I did a search for the best places to eat in the Madison area, and Otto's came up as one of the top ten. The restaurant itself is in an old farmhouse that has been redone. It has 3 levels and we ate on the top floor. Don't go if you cannot do steps. There were alot of steps! I could not believe how busy it was for a Wed. nite. I was glad that I had made a reservation. We had drinks, a starter, dinners and then dessert. Everthing was excellent. The waitstaff was very good also. While the menu has not changed a great deal over that time we have found that comforting and know we will never encounter an unpleasant surprise.

Unfortunately, in the midst of a chaotic week, I had mistakenly booked our reservation for the wrong night! We showed up at 9 pm on a busy Friday expecting a table for six, and although the hostess quickly figured out my mistake, she was very polite and didn't act put out at all. We got a drink in the bar while the staff quickly set up a table for us, and my error was hardly noticed. Our waitress was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional, and everyone's food was tasty and fresh. Ottos is a lovely upscale restaurant for drinks or a nice dinner. We are never disappointed, and always look forward to our next visit. Our only sad and negative experience was when ....for Valentines Day the reservation list was full and we had to eat elsewhere. It's pretty much hit or miss in most Madison restaurants as to whether the service will be good or not. Otto's has never failed. They have the best service in Madison. Unfortunately until recently I haven't taken advantage of the dining experience at Otto's. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food presented. It's also locally owned and not a chain restaurant. This is it! A former home turned into a cozy restaurant with a very appealing bar, the menu has good variety of appetizers that intrigue the palate; and the entres are generous and tasty. We were placed in a corner in the upper area and were able to catch up on news, etc. in a quiet, pleasant atmostphere. All of us had worked together years ago and try to meet as often as we can. We love to go to Otto's because we are not rushed, it is relatively quiet and we can have a wonderful dinner.
