Diner Reviews
  • "I have been living in madison for 10 years and it's my first time to come here.the food was great, service was awesome."

  • "Based on the positive reviews for Otto's, thought my date and I would check it out....both of us were not disappointed. Our waiter highly recommended the sea bass and the lamp chops, both of which looked very good to us so we decided to order both items and share. My date and I agreed that the lamb chops were probably the best we ever had, and while not as good, the sea bass was also something to come back for and experience again. Overall the menu was a bit pricey, but given the quaility of the food prepared it is well worth the price. We will definately be going back again. "

  • "Had not been to Otto's in many years and was not disappointed in the food. The tasting menu was delicious and a great value. The only downside was the service. Friendly waitress, but each food course came out so rapidly, we hardly had time to start the last one. Then wine did not follow the courses because of this. The waitress disappeared when it was time to get the check, so it took a while to pay. Still, would come back and try out the patio and delicious food!"

  • "After being welcomed at the bar with an excellent margarita, my wife and I spent our 9 year anniversary enjoying the ambience of a tucked away beauty in Madison. The bartenders were friendly and engaging, and Fred was a hit. We learned the history and much more over 2 drinks. After drinks we headed upstairs in what felt like my Grandparents home. A classy and cozy feel. We each chose the Chefs tasting menu with the wine pairing. I highly recommend. The salad was fresh and delicious with a flavorful dressing. She had the walleye and I had the ribeye. We've each had many fish frys, and steak dinners but we agree that this ranks among the top 5 we've ever had. The cheese plate was perfect and the desert was, well, we'll definitely be back. "

  • "My husband and I went to Otto's for our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful dining experience. I ordered the seafood combo and the salmon, scallops, and shrimp were cooked to perfection. My husband had a steak and he said that also was flavorful and seasoned well. Our waiter was very attentive. Our courses came at nice intervals and we never felt rushed. The wait for our main course was very short. We splurged on an appetizer which was stuffed mushrooms and that also was very tasty and just the right size, so it didn't spoil our appetite for supper. The old fashioned I had was excellent! The ambience of an older home was very cozy and relaxing. Will definitely go back again!"

  • "Being from Chicago, we were unfamiliar with Otto's but it sounded interesting. The food was very good. As was the service."

  • "The food was very good and healthy options were plenty. Table by us was taking pictures every two seconds w a bright flash so that got annoying but ither than that it was perfect."

  • "Our delicious main course was book-ended by a superb tomato bisque and and equally superb blood-orange sorbet. I especially would like to commend our server. She was truly professional in the best sense. Friendly and helpful, low key, pleased to answer my daughter's questions about the history of the building, solicitous but not intrusive; she added hugely to our enjoyment of the experience."

  • "Wonderful dinner. We were 11 people in our group, everyone with separate bills. This was handled to perfection. The food was excellent. The waitress was courteous, efficient, and very pleasant. No complaints of any kind. Will definitely return often."

  • "Tuesday through Thursday Otto's has a tasting menu with choice of one of two featured appetizers/entrees/dessert for $25 and wine tasting with each course for additional $10. A real bargain and worth trying. We have done this twice and enjoyed it. The atmosphere in the old farmhouse is good and there is a thriving bar where food is also served for those wanting a snack."

  • "Otto's is one of my favorite places. The combination of a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and gourmet food provides for a perfect dining experience. I visit Otto's on every trip I make to Madison. The atmosphere is best described as casual, yet elegant. My favorites are the New Zealand lamb chops and the Chilean sea bass. My business partner thoroughly enjoys the perfectly aged prime beef. We've also taken advantage of the special tasting menus, which pair a perfectly matched glass of wine with every course, all the way through dessert. (By the way - try their Napoleon for dessert - you've never had anything like it.) There are only a few restaurants in New Orleans and Boston that I would rate as highly. Try Otto's - it is quite unique."

  • "We've been going to Otto's for years to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The food is always wonderful and the service superb. Most recently, we were there with our daughter to celebrate our 41st anniversary. It was a very busy night and when our table wasn't ready at our reservation time, we were offered a free appetizer (delicious!) We declined dessert after our meal -- we were stuffed -- but our waitress suggested we choose a complimentary dessert and take it home -- she'd overheard us toasting our anniversary. You can't go wrong at Otto's!"

  • "This is a great adult spot for a Saturday night dinner with friends. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation and the service is good but not disruptive."

  • "Ordered the Rib eye steak. It was cooked perfect and was better than the very expensive steak houses. Server was great; Friendly and food came out in a resonable time. Will definitely recommend and return."

  • "Otto's is a nice little restaurant in a historic home. Hidden away in a grove of trees, one can imagine the family that originally lived in this sweet home. Rib eye was very nicely cooked. A little more than the medium rare ordered, but still nice. Server was sweet and very attentive. Quiet and a nice place to have dinner with old friends."

  • "The food is always excellent. The dining rooms can be crowded, I think they try to put too many tables in the space available. It is a "fancy" restaurant with out the pretense."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "We loved our experience at Otto's. Great service in the bar and at our table. The sea bass was fantastic and the lamb was extremely tender and flavorful. Salads, sides and bread were all outstanding too. I definitely plan to dine here again."

  • "Our Valentines Dinner at Otto's was quite nice. Our requests for a quiet corner table and waitperson of choice were honored. The food was nicely presented. The calamari was excellent; hot but not greasy. The lobster was good size but a bit soggy. The Greek salad with chicken was excellent, as usual."

  • "This was my first time to Otto's and it was fabulous. the building is older so space is tight but the food was wonderful. This is the best filet mignon in madison. Truffle fries were great, mashed potatoes were a little bit heavy on the garlic but still good."

  • "Another outstanding dining experience at Otto's Restaurant. We went on Valentine's Day & were seated promptly at our reservation time. Wait staff is attentive, but not overly chatty--just the perfect amount of professionalism, courtesy, and information. Food was cooked perfectly, and attractively-displayed. The ambience is quaint, homey and love the character of the restaurant (it's a former home that was converted). We have NEVER had an experience that's less than perfect; that's why we choose to go to Otto's for special occasions (and regular dining occasions). They never disappoint. They have a good thing going. We would recommend Otto's to anyone!"

  • "We have been to Otto's many times and we are never disappointed with the food, drinks and service. There is "quality" in all those areas. Kim (the bar manager) always friendly and makes great drinks, the wait staff are very professional and attentive, we just are very pleased with Otto's whenever we visit them."

  • "Otto's is a favorite. My wife and I have been going for years and had a wonderful experience every time. We're partial to the seafood, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The wine list is fun, the selections aren't available in the local shops. As you can tell, we're fans and pleased to give Otto's a top recommendation based on many visits."

  • "Madison has many excellent restaurants and sometimes we forget the familiar, friendly, and outstanding favorites - notably, Otto's. A great bar, excellent menu, food and service (great service!). The deck is very nice if it ever warms up again. Inside, we prefer the second floor to the third. Just feels ... cozier."

  • "Otto's at one time had been our family home and it was wonderful to see it being used as an excellent restaurant. The food was superb and our waitress very attentive. A large party in the room made hearing a bit difficult but other than that we had a great evening and we will be back!"

  • "We typically dine at Otto's for special occasions, and it has been a while since our last visit. The cuisine, as usual, was suburb and my wife and I enjoyed celebrating my birthday. My only complaint - no after dinner espresso. Or cappuccino."

  • "Loved the atmosphere! Would love to go back for another special occasion."

  • "Otto's Restaurant is the first place we call to celebrate a special occasion, such as wedding anniversary, and as recently as a few days ago our birthdays. Always fantastic service and of course excellent food. I always recommend Ottos to friends and relatives. I've never been disapointed and look forward to my next reservation at Ottos."

  • "We loved the intimate bar and will look forward to staying longer and eating at a bar table in the future. Service at the bar and upstairs for dinner was perfect; attentive but not overbearing. Food was great. Fresh and well-prepared salmon and scallops. Nice presentation and solid all-around."

  • "This hidden gem, was warm and cozy, with great food for the price. The seafood sampler had delicious scallops, grilled shrimp and salmon. My wifes lamb was excellent as well. The Truffel fries were overrated and I wouldn't order again. . We finished with Wonder full deserts."

  • "when we arrived at Otto's it was extremely loud but the ambiance was very Christmas and decorated beautifully. Our reservations were at 7:30 so it was a very busy time. We sat upstairs so if you request to sit on the first level dining it may be better. By the time we finished our dinner it was very nice. I believe at first the service was slow because of how busy they were, but the food was amazing. I had the ricotta stuffed chicken breast and my partner had the duck breast. They were wonderful. We did receive a surprise dessert from Otto's on the house. They were very gracious. Food arrived hot and delicious. I would definitely go back but just make my reservation a little later (maybe 8-8:30?)."
