A word from Ouest
Ouest is a contemporary American Bistro, highly regarded on the Upper West Side and citywide. Executive Chef/Owner Thomas Valenti has created an oasis of fine dining and fine wines in a casual but sophisticated environment. If there is a special occasion (i.e. birthday, anniversary), please let us know if you would like a candle in dessert.

Corkage fee; $30. If you bring your own cake, it is a $3 per person plate charge.

  • "We had a pretty good meal here over Fourth of July weekend.they had prix fiix special which included soft shell crab-"sandwhich:which was nice-also oyster stew. the seats in bar were dark and not the most comfortable...,but i didnt realize there might have been a choice.perhaps sitting in the restaurant proper would have been a much more pleasant experience.may try that..."

  • "Had the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. So much food!!! All 5 courses were wonderful with one exception - the skate was way too salty. We didn't bother telling the waiter and ate it - our mistake as I'm sure he would've done something about it. I've done tastings at other restaurants and I've never seen such large portions! The wines were perfect with each course. One in particular was so good that I asked the waiter to write the name down for me. When I researched it at home, I discovered that it was a $12 bottle - a true find! And lastly, the waiter was so professional and friendly - so much so that the dining experience was enhanced by him."

  • "The food was wonderful, the table (on the landing) lovely and quiet. The service, however, was erratic - my dining companion ordered a before- dinner drink and it came right away. I ordered one, and it did not arrive until after the server had collected our salads. The salads arrived very shortly after they were ordered - then he brought my before-dinner drink - then the entrees arrived, almost too soon! Overall, a great place - just wish the service had been more calm and orderly."

The bus boys are wonderful my server was perfect. The Hostess we friendly and charming. Besides all that the food wonderful just wonderful. Rack of lamb, hanger steak, fried chicken all great I could go on but get dessert cappuccino Sunday yummo. Perfect"

  • "I've never been disappointed at Ouest. The special appetizer was provolone brulee, which was basically melted cheese on a plate, but delicious. The seafood salad appetizer was my entree, since I wasn't particularly hungry. It had lobster, scallops, and shrimp, in good supply. My companion reported her ravioli was just ok though. And I really love the flavor of the lemon poundcake I had for dessert."

Mostly because the sauces and dressings are made and applied with a very heavy hand. I found the salad and side dishes gloppy. Nevertheless I would go back and recommend this atmospheric UWS restaurant , especially for special occasions"

  • "We've been to Ouest more than 30 times since it opened and it continues to be our favorite. We can't come to New York without visiting Ouest. Their martini is a classic. My favorite appetizer is the smoked sturgeon (now smoked trout) salad with frisee, poached egg and lardons. My wife had the monkfish on this visit and declared that it was the best she's ever had."

  • ""Simply grilled" salmon was a tiny portion from the tail end and overdone despite a medium rare order. Skate was very mediocre. Service was inexperienced--a summer intern? Polenta--generally a must--was gloppy, starchy and not particularly tasty. House salad starter was good and sauteed spinach side was good. WHAT HAPPENED?"

They need to put some energy back in their game. On the positive side, the mixed green salad is still wonderful and the bartenders know everything about every major league player that is playing or has played the game."

  • "I have lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and visited Quest in the past. I recently visited and was disappointed to find pre-made dishes which allowed for no substitutions and no ability to negotiate dietary restrictions. Additionally, my party, which included African Americans received "that" undesirable table too close to the front door for comfort again with no ability to negotiate better placement. I think the restaurant is tired or lazy or both. "

  • " Very much looking forward to a roasted chicken with french beans and mash. Roasted chicken was not on the menu, so i opted for the buttrmilk fried pouisson ( translate to scrawny chicken) which came out as 3 pieces that KFC would have tossed on site. The food was old and the cook must have thought it was a steak so he attempted to sear the outside...return to sender. My wifes dish of Eden Brook Truout must have gotten mixed up with the bait they use catch the trout. It was tail meat that had clearly been sitting around and shoud not have been served to any biped. 3rd time back...1st was fine, 2nd time eh, 3rd time ....had nigtmares last night about chickens that were on fire and bait past it's due date. Will not be back "

  • "Although our server was first-rate, this is the first time I was disappointed with the food at Ouest. My "medium well" hanger steak was burnt to a crisp, totally gray throughout. Sent it back. The replacement, which arrived twenty minutes later, was better. My companion's rack of lamb, while tasty, was extremely tough, very difficult to even cut, let alone eat, and not at all what we expected. Don't know what happened, but it was an "off" night food-wise. "
