Diner Reviews
  • "Ive been going to the San Antonio Riverwalk for years and have stumbled by this place and never took the time to look as most of these places have mediocre "tourist" food at best! Was I ever wrong!! This place has an extremely diversified menu to please anyone and service of a 5 star restaurant. From the blackened redfish sandwich @ lunch to the dinner special of "porgy", a fish I've never heard of, it was all perfect... 2 times dining with a total of 9 people, we found NO flaws with any dish. Not only will I return, I've begun to "spread the word" by mouth to all my friends! See you guys again when I return... and thanks for the culinary memories."

  • "Great location, the ambience was perfect also added bonus, if you like to people watch dining outside us perfect. Our server Jesse never let our needs go unattended. Staff made a special night memorable!"

  • "We reserved an indoor table by a window to celebrate our anniversary. We were placed outside right under the masses of punks pouring by with their body piercings (festerings) and tattoos everywhere including private areas. The host was not kind in giving us this table. Food was as average as having gone to one of the chain restaurants on the river walk. The smells were atrocious. My redfish was below average and the size of a child's palm; husband's steak was mediocre at best. Really, just horrible. We couldn't leave the table quickly enough. I'm very honest in my reviews. Trust me, this is not the place for upscale dining, or even an above average experience if you have taste."

  • "We reserved a spot and were able to get a table outside for the Spurs Championship parade. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They were also very understanding that people getting a table there were staying for the parade. There was a $75 minimum per adult, but that was more reasonable for the occasion than other restaurants who were charging that for adults and $25-50 per child also (we came with our two kids). The food was tasty and seemed fresh. I had the halibut which I highly recommend. Great place to eat especially if the weather is cooperating and you want to sit outside. Even with the heat, there is enough shade to make it tolerable."

  • "We took visitors to the Riverwalk for dinner and had a delicious meal. The seafood was well presented and fresh. Service was accommodating although this is not a place for a quick meal. The restaurant is located on a lovely, less crowded part of the Riverwalk and the outdoor dining is great. We enjoyed the Sancerre wine but the wine list in general was fairly expensive. Free valet parking at the Mokara is a plus."

  • "I ws in San Antonio for business looking for a place for dinner when i walked by Ostra. I stopped in early in the evening and was pleasantly surprised over the quality of my meal. The food was so good i decided that rather than take a chance on a new place I would stick with something i knew and went back the second evening. The meal was just as good as my firs experience. Service was excellent on both occasions. "

  • "We were looking for a nice breakfast place before heading to the airport. They provided great service, good food, and good prices. One of the best Eggs Benedict in recent memory."

  • "Great service and very friendly staff. The best shrimp scampi I have ever had. "

  • "We booked this based on TripAdvisor reviews and because it was in our hotel. This was our anniversary dinner but everything about it was just average, although we enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the weather. The lump crab appetizer seemed like it had been frozen and thawed out; texture was not indicative of fresh crab. Thankfully, our server warned us off two of the desserts. Definitely overpriced for the quality. Good cocktails."

  • "We were impressed from the moment, we entered until the moment we left! I am so glad that I happened upon this restaurant. What a find! "

  • "Nice breezy (usually) area of the Riverwalk. The only negative is the pedestrian flow (with lit cigarettes and crying babies) is very close to the outdoor tables."

  • "Loved the restaurant- we will come back to try the hotel next visit to San Antonio"

  • "Lovely, quiet area along Riverwalk with impeccable service, beautifully prepared and inspiring food with inspiring southwest flavors, this is the special place to dine. Enjoy!"

  • "Fabulous meal on this first-time visit for all in our party. We ordered several appetizers for the table and they were excellent. Entrees kept the bar high! Excellent service. Only regret is that we all were in town for a meeting and don't know when we might be able to return."

  • "A great spot with a scenic view for brunch. Richard was very welcoming and accomodating. They have gluten-free options, but you must have a full entree on Sundays to enjoy any adult beverages."

  • "The food was good, ambience was good, service was very attentive, accomodating and professional. Wine list was lacking. Food price is on the higher end for the riverwalk, cooked just right with sauces and sides you wont find anywhere else in the vicinity. But I wasnt blown away. Ambience was good for a romantic dinner with my girlfriend, could have used dimmer lights however. I felt it was more a celebration of money than food in the end. Paid a lot but didnt walk away feeling deeply satisfied for it."

  • "Food was good, waiter fine and friendly. I just think they could work on the wow factor as far as the food goes - wow the taste buds and make it a must repeat instead of a once and go."

  • "We go here (usually more than once) each time we visit San Antonio and we LOVE it! It's great for the kids. The staff is very accommodating and super friendly (sometimes not the most attentive) but we're always on vacation so not too worried about it. :) We always sit outside and enjoy the river, but this past trip it was Easter and sprinkling so they gave our party of 4 adults/3 children a private room inside, which was great for our wild ones. We will be back again and again."

  • "Ostra was a nice experience. The Oysters were fresh an the Quality / Price ratio very good!. Very attentive and professional service and the wine selection is appropriate and varied. Don/t miss it!"

  • "I ordered a filet medallion and received an over cooked sirloin. The lobster was over done as well. The drinks were less than average. The service was slow. The waiter tried to sell certain items on the menu. The overall experience was not pleasant at all. Especially for the prices. I have been there twice and that's enough."

  • "Great seafood on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Unique menu with great taste and presentation. Food, service, and ambiance were all perfect. Of course the company of my future wife made it even better!"

  • "The food and service are always great at Ostra, but when the weather is nice and you can sit outside by the Riverwalk the experience is nearly perfect. I love that the cocktail and dinner menu changes as well as the oysters available when they're in season. This is a great place to eat and valet your car if you are going to a show at The Majestic. No need to pay to park when your valet ticket gets validated by the restaurant (but I always tip the valet)."

  • "Unable to get a table when we walked up to the restaurant as it was fully booked for the day (even half of the restaurant was empty). However, I was able to use Opentable to reserve a table at about the same time and then walked up there and get seated. I would highly recommend to reserve the table with OT if you want to go there."

  • "We had a terrific time at Ostra. While the entire experience stands out, the food was by far the biggest hit. We ordered the special for the evening, which was tuna. Divine. We put s pecial order in for wilted spinach, and they took care of us with delicious greens. Service was superb. And we were able to dine outdoors along the Riverwalk which made for a very romantic evening."

  • "We ate at Ostra on a Friday evening. The food was delicious and well presented, but at the prices, we expected everything to be a little unique. The crab cake was delicious, but pricey for a single cake. The spinach salad was good, but simple and small for the price. We both had the salmon with sweet potato hash. The salmon was properly cooked and was moist. The flavor of the hash was delicious with the pancetta, but became a little monotonous. We felt that the prices were about 20-30% too high for what we received, even considering that it is a hotel restaurant on the Riverwalk. The wines by the glass were very limited. Service was excellent. We did return for the buffet brunch on Sunday and had a great meal at a very reasonable price."

  • "They had a valentines day menu.. While good, 2 courses should not come out to $60 each. And the 3rd course is a shared plate of chocolates.. The wine pairing for this special menu equated to 32.. Each. 3 glasses. We skipped the wine. Now I get that most restaurants put out a valentines day menu, while good, was not worth $60 a piece."

  • "Wonderful experience. Plenty of time between courses to "dine" but not too much time to be "slow". Veal/crab special outstanding. Unfortunately bad weather prevented us from enjoying the patio seating on the. Riverwalk. Great service. We will be back!"

  • "Excellent spot for food and conversation. The bar service was rather slow and the ceasar salad was underwhelming but everything else was pretty magnificent."

  • "We've been going to Ostra for a few years and never had a bad experience. The food is very good but for us the service is always the high light! Each occasion starts with Richard greeting us at the door and the personal attention from all the staff just continues all during our stay. On our latest visit I had the daily black board special, a nice filet of flounder with lump crab, my wife had a seabass filet. Both were excellent and, of course, the personal attention of Carla and George made the meal that much more enjoyable."

  • "As always, (we have been here several times) it was outstanding, Service was superb, food extremely awesome, ambiance of course is great as you sit right on the riverwalk. We will be back"

  • "The food was on point. I had the red fish (Palacios, TX), other guest had the prime rib, short ribs, and shrimp scampi. All were very good dishes. The only flaw was that the shrimp in the scampi were almost small enough to be salad shrimp, but flavor and presentation were both great. We started with gulf coast, east coast, and Canadian (east coast) oysters and they were thoroughly enjoyable. The wine list was great and had plenty of standard choices with some nice finds here and there. Good price point for wine novice and wine experts alike. Overall it was a nice meal and dining experience. Would recommend to friends."

  • "This was our first time dining at Ostra and had a wonderful time. The staff was very polite and timely while our food was incredible. The roasted mushrooms are a must for any shroom-lover. If the weather is nice, then you can enjoy a meal outside along the Riverwalk."

  • "I usually love this restaurant, especially for the fresh fish and healthy preparations after looking at the menu online, I took a coworker here, for dinner, and what a mistake. The restaurant was empty (not a good sign on the Riverwalk), and the service was also empty. The food was swimming in sauces and the whole, grilled fish that I wanted is no longer on the menu. My fish was over done, and my coworker's dish was under seasoned. I'm not sure what has happened to the place, but I will not be returning."

  • "We had breakfast and dinner at Ostra. Can't beat the setting. Staff was very attentive. Food was really good but still a step below some of the top restaurants. We really enjoyed breakfast in particular because the buffet was good and the riverwalk was so peaceful. Definitely sit outside if there's a table available."
