A word from Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.
Lunch and dinner daily, brunch on weekends.

  • "This was our first visit. Love that they are open on Sunday. Found it to have a great menu selection and a lovely presentation of delicious food. The crispy crabcakes are a wonderful starter. Definitely will return!"

  • "If you book a reservation for a weekend night - you might want to make sure they don't have a wedding booked for their main dining room. It's just not the same great restaurant when there is all that other going on."

  • "Throngs of people. I was meeting a friend and asked for a quiet table, thru the reservation. DID NOT HAPPEN"

  • "We had reservations for 8:30PM. We arrived right at 8:30 but were informed that there would be a wait of 15 or 20 minutes. The receptionist/hostess said we could go to the bar or sit on the bench in the hall. We went to the bar and it was full with no place to sit. The bench in the hallway was full and there were people standing also. The reception area also had people standing and waiting. The noise was so loud from everyone in the dining room and from those waiting that my wife and I could not even hear each other. I informed the receptionist that we were leaving. At another restaurant nearby we didn't have to wait. The food and live music was very good and we could converse with each other without having to yell. The evening ended well."

  • "I had heard good things about this restaurant but it did not live up to the reviews. Service was lackluster and the mangers - I saw 2 - never visited the table. Chicken was VERY dry and nothing special. Matter of fact, it's a nice place - cool atmosphere but the food was fair and the service was nothing special. Won't be back."

  • "Went here recently for the first time in many years. My past complaints about the place are relevant today: Consistently slow / poor service, Poor wine service practices ($300 bottle of wine that was served at what felt like 80 degrees). For the prices they are charging, the experience should be so much better."

  • "Returning to this restaurant from a 1 year void, happened to be a wonderful dining experience. We opted for the HRW menu. Steak entree melted in your mouth. The fried oyster and crab cake appetizers were little bites of heaven. The coffee cheesecake was decadent and the fresh fruit tasted as if it were just picked. I forgot how wonderful the food is at this resaturnt. We took a peek at the overall menu and will be back to dine again and it will not take us a year to return!"

  • "We had a ladies lunch date @ Ouisie's today trying out the Houston Restaurant Week menu, the selection were excellent and good portion size for a great price $20. I love their general menu, too. Everything is delicious!"

  • "We ate on enclosed terrace - white table clothes, lots of windows and space among the tables. A lovely room. However, it was extremely noisy and we had to shout at each other to be heard. Perhaps that's a given in any restaurant at night, but it's a deal breaker for me. Two of us had chicken fried steaks and I had grilled salmon - both were delicious! One of us was very disappointed in his prime rib, but he didn't mention it to our waitress so we don't know what steps she would have taken to make his experience more pleasing. One of us had just an arugula salad with fresh berries; she said it was "a little too heavy on the dressing," but otherwise fresh and good."

  • "WAY TOO LOUDm decent food, have had better there, but the presence of many parties made it difficult to converse."

  • "My immediate family decided to go out for brunch, and we've heard great things out Ouisie's Table, and wanted to try it ourselves. It was fabulous! We dined on the Restaurant Weeks menu: I had crab cakes, corn meal pancakes, and chocolate covered profiteroles. Plus, they have bottomless mimosas! The staff was excellent, extremely tentative to my grandmother's special needs, food was served in a timely manor, they even had a pianist and saxophonist playing jazz! Valet is only$3, which I thought was extremely cheap. The only down side to me was, it was kind of noisy. However, they were busy, with music playing, but it was hard to hold a conversation. No matter what, we will be dinning more often now."

  • "Is it acceptable for a restaurant to take a reservation for 8:00pm and not seat the party until 8:45pm? Is it acceptable for a restaurant to completely ignore a special request (because of a handicap) – and when asked about it, say there was nothing they could do? (But of course, they did find a way … but only after continued insistence that they do so.) I think the answer in both cases should be an emphatic “No!” All of these issues could have been (at least partially) overcome by an imaginative menu, but there too I was disappointed. Too many tired groupings of ingredients with too many common meats, poultry and fish. I eat out A LOT (over once per day on average) and won’t be going back to Ouisie’s any time soon."

  • "All at our table ordered from restaurant week menu. We were seated at exactly the time of reservation. Our waiter was very attentive, but the the kitchen was not able to keep up with Saturday night full house. Food was delicious but had to wait a long time for main and dessert course."

  • "It is obvious that the restaurant has gone swiftly downhill. The dining room has far too many tables and I lost track of the number of times the back of my chair was butted into by staff and customers. The premium call gin was watered and blended with bottom shelf tonic. Round 2 was only slightly improved because we could taste the gin. The Tandoori Chicken was mildly (read barely) flavored and the accompanying "lobster mashed potatoes" were served room temp. Perhaps they are mashed by lobsters? We were proudly presented the check BEFORE the ordered dessert was presented. I guess we were getting the bum's rush? With all of the really terrific dining to be had in Houston it will be easy to avoid a return to Ouisie's. The valet was great!"

  • "I had heard how wonderful Ouisie's table was and I came expecting the best and they delivered. Excellent food, service and in all a total superb dining experience. Dessert was Tres Leches and it features as one of my top three desserts."

  • "The wife and I went to Ouisie's during restaurant week. When we arrived we were told that they were full and that there would be a wait. We were then offered an immediate table in another room. When we entered we immediately noticed that the room was not a normal dining area, more of a storage room. We decided to help out the restaurant and accept this substandard arrangement on the proviso that we were not going to be ignored "out of the mainstream". After receiving our main course over 1hr after seating the rest of the evening was a blur of hunger, resentment and anger at our treatment. My suggestion to Ouisie's: Either learn to deal with the known influx of business restaurant week brings or do not participate at all!!!"

  • "The place was jammin'!!!! I had forgotten we were in Houston Restaurant Week, but, the staff was well prepared. Reservations were honored on time and no one was rushed. My waiter was so good I requested him for my next lunch reservation. By the way, his name is Melvin."

  • "We had a group of 5 and most everything was good. Salmon got a score of 8 and the lamb a 9 , however the prime rib was below par. The 8 year old granddaughter was impressed. We all had desserts and two of us ended the meal with some kind of pudding that they called "creme brulet." A disppointing end to a decent meal."

  • "Met a couple of good friends here for Sunday brunch. Our first time here and we were very, very pleased ! The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Jeff is one of the best we have ever seen. He was very helpful and friendly. Menu selection was good and the food did not disappoint. We will definitely be back."

  • "This place is perfect in almost every way- the decor, service are exceptional and wish it was somewhere I wanted to be every night! However the quality of the food is what would stop me. I came for brunch and ordered the crab cake Benedict - and there was only one egg, half of a muffin and a really tiny crab cake. I could live with that if the crab cake was truly lump crab meat; instead it was mostly breaking. My daughter had the shrimp & grits - and though it tasted okay, the fact there was scampi liquid sitting on the grits it just didn't look too appetizing. Perhaps with the events they host there that food is acceptable; but not for a regular patron ordering from the full price (not HRW!!) menu."

    Dined on 8/1/2014
  • "We had a table of 8 and 3 of us ordered the grilled cheese. The grilled cheese should be removed from the menu or change the name. It is basically cold cheese, olive and tomatoes on overdone toast. Really disappointing"

  • "went there with friend at last minute. they had (WOW) some self parking. place was pretty empty and quiet, which was perfect. got seated quickly. ordered some wine. sadly, they brought the wrong one to my friend. the little rolls were quite interesting (and delicious). asked for some more. ordered dinner (tuna) with spinach and some sort of potato flakes. was quite tasty. maybe just on the salty side. good presentation. coffee was really good. service was....slow. and I don't understandthis, since the place was not very filled (Tuesday nite). for example, remember the rolls? asked for some to go with dinner. both friend and I were almost done with main course when rolls came after second (?third) request."

  • "This was an early dinner for my mother's 78th birthday. I spoke to the manager ahead of time with special requests: champagne chilled and waiting upon our arrival and a birthday cake, deferring to him for selection. Both were lovely and well presented. Mother felt special the moment we entered Ousie's. Our waiter was attentive and missed nothing! His recommendations were on the mark - eight extremely satisfied people! Appetizers and entrees - trout, seafood crepes, coffee crusted steak; incredible sides like cheese grits and saffron risotto-perfectly executed and presented. Service remained superbly consistent with subtle suggestions and discreet removal of dinnerware. An evening we all agree was exceptional and will long remember."

  • "Sunday night early dinner was quiet and the service attentive and friendly. Dover sole was very good, although portion seemed slightly small. Sides were generous. Brandied oysters were very good. Wine specials very reasonable. Because fine dining seems to have become increasingly expensive for average food with smaller portions, we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed Sunday dinner at Ousies. We have been to Ouises at least a dozen or more times over the years and it remains fairly consisent in providing good food and service for the price."

  • "Ouisie's has been one of my favorite restaurants for years and they are consistently great! The crab benedict with jalapeno hollandaise is a fav! I always make reservations because it is oftentimes difficult to get a table without them."

  • "We were with another couple for Sunday brunch and it was a strain to talk. Also, they were so crowded I got bumped 6 or 7 times from behind even though I had my chair pushed in as far as it would go. The waiter had to reach in front of me to serve my friend it was so tight. I had a much better experience during lunch on a Wednesday."

  • "I made a reservation for our Anniversary and when we got there we had to wait 5 minutes for the host to come and seat us. Then they tried to seat us in the middle of the restaurant next to a large group of people when there were a lot of open tables. We requested another table and had to wait another 5 minutes for them to clear it. They deflated my wife's expectation by then. The Crab Tower appetizer was good but our entrees were not good at all. My wife had the seafood crepe, which needed some seasoning and had to much cheese on top of the crepe. I had the snapper with oysters and it tasted like they used a boot to season it. I only ate half of my plate and my wife kept asking to go get a burger when we leave the restaurant."

  • "The waitstaff were not personable and rather stuffy and Inattentive. Served butter dishes by sliding them across the table. Tossed breads onto plates. Food came out in a timely fashion but the personalities of the waitstaff is what turned me off. Only gave this an overall rating of 3 stars due to the Service."

  • "I wanted a 'different' and varied menu, as we were entertaining friends from Switzerland. Bingo! Ouisie's fit the bill. Out waiter was knowledgeable and very pleasant, making suggestions and helping with the our decision when a couple of us just couldn't decide. The Passion Tea was very refreshing and oyster appetizer Yummy! The service was wonderful without being made to feel rushed!! I'll definitely return!!"
