians might find the menu too limited. There was only one vegetarian dish. The wine list was varied, and the beer list had a number of unusual labels. We were all pleased with all our choices. Although the noise level is "energetic", we were comfortably able to carry on conversations."

First time to Outliers, great
experience! The duck and lamb raviolli were great. Wonderful service. Best of all, try the speciality cocktail "Substance Abuse." The green Chartreuse with vodka and gin was sublime, and the peppermint altoid in the glass was a perfect touch. Kuddos to our server who apparently invented the drink and recommended it."
Dined on 11/16/2013
All four of us had different
entrees and they were all delicious: lobster, swordfish, duck and hangar steak. The service was excellent; the food fabulous and the décor fun and lively. Will definitely look forward to going back again soon."
Dined on 11/16/2013
Everything was perfect. Erin, our
wait person, made the experience personable. Beware, if there are large parties eating there can be noises. When you reserve they actual save a table for you."

We just love Outliers! Everything
from the inventive menu using lical ingredients to the decor and location is great Plus there is really good parking right out front.."
Dined on 11/3/2013
From making and then having to
adjust our reservation the staff was cordial and professional. The atmosphere is sleek, new and industrial so noise levels can get a little high, but it is inviting to the eye. We were seated on time, nothing was rushed. The menu appropriately covered all the necessary needs of diners and is updated daily. Cocktail menu is excellent and we sampled a few speciality cocktails as well as some old standards. The food from appetizers to desert was solid, portion sizes were perfect, preparation and presentation was very professional. This is a solid restaurant that you keep going back to time and time again. It is located in a nice residential neighborhood, which gives it that personal "feel"."
Dined on 11/2/2013
The food was good but the service
was a big disappointment - we won't return. Service issues included being seated at the banquette, and having a server sit next us to chatting with her parents about her cell phone bill; a delay of at least 15 minutes in bringing a cocktail - my husband had to go up to the bar and check on it - and then no apology from the waitress when she finally brought it; lwater glasses not being filled timely; and finally, no offer of dessert when we were finished with out entrees. The food at Outliers was good – but with so many wonderful restaurants in Portland who can compete equally well with the quality and creativity of their food, a restaurant needs to shine with service."
Dined on 11/1/2013
We loved the lamb ragu and pork
chop. The lobster dish was excellent with a generous portion of lobster. The creme brulee was a wonderful late fall sweet treat."
Dined on 10/26/2013
As a group of six with a variety
of food requirements, our meals were all delicious. The staff accommodated our vegetarian and vegan requests. Good food, great ambience and noise level was not over the top. One suggestion - chairs aren't exactly comfortable - some lean way back."
Dined on 10/25/2013
The duck and the hangar steak were
amazingly well done, but the green beans and the white beans served as accompaniment stole the show! The charcuterie plate was very generous, and definitely more appetizer than necessary for 2. Our waitress was very thoughtful, and before she went to seat a large party, came back to check on us. The kitchen was a bit backed up, but we didn't find the wait terribly long, especially after the large portion of charcuterie. The decor in the restaurant is absolutely stunning, however it is a bit loud, and could benefit from some sound dampening."

Food was OK...nothing special,
Dined on 10/19/2013
Another wonderful meal had by
all......Our foursome picked and chose our way through both the bar menu and food menu and all came away happy and well sated! From the cobia fish appetizer to the charcuterie offering to the chicken spring rolls to the lobster and scallops and the on to the the fried dough and apple crisp that we shared for desert all was perfectly flavored and properly served. The only down side is the the noise level: at times we couldn't hear our own conversation as all noise was being reflected off the hard surfaces.......Should be better next time as they ARE working on that problem!"
