Diner Reviews
  • "OTD serves good Vietnamese (Americanized) food. Plenty of variety. Noise level is too loud. A very conveninent place for lunch. Ambience isn't good enough for a quiet, relaxing dinner."

  • "Found OTD listing on "Open Table" and after reading the reviews, thought we would try it. We were surprised by the excellent food and the service. Their street signage is almost non-existing, so make sure you have the address. We will certainly return. "

  • "I come here mostly every sunday and every time I do come staff is wonderful. The food is excellent all the time. The manager is so friendly and nice. I always sit up at the bar and the bartender is always pleasant and nice! He is just wonderful. I will be back actually this sunday for Easter."

  • "My partner and I were very excited to come to OTD for date night dinner. But overall, we had a pretty negative experience. We didn't get our entrees until abut 55 minutes after being seated. Furthermore, this didn't seem to be an issue to any of the staff, including our waitress, who never apologized for the delay or even acknowledged it. The noise level was so loud it was it was distracting. My companion and I we were literally SHOUTING at each other, but I still had to ask "WHAT?" every time he said something. The food was...fine. Nothing special, didn't really feel worth the price. Due to the above issues, we passed on dessert and hit up the frozen yogurt place on Fillmore instead."

  • "The food at OTD is very, very good. However, OTD is not a place to linger over the food or have any conversation."

  • "The food at OTD continues to be fantastic. I love the flavors and freshness - yum. But acoustics certainly were not a consideration when they built this place, MUCH to the detriment of the enjoyment of their guests. This was my first trip to OTD for dinner in years, and now I know why (lunch is a bit less deafening). If anyone in your group is at all sensitive to noise or hard of hearing, I'd have to recommend a pass - would be unfortunate to miss the food, but it would be too unpleasant for them. This is not a place to have an enjoyable dinner where you can talk to your companions. Service remains spotty - very dependent upon your server. Ours was friendly and knowledgeable but a bit slow and inattentive. But oh the food!"

  • "The food, service and ambience are adequate, but all one full step below Slanted Door standards. Frankly, I worry that Mr. Phan has become stretched a bit thin... Nonetheless, the basics are sound, so with some thoughtful attention to managing this restaurant, it could be really an excellent spot in the Fillmore Street zone."

  • "Still creates excellent food, might want to mix up entrees more. Brunch is totally different and you should try it, we were delighted."

  • "Have dined here numerous times and taken out even more. As always , the food is superb. But I've come to expect that I won't find a wine to my liking and was not surprised this visit. Don't know why- I'm not that hard to please having an appreciation for many varieties and styles."

  • "Great small restaurant that just has awesome food-had the prawns and a few appetizers and it was just awesome"
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "dining here due to incredible noise level even after moving tables with help of amenable staff. My ears still test adequate but my friend and I could hardly converse.. on the verge of headaches."

  • "Great services, excellent food. Love this place too much."

  • "OTD has never failed me. When Slanted Door is booked, I'll head here or when I don't feel like dealing with too many tourists at the Ferry Building. My faves include: Cellophane noodles with crab, veggie imperial rolls, pork belly appetizer, mung bean dumplings and fried chicken with sriracha butter."

  • "Great food. Salt and Pepper Calamari so good. Hostess was so nice, waiter was great too. Lovely place to get a bit in the neighborhood."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "Even though majority of the patrons of this restaurant are not Asian, this restaurant does churn out good Vietnamese food. Prices are higher than your typical Vietnamese restaurant but you also get the ambience and better ingredients. The service was very nice and quality of food is good. The only thing lacking is a full bar - they only offer wine and beer for alcohol."

  • "This is our third time getting together with friends and relatives for Sunday brunch during our visits to the Bay Area. The menu is great. Beignets!!!! French press coffee! Interesting pancakes, french toast, bread pudding, and the usual Vietnamese lunch favorites. I had egg white scramble with kale and mushrooms and sunchokes. So much fun. Wait staff is friendly and informative. We will return."

  • "no place captures the brilliance and freshness of asian inspired cuisine better than these folks. the food is exceptional, the vibe great, the setting lovely. my favorite place for a casual dinner out when in SF. wish it were in boston!!!"

  • "Went for brunch. Small menu which was not overly interesting. Above average food preparation. Very poor service. Shared starter course arrived three minutes before main dishes. Waiteress, who rarely shopwedup, was annoyed that we were not yet ready."

  • "The food is outstanding, good service. The tables are very close and the noise level is very high."

  • "Having eaten at OTD several times in the past I was expecting a satisfying tasty lunch. However, the food was uninspiring: the daikon rice cake was heavy and dense, the noodles, cellophane, rice and egg, were overcooked and oily, and the cauliflower, although seasoned well was undercooked and lacking tastiness."
    Dined on 2/5/2014
  • "The food at OTD is consistently good, I am never disappointed. The food has an asian influence and is meant to be shared. The noise level is pretty loud. The service is usually good, this time it was a little off the mark."

  • "I had brunch there and selected some items that I did not know anything about and was very pleasantly surprised. Everything was just excellent and very tasty. I also enjoyed the way the waitress answered our various questions - knowledgeable and friendly. I am looking forward to my next visit."

  • "Great food, great service, awesome staff. Very accommodating with last minute reservation change. Great customer service. Janice is a gem."

  • "The food was excellent. We had carpaccio, slow cooked ribs, shanghai dumplings, etc. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the noise level. Somehow the acoustic in the restaurant didn't agree with me, and it felt like noise was too much at times."

  • "It is great for lunch two weeks ago. Then I just went for dinner and I was a little disappointed with a few of the dishes. The snap peas were cooked to perfection. The cellophane crab dish was great but the pappaya salad needed more dressing or flavor. Desserts were better when Slanted Door was on Valencia. The ambience and service is great. We went on a Sunday, not sure if it makes a difference."

  • "I liked Otd better than Slanted Door. Less rushed and crowded. Our waitress spent time giving recommendations and wine samples. Food comes quickly and service is great. Love the small wineries they pick. And the food is terrific. Don't miss the Brussels sprouts!"

  • "It's very a nice restaurant, a different but good place for brunch, and the best, you don't have to line up for hours, it's not crowded, something I appreciate. A kind of exotic menu and the steak is the best I have tried since I am in San Francisco."

  • "Ended up a OTD because we couldn't get a reservation at Slanted Door. Next time, I'll just book at OTD. It has better food and service, and there is a less hype than Slanted Door."

  • "Kitchen was "off" our night Squid very dry, little flavor to carpaccio. Main courses fine. This was a repeat visit. First time much More enjoyable"

  • "While the ambiance and portion size seem better at Slanted Door, OTD is a delicious, hip option for a night out. The menu includes many of the same Phan-favorite dishes. The decor is a minimalist industrial chic and, as such, the noise bounces off the hard floors and walls making it a bit difficult to have an intimate conversation, but adding to the energy and vibrancy of this restaurant."

  • "Delicious and noisy. Great Service. Can't go wrong on the menu. Great for sharing plates, and generous portions."
