  • "One of the best restaurant experiences. The food was incredible - I had the sea bass tartare followed by the grilled fish bream with seasonal vegetables. For dessert I had the Snow egg. The sauvignon blanc was excellent as well as the espresso macchiato to end the meal. Can't wait to go again but not soon since it is very expensive!!"

  • "Great food and service. Shocked I had never heard about it. Seafood is excellent. Example of service is I spilled some water in my plate. They offered to re cook the fish! Even though I said no need, they took it away and replated on a hot plate and made a new side dish! Will definitely go back."

  • "The lobster gnocchetti and tuna tartare were delicious and we will definitely venture back to sit at the bar and indulge with these as appetizers. The entrees were all a bit disappointing. The cod was bland. My husband had the salmon which was a tad overcooked. We left feeling a bit underwhelmed despite the hype of this restaurant."

  • "Sorellina is my favorite restaurant in Boston and Mistral is my typical neighborhood go to, so I was really looking forward to trying Ostra, their new sister restaurant. Unfortunately I was totally underwhelmed by the food. Ordered the octopus and it was burnt instead of charred. All you could taste was charcoal. Ordered the salmon medium rare and I got the most overcooked, driest, and the most tasteless salmon I ever tried. Needless to say couldn't eat either of my dishes. The desert was great though, luckily, as I was starving at that point. I know it's a fairly new restaurant but it doesn't at all meet the standard of the other three sister restaurants, and totally disappointing for a new hot spot I was looking forward to."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday - the food was absolutey terrific. We can say we have never had better oysters - EVER. They were delicious and beautifully presented with all the accompaniments. Service was attentive and friendly. The menu is wonderful (changes every so often) with many fish options and steak as well. The presentation of the food is just so special."

  • "Appetizers were better than main courses, so one plan would be to order only appetizers. Curiously, the menu offers only one pasta dish; although good, it's not outstanding. The wine list is weighted to the very expensive, with only a few reasonably priced bottles. From Debra First's review, we expected a better experience, but she did warn us that it's noisy. Indeed."

  • "If you are looking for beautiful, flavorful, outstanding seafood this is the place to go. The hamachi appetizer and sea bass tartare were so tasty, my husband and I had to switch plates half way through to enjoy both dishes. There were so many great options so we also split the octopus which was amazing. The grilled sea bream was everything I anticipated and was delicious. Our server was awesome and enhanced the experience too. The restaurant itself is elegant yet very comfortable...can't wait to go back!"

  • "This is a beautiful setting--well designed and fab chandeliers. Service was friendly, albeit quite slow. Food was very professional except that our fish dishes were a bit off-- one woefully overcooked, the other almost raw. It's a bit pricey but the quality is there."

  • "We had theater tix for 7:30, so made 5:30 reservation. arrived at 5:30 and were asked to wait and order drinks(?). Waited at least 15 minutes before we were seated. There were 1/2 dozen couples already seated! Informed our server that we had theater and wanted to be out by 7. Fast forward through nice, but somewhat rushed dinner, it was 7:05, no check, no server to be found (no time for coffee or dessert, either), finally got waiter's attention and rushed to pay and get to theatre. Poorly organized and executed for a premium restaurant in the theatre district. Not the wonderful experience we were expecting for a birthday dinner treat. Rewind - sea bass carpaccio was excellent - paella so-so."

  • "This new restaurant is beautiful, and so is the bar! The fried oyster appetizer was delicious, and so was the salmon tartare appetizer. My husband enjoyed his paella. A few people ordered the Bronzino which is cooked whole and then prepared table side. I got a sirloin steak, it was good but not amazing although it was a prime sirloin. The cauliflower and mushrooms sides were very tasty as were the truffle fries."

  • "We had reservations on Sunday 3/16/14. I really like the area the restaurant is in. When you walk in, its energetic. The hostess who found out it was our anniversary sat us at a corner table. We started with the salmon tartar and the U-12 shrimp which was good. The presentation for the salmon tartar was amazing. Then we had the lamb osso bucco and the prime sirloin which was very good. They brought us a dessert for our anniversary which was nice and unexpected. I would return to this restaurant when I am back in Boston."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit to Ostra. A great space with wonderful decor. Our food was prepared perfectly and, while I would recommend a visit, I do have two suggestions to improve the restaurant. We found the selection of fish to be limited. I know that what they can offer is dependent on what comes into our port but I hope they expand the menu to include some of the tasty but underappreciated fish from our waters (Hake, anyone?). My second nit-pick is the winelist. Extensive as it is it does not offer enough in a more moderately priced range. This being said I highly recommend Ostra for special occasions or to complement a vist to the Theatre District."

  • "Food is good but for this price I would expect more than just good food. Also my Halibut was even a little bit dry. The flavors are solid but there wasn't even one dish that was exciting. No new flavors that would cause me to crave a dish and come again. The hostess were pretty rude, the rest of the service was good but not exceptional. The restaurant space is nice but too loud. So to sum it up, good but too expensive and I wouldn't return. You can find good food in Boston for cheaper price and a better atmosphere."

  • "The food was some of the best we've had, so it was unfortunate that the service was not so impressive. The decor/design of the space is gorgeous, and everything from the bread/butter, to the appetizers, entrees, desserts and coffee were fantastic. The service was lacking, however, from start to finish - slow and jumbled, being served by at least five different people at different times, and sometimes all at once. With regard to waitstaff appearance, the waiters did not seem well-schooled and most had their shirt collars pulled open, giving a less than polished appearance; it is a shame that at such a beautiful restaurant, the manager does not enforce a stricter dress code -at least of shirts being buttoned and worn w a tie and/or vest."

  • "Absolutely gorgeous dining experience -- one of the best we've had in Boston (and we love to eat). Try not to faint when you get the tab: it'll be breathtaking too. The wine list is aggressively priced, but it has some decent selections if you really know what you're doing. One thing I didn't love is that they did not send over the sommelier, even upon request. Good thing we knew what we were doing, but it's not fair to others and it does not make sense. Service was also surprisingly slow for a cold, non-busy Tuesday night. That said, the seafood was marvelously fresh and beautifully presented, the desserts were just spectacular, the room was lovely (if you like austerity), and the manager, Alex, is a very gracious and likeable host."

  • "Ostra served us excellent fish (flown in fresh from around the world) and provided outstanding service in a contemporary setting with classy live piano music which created just the right amount of elegance and energy. The wine list was extensive, the beet salad was a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds. The fish was cooked to perfection and the rice brulee and tres leches parfait were heavenly. This was a perfect setting to celebrate my wife's birthday. This establishment is expensive but they deliver the value. Save up and come experience Ostra!"

  • "the menu sounds great but items are hit or miss. the jonah crab salad needs more flavor, it is very bland but in contrast the snap pea salad had way too much dressing. the skate wing is excellent. many of the other fishes had too much oil used in preparation. hopefully will improve with time."

  • "I loved my meal at Ostra, starting with my cocktail at the bar. We had the serrano ham starter, then being the little piggies we are, we had starters at the table as well. The crispy oysters were STELLAR, but the others were also excellent. All the entrees at our table were remarkable. I had the sea bream -- beautifully cooked, delicate flavor, and the veggies that accompanied it were divine. The salmon at our table was also apparently cooked perfectly, and the lamb osso bucco was devoured. Desserts were really special too. Small portions, which I like after a heavy meal, but absolutely lick every morsel and drop perfect. Decor was lovely, service was excellent... really a perfect experience. Bravo."

  • "Service was excellent, and sound level ok until restaurant filled up. It was finally fatiguing. Fried calimari ordinary. Skate wing was greasy, looked terrible, although it started as a good piece of fish. Halibut was very good but ruined by overly salty mushrooms on plate. Some vegetables with the entrees would have helped. Desserts very good, but ice cream came with caramel wafer which was very salty and even gave a salty taste to some of the ice cream. Too bad - someone in the kitchen is not paying attention to what goes out. The wines by the glass were excellent and reasonable. The prices seemed to promise much better food. Won't go back."

  • "Grabbing dinner before a show we went to Ostra for convenience. I was so pleasantly surprised at the delicious meal we had…from the amazing Tuna tartare, to the outstanding halibut! I was so disappointed to have to rush out of there to catch the show. I would've loved to stay and have dessert!"

  • "This was our third visit to Ostra. As usual the food was very good and the service and ambience wonderful. Serrano ham and cheese appetizer was delicious and plentiful. The signature paella was quite good but a little dry. Our wines were excellent. Branzino special was ample and well prepared. The meringue "egg" dessert was unusual and terrific. No problems, right? Well, this is a VERY expensive restaurant, and at these prices I would expect excellence in all areas. We will try again and report back."

  • "We are big fans of Mistral, Sorellina, Teatro, Landana, and Mooo, so we were really excited to try Ostra! We were not disappointed! The restaurant is gorgeous! The food and service were great, too! We split a salmon tartare and a tuna tartare. I liked the salmon better, but both were good! My friend had the sea bream, and she said it was delicious! I had a prime sirloin which was juicy and tasty! We split a side of amazing mushrooms! We had the chocolate dessert and cappuccinos ! We highly recommend this restaurant!"
