Diner Reviews
  • "We came in to the city for a show and decided to have an early dinner at Otto. My husband and I ordered five items and split each one of them. The cauliflower and beets appetizers were so delicious; the mushroom and taleggio pizza made pizza a special treat; fusilli with sausage and escarole - delightful; the blueberry-almond crumble was perfect; the quartino (we had to have a second) was just the right match. The service was not overwhelming as is often the case in other restaurants - we usually like to go a little more upscale, but this WAS top notch without upscale prices. It was perfect for a date, ladies night out, families,...who wouldn't love eating there? We will be making trips in to the city now just to eat at Otto."

  • "Was there before for end of day pizza and glass of wine and enjoyed it. This time was for dinner and it was full of tourist, loud and fair food. The pizza is the only thing to get there."

  • "Totally disappointed, wine list is excellent, antipasti were good, but the Pizza was undercooked, too much sauce not enough cheese. Spaghetti Carbonara was so salty it was impossible to get down. If Osteria Morini starts making pizza, Otto is done"

  • "Love the small dishes. We had the lentils. Thin crust pizza, peppers and sausage was very good. Save room for the gelato!"

  • "We expected better food from Mario Batali. It was like an overpriced Pizza Hut. The only good food was the dessert."

  • "Its been years since my first time dining here. I had the clam pizza which was pretty awesome but the pastas and sides were good but nothing to write about. The service was pretty good as we asked to be seated in a quiet section (it was pretty quiet in the restaurant overall except for one corner with a rather loud couple). We ate dinner early and as we were leaving, the bar was definitely filling up and the restaurant starting to buzz."

  • "We had pasta and pizza - the truffle spaghetti is seriously amazing! And the pizza with clams is delicious. Great atmosphere, the servers are nice but not always around."

  • "Walked in and it was LOUD! So many people packed in. Full house and this was at 9 on a Sunday night. It calmed down though about 1/2 hour in. Pizza was good. One of the pasta dishes was under cooked, but the waiter removed it from the bill. The fresh pasta dish was excellent. Make sure to share :). Dessert was excellent."

  • "Very big wine list... you will most of the common Italian reds And whites. Service was soso; waiters have an arrogance to them. Food was reasonably priced; which was a big surprise. They were willing to accommodate to my garlic sensitivity; which is hard since sauces are generally pre-made. A great place for friends And long time couples ... not good for kids or a romantic first date; too noisy And cramped."

  • "The staff was rude initially and after an initial cocktail order to waiter ever came to ask how we were doing or if we wanted more drinks. After dinner was cleared we were also brought a bill and never asked if we wanted dessert. I'm not sure why the waiters wanted to go home instead of serve us but the experience was awful. On top of that the food was mediocre, it was not bad, but not good enough to go back even if I lived around the corner. So disappointed."

  • "I did my research about places to eat prior to leaving home and this one was at the top of my list. The restaurant is warm and inviting but too loud for me! I understand that might be a NY thing but yelling across the table to talk with the rest of the people in my party caused me more stress. Not only that but the waiter couldn't understand our questions and we had a difficult time hearing his. The "gourmet" Anchovy pizza was just the right size and was tasty but I wouldn't say it was the "best" pizza I'd ever had. On the other hand the Gelato was fabulous! The portion size was just right and I left feeling full but not stuffed! The decor was interesting but I'd suggest a few acoustical panels to help with the sound level."

  • "We were forgotten a so many times and our waitoe really couldn't be bothered. I think I counted a total of 4 different ppl who took our orders (2 hosts, 2 runners). The only thing our actual waiter brought was the wrong pizza. I hope the other 3 ppl got some of the tip I left."

  • "Been a neighborhood favorite of mine for a while. Service is super friendly and it's worth arriving early to talk with one of the sommeliers who wander the waiting area because their wine-list is very deep. Earlier this week he unearthed a unique (for us at least) Italian Pinot Noir. The pizza is good, but don't miss out on the small plates and pasta"

  • "I had been there a month earlier and both the meal and the service were fantastic! This time, however, the service was so poor that it ruined the evening for us. After waiting for quite some time, the server came to greet us. She was short and not very friendly. We saw her twice more, once to order wine and once to order dinner. The rest of the evening she walked past us but never stopped to check on us, never even poured us another glass of wine. The people who filled the water, delivered our food and cleared our plates were great. And the hostess who delivered our bill was also very nice."

  • "Otto is a delightful restaurant with great wine, food, and a pleasure for big groups. Otto provides impeccable service and will provide you with a great space to enjoy your friends. Highly recommended!"

  • "Not only was the food reasonably priced for the village, it was delicious. Service was excellent and it's a great restaurant for families/kids/groups."

  • "Family with teenagers went on Saturday evening after a day of sightseeing. Pros: The server-recommended pizzas and appetizers from the house specialty section of the menu were very good, even the teenagers liked the openers ( eggplant, and peas with pancetta) and the pizza with mussels. All enjoyed the special gelattos (olive oil and creme freche in particular). Cons: Of the 3 pizzas, only the one from the specialty list, the mussel pizza, was memorable. The noise level was uncomfortably loud for our family. Recommend if you a)order what the server recommends, b) like high noise level."

  • "I've been coming here for 6 years about twice a month easily. I order the same thing usually every time and its always consistent and delicious. I love the wine list I can always find something I like. In-laws loved the food a home run said my father in law!! Thank you so much"

  • "My pet peeve is restaurants that, after a reservation, won't seat partial parties. So we stood, yes, STOOD at the bar, while a waiter, who we could no understand, tried to get us to order a drink. I'm sure this standing bar is supposed to be cool -- it's not. We eventually got seated. Food is good and reasonably priced; service is fine. But the place is way too loud. Our group of 6 couldn't hear each other without really shouting. This is not a delightful experience. Be sure to go here if you like to shout and your full party arrives at the same time. I won't be back."

  • "We love the food. We live in the neighborhood, so most of the time we order for delivery. The pastas, pizzas and vegetables are all wonderful. On this occasion, we invited 2 friends to join us at the restaurant. My partner walks with a cane, and when we arrived, we were told that since our entire party hadn't yet arrived, we needed to wait in the bar area. After standing for about 5 minutes, my partner asked that we be seated. We've never had such rude treatment from a host. First he told us that it was not allowed because all food orders needed to be placed simultaneously. We had no intention of ordering until our friends arrived. Then we we were told to sit at the bar and wait. Eventually, with a scowl on her face, a hostess seated us."

  • "Met friends from out of state and everything was great except the pasta was way undercooked. We had to send it back and it took a very long time for the plate to return. The wine list is great."

  • "Amazing food and quick service at a reasonable price. Last time I was there and the food was taking a little longer then usual (but not long by most standards), they brought us two free desserts to apologize. Pane Frattau is a must try!"

  • "The food here is absolutely unreal. It is SO good I can't even tell you. Everything is top notch, fresh, and lovely. The goat cheese agnolotti is amazing. So is the corn appetizer. And the cucumber radish salad."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Excellent food and the prices are quite reasonable. The decor is kind of boring but overall, not a bad place to hit once in a while. The bathrooms are too small for a place this size. Though the food is super good, it is so loud in there!"

  • "I usually come here with friends for casual group get-togethers (i.e., a birthday, etc) and it's always a fun experience. The apps are awesome (we always order the sformata -not sure if I spelled that right), a bunch of cheeses and a bunch of seafood apps (octopus, yum!). The truffle egg pizza is so good! The pastas are usually just ok. We were happy that the pasta was not crunchy (not al dente, crunchy!) like the last 2 times we were there. The best part of the night is always dessert. 3 words: olive oil gelato!"

  • "Food was badly prepared, the bread (ancient bread, likely to be brought here during Columbus first trip) was tossed on the table with a piece of paper. No olive oi,l no balsamic vinegar. I will never go back again."

  • "I have been to Otto several times. The food and service are always great. I figured if I went there with my husband at 8:45 on a Wednesday night we would be able to have a conversation. Not the case. The noise level in the back room of the restaurant was so loud that we couldn't even hear each other when we were shouting. Go for the food, but not for the ambience unless you like trying to have a conversation next to a jet engine. "

  • "Great food at an awesome value. Only frustration is that they won't let you put something on the side of a dish (like cheese, etc.)."

  • "We went to Otto's for lunch with our two sons. We wanted to try the recommended pizzas and they did not dissappoint. It is a nicer restaurant but we were. It made to feel uncomfortable coming in with children or a bit underdressed. "

  • "Perfect spot for lunch near Washington Square - waitperson not 100% trained or well-versed in the cheese selections but was otherwise very attentive."
    Dined on 6/2/2014
  • "Otto is a favorite of ours. The pizza is fantastic but the sides rock. They are unusually tasty, and not the usual fare. However this is the second time that an issue has occurred and the staff has to be reminded to be solicitous. Two members of our party had wine spilled on them. Not enough was done to make us feel better or cared for. The attitude of the staff seems snotty, and superior."

  • "We made a reservation hoping for a good dinner and a good time but that was some experience! Despite our reservation we waited over an hour for our table and because they kept saying "it'll be 10 minutes" every time we asked, we didn't get any drinks while we waited...but just as well because the place was packed and I think the bartender was about to have an aneurism. The food was alright...nothing to write home about. But that doesn't really matter because the service was awful. It took forever for our waiter to take our order and when we needed him it was always an ordeal. It was upsetting really. I don't think that the food was good enough for me to put myself through that experience again so I probably will not be returning. "

  • "Atmosphere and vibe is fun, cool, upbeat. Food is good (not exquisite) but the price, location and excellent service more than make up for it. We had a fabulous experience."

  • "Despite the fancy wine and (I have to say) good pizza, this place has all the ambiance of a no frills chain restaurant. I've had better service at, well, anywhere. My friend ordered pasta, no garnish just a pile of green noodles in a bowl. Our food was practically thrown at us and our waiter had to have us repeat everything a few times because it was so loud no one could hear anything. "
