  • "The tomato sauce on our 3 pizzas was too smooth and tomato paste-y, although the prosciutto on one was divine. Our one dish of pasta was nearly crunchy - at least a minute away from al dente. Broccoli rabe and baccala apps were good. Desserts were good. The restaurant was so loud, we were yelling to be heard and two large tables near us were empty."

  • "This was my third visit to Otto. The food has always been good. With this last visit I was a bit disappointed with the service. Olive oil for bread dipping? Had to flag down the server and ask. Fresh grated cheese for your pasta? Wasn't even offered. Don't get me wrong. the food is consistently good (don't leave without trying the olive oil gelato)and I will certainly be back. The missed service details were Di disappointing, especially considering its a Batali joint."

  • "The food is excellent and the wines are terrific. The sommelier was able to pick exactly the right wine for each person in our party. We had a special pasta, agnolotti with goat cheese, that was particularly good but overall the food was just wonderful. Most of the staff couldn't have been nicer. We always had bread and water at the table and one young lady even offered to take our photo. Our waiter, however, was not very good. I've eaten here before and had good service, but this waiter seemed really disinterested. We had to ask him 3-4 times for salt and pepper and there were several other things that we had to repeatedly ask for. He also was really kind of rude when we asked questions about the menu. Not engaging or friendly at all."

  • "I have been to a few of Mario Batali's restaurants and the pasta is usually the highlight. Tonight the pasta was almost crunchy. Really was not great. Sauces were not exceptional in anyway. The Pizza was mediocre...sauce need to be cooked a bit more. Crust flavorless.... Thin but not like in Italy...just thin and mushy. Appetizers were the highlight.They were delicious! It was also incredibly noisy."

  • "A recent lunch at Otto was bliss on earth, a full but not packed restaurant with attentive service, excellent pizza, and a reasonably priced excellent wine, all laced together with well modulated Italian opera in the background. Saturday evening was something else, more "scene" than a place to enjoy a meal with friends. Service was rushed (why not? tons young patrons hanging in the bar, waiting to be seated). Pasta was overcooked and over seasoned; the recommended wine never opened up to its high price; and the general atmosphere was more circus than dining room. Had asked for a quiet table but were seated in the passageway connecting the bar and the restaurant proper--pounding music, screeching tables, endless parade of guests."

  • " I have not eaten here often but it never disappoints. The special pasta, with truffles, was outstanding! The salty peanut tartufo was very good but I would not order it again. It wasn't bad, just nothing that special. My daughter had the olive oil coppetta and that was very delicious. It's a wonderful restaurant and I was impressed that the host found my reservation promptly, without asking me to spell my name."

  • "We came in to the city for a show and decided to have an early dinner at Otto. My husband and I ordered five items and split each one of them. The cauliflower and beets appetizers were so delicious; the mushroom and taleggio pizza made pizza a special treat; fusilli with sausage and escarole - delightful; the blueberry-almond crumble was perfect; the quartino (we had to have a second) was just the right match. The service was not overwhelming as is often the case in other restaurants - we usually like to go a little more upscale, but this WAS top notch without upscale prices. It was perfect for a date, ladies night out, families,...who wouldn't love eating there? We will be making trips in to the city now just to eat at Otto."

  • "Walked in and it was LOUD! So many people packed in. Full house and this was at 9 on a Sunday night. It calmed down though about 1/2 hour in. Pizza was good. One of the pasta dishes was under cooked, but the waiter removed it from the bill. The fresh pasta dish was excellent. Make sure to share :). Dessert was excellent."

  • "The staff was rude initially and after an initial cocktail order to waiter ever came to ask how we were doing or if we wanted more drinks. After dinner was cleared we were also brought a bill and never asked if we wanted dessert. I'm not sure why the waiters wanted to go home instead of serve us but the experience was awful. On top of that the food was mediocre, it was not bad, but not good enough to go back even if I lived around the corner. So disappointed."

They were willing to accommodate to my garlic sensitivity; which is hard since sauces are generally pre-made. A great place for friends And long time couples ... not good for kids or a romantic first date; too noisy And cramped."

  • "I did my research about places to eat prior to leaving home and this one was at the top of my list. The restaurant is warm and inviting but too loud for me! I understand that might be a NY thing but yelling across the table to talk with the rest of the people in my party caused me more stress. Not only that but the waiter couldn't understand our questions and we had a difficult time hearing his. The "gourmet" Anchovy pizza was just the right size and was tasty but I wouldn't say it was the "best" pizza I'd ever had. On the other hand the Gelato was fabulous! The portion size was just right and I left feeling full but not stuffed! The decor was interesting but I'd suggest a few acoustical panels to help with the sound level."

Service is super friendly and it's worth arriving early to talk with one of the sommeliers who wander the waiting area because their wine-list is very deep. Earlier this week he unearthed a unique (for us at least) Italian Pinot Noir. The pizza is good, but don't miss out on the small plates and pasta"

  • "I had been there a month earlier and both the meal and the service were fantastic! This time, however, the service was so poor that it ruined the evening for us. After waiting for quite some time, the server came to greet us. She was short and not very friendly. We saw her twice more, once to order wine and once to order dinner. The rest of the evening she walked past us but never stopped to check on us, never even poured us another glass of wine. The people who filled the water, delivered our food and cleared our plates were great. And the hostess who delivered our bill was also very nice."

  • "My pet peeve is restaurants that, after a reservation, won't seat partial parties. So we stood, yes, STOOD at the bar, while a waiter, who we could no understand, tried to get us to order a drink. I'm sure this standing bar is supposed to be cool -- it's not. We eventually got seated. Food is good and reasonably priced; service is fine. But the place is way too loud. Our group of 6 couldn't hear each other without really shouting. This is not a delightful experience. Be sure to go here if you like to shout and your full party arrives at the same time. I won't be back."

  • "We love the food. We live in the neighborhood, so most of the time we order for delivery. The pastas, pizzas and vegetables are all wonderful. On this occasion, we invited 2 friends to join us at the restaurant. My partner walks with a cane, and when we arrived, we were told that since our entire party hadn't yet arrived, we needed to wait in the bar area. After standing for about 5 minutes, my partner asked that we be seated. We've never had such rude treatment from a host. First he told us that it was not allowed because all food orders needed to be placed simultaneously. We had no intention of ordering until our friends arrived. Then we we were told to sit at the bar and wait. Eventually, with a scowl on her face, a hostess seated us."

  • "Family with teenagers went on Saturday evening after a day of sightseeing. Pros: The server-recommended pizzas and appetizers from the house specialty section of the menu were very good, even the teenagers liked the openers ( eggplant, and peas with pancetta) and the pizza with mussels. All enjoyed the special gelattos (olive oil and creme freche in particular). Cons: Of the 3 pizzas, only the one from the specialty list, the mussel pizza, was memorable. The noise level was uncomfortably loud for our family. Recommend if you a)order what the server recommends, b) like high noise level."

  • "I usually come here with friends for casual group get-togethers (i.e., a birthday, etc) and it's always a fun experience. The apps are awesome (we always order the sformata -not sure if I spelled that right), a bunch of cheeses and a bunch of seafood apps (octopus, yum!). The truffle egg pizza is so good! The pastas are usually just ok. We were happy that the pasta was not crunchy (not al dente, crunchy!) like the last 2 times we were there. The best part of the night is always dessert. 3 words: olive oil gelato!"
