  • "This was a terrific dinner. I and a colleague split the Branzino for two. Absolutely remarkable. It takes 40 min, which worried me for a who baked fish, but it was light, moist and absolutely remarkable. The grilled octopus app was a good amount of octopus (usually it isn't enough), but it had slightly too much olive oil, so I'd put it down one notch as just very good. The warm chocolate cake dessert went back up to compete with the best that I've had in this category. Overall, it was a terrific dinner."

The evening was topped off with listening to the incredible piano performance by Misha in the bar area and a surprise dessert in celebration of our anniversary. Over the top! We will be back!!"

  • "This was the first time we visited Ostra and we will definitely be back! The food was excellent, the service very friendly and fast, and the restaurant ambience very pleasant. The only minor complaint I have is that, even though we were a party of three, we sat in a small table more appropriate for a party of two. The restaurant was full, so I imagine that was the only table they had available, but it was a bit crowded once they brought the bread and wine. However, the rest of the experience was so good that the problem with the table size was quickly forgotten."

  • "First visit to the place. Proximity to the hotel as well as very favorable reviews prompted the reservation. Overall, outstanding dining experience. Great ambiance. Place was quiet despite being occupied @ 70-80% on a Sunday evening. Food was simply great. Very fresh seafood. Tuna carpaccio, hamachi, oysters were all very fresh and well prepared. Sea bream was very well executed, with just enough of sides to complement it. Just a right amount of food on the plate. Blueberry tart with corn ice cream and especially trio of sorbets were pure fun on a palate. Very successful flavor combos on sorbets. Excellent restaurant. Well worth a visit. Will be back."

Both the food and service were outstanding, and the decor was a nice improvement over the previous tenant of that space, it made the restaurant feel much roomer. The paella and salt cured lemon grilled branzino are musts, and there's so much more to try on the next visit."

  • "Creative and attractively presented food in a beautiful room made for a memorable evening. We tried smoked salmon appetizer which arrives under a little dome that releases the smoke when it's lifted--a delightful presentation; also hamachi which was flavorful and a bit spicy. For main dishes we split the salt-crusted bandino for two--it was tender, moist, and delicious. Desserts were the two chocolate offerings which were rich and excellent, accompanied by cappuccinos. Service was outstanding--knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are high, and there aren't many reasonably priced wines on the wine list. Highly recommended."

  • "Went to Ostra for dinner. The place is gorgeous in a New York sort of way, unbelievable ambience! The service was lovely, although the food took took long. The food itself was less impressive, especially considering the astronomical prices. The salmon tartar was fairly tasteless except for the caviar on top, so was the bread which seemed underbaked. My salmon entree was tasteless as well, although the fish quality was very good. My date's sword fish was delicious, he said. So, I don't think I would go there again, but it was certainly an interesting experience."

  • "I don't often order fish, but this was special. A whole fish covered in salt and baked (for 2), outstanding! Ambience - I loved the decor, the lighting, the whole thing. Service - The service was good Value - My only complaint is the value on the portions. The appetizers and first course portions were very small. The portion on the wine was embarrassing. I asked the server and his reply was weak (3oz. to 4 oz. pour), he stated that mine was closer to 3oz and my wives closer to 4oz., what?"

  • "The room is gorgeous, even down to the plates, cutlery and espresso cups. The service is impeccable. The staff is knowledgeable and there exactly when you need them and the meal is served at a lovely pace. But most importantly the food is delicious. The expert preparation uses interesting ingredients that always allow the fresh seafood to be the shining ingredient. One note - the cost of valet parking is (with tip) about the same as the garage across the street and much easier."

  • "The chef is like a maestro of symphony. He blended flavors together in a unique way that only a true artist could do. We are foodies and have an opportunity to eat in many high end restaurants all over US. This was one of the best experiences we have ever had. We started with three different appetizers: salmon tartar smoked under a dome (amazing!!!), tuna tartar with mushrooms (very good), grilled octopus (little salty). We decided on the signature dish as our shared entree, salt crusted baked Bronzino. We had never had anything like it and it was out of this world. One of the servers is a level 1 sommelier and he guided us to a great new Italian wine. The service and food were outstanding."

  • "We chose Ostra because we were looking to have a nice dinner prior to seeing a show in the theatre district. I'd been to Mistral before and Ostra looked interesting. The service was outstanding. Stephen, our server, started the evening off right by asking what our plans were for the evening to make sure that he timed our meal well (so as not to be late for the show). He recommended a great wine for our meal and the food was outstanding. We started with oysters on the half shell (2 of each), I had the beet salad (amazing), my son had the swordfish and my 5-year-old daughter had the calamari. The desserts, all of which were paired with homemade ice cream, were also fantastic. I recommend the blueberry tart or the rice pudding brule."

  • "The food here was wonderful! My husband and I enjoyed the calamari to start, I ordered the salmon with a side of truffle fries and he had the seafood paella. We loved everything and the service was very good, as well. The seating was a little close together along the wall, but we were seated just as the table next to us was wrapping up and the table did not fill again until we were about done. I highly recommend this place for a romantic night out for two!"

  • "Another smash hit from this group! This restaurant was superb in every way. The decor is striking and very unusual. The staff is extremely friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, and relating with everyone was very comfortable. The food was innovative, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious, starting with the potato wrapped bread to the kale with Caesar dressing (best Caesar I've had in years), to the Sea Bream, to a delightfully gooey chocolate dessert. This was my first experience with sea bream, and it won't be my last - it may have been the best fish I've ever had the pleasure to eat!!! You cannot go wrong with your experience at Ostra"

  • "Ostra was a huge disappointment. For a restaurant billed as Boston's answer to Le Bernadin, I can say this restaurant doesn't come close (I dined at Le Bernadin recently). The service is average, the ambiance is anything but refined and the food variable. The seafood in my wife's pallela was overcooked, although I must say my halibut was delicious. Desert was tasty (rhubarb tart and Thai rice pudding brulee). The hamachi appetizer was tasty, but I had to ask for a spoon to scoop up the broth. I was surprised by the absence of a tasitng menu. The wine list is rather pricey--one needed to search for good wines under $100. There was also the sense of being rushed through dinner. OVerall, not worth the price."

  • " I think this is the first "rate my experience" that I have given five stars to. The food was fantastic the waitstaff great & atmosphere beautiful. We started with Oysters, Hamachi, Yellow Tail Tartar and Grilled Octopus and they all were delicious and not huge appetizers. For dinner I had the Halibut and My husband had the Beream again they were fantastic. The other couple in our party had the Bronzino salt encrusted fish which was for two and needed 40min to cook. The presentation of this fish was beautiful and served at the table. It was FANTASTIC. We returned for dessert which again was delicious. Highly recommend this Resturant. We will be returning!"

  • "I hosted my in-laws and family from out of town for a celebration here and the service and food were both excellent. I goofed and made the reservation for the wrong week, didn't realize it until 15 minutes before I thought I had made it. The staff was very helpful and accommodating and shifting things around to fit us. The food was excellent. The vibe was great, but a bit more trendy/noisey than perhaps my in laws were used to. Oh well, they got to enjoy/experience a vibrant, contemporary fine dining experience. Would definitely recommend this place as a date spot."

  • "I took my wife on a Saturday night date to Ostra. We had a drink in the piano lounge where the seating was great, the piano player terrific and the martinis ice cold. We had a great table in a niche banquette (of which there were several) and although seated against the back wall, I did not have to face the wall. The service was a perfect balance of total attentiveness falling blessedly short of intrusiveness. The manager stopped by the lounge to welcome us and during dinner to check on us, like we were regulars (but it was our first visit to Ostra!). The star of the show is the food, again a perfect balance of freshness and inventiveness that avoided crossing into overblown weirdness. Ostra is our new favorite restaurant in Boston."

  • "Outstanding service from an extremely helpful, cordial and knowledgeable waitstaff. Sea bass tartare was phenomenal and the gnochetti was incredible. The potato bread with butter and dipping sauce was great as well. My girlfriend had the halibut which was very tasty. I ordered the Paella which was at first overcooked. However, our server brought it back to the kitchen and brought me out a new plateful which was delicious. Very exceptional service the whole meal and great suggestions from the waiter. "
