When the waitress mentioned that for the family meal we could just have the first two sections we chuckled and said - oh no, we want it all. Boy - so much food and so delicious. The winter salad was perfection - the tastes were fresh and crisp. Not too much dressing but enough for it to be delicious. The other starters were stars as well. Then came the pasta....homemade with delicious sauce. Then the fork tender ribeye for me and the pork shank for my dining partner. We chuckled in a different way - we were so full but it looked so delicious. They sent us home with leftovers of the entrees and brussels sprouts - the best breakfast ever for the next day. This will certainly be on the top of our list for every visit to Chicago. On previous visits we had their thin crust pizza. Delicious and light enough for a wonderful dinner as well.

This is "serviceable" Italian, but given the wide range of Italian choices in Chicago, this LEYE venue just doesn't stack up. However, kudos on the wine list.

We booked our table a couple of weeks in advance and anxiously anticipated trying this obviously sought after restaurant. We were on time for our reservation and had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated, the wait is not particularly pleasant as there was no space at the bar and the wait stand overlooks the crowded casual eating area of the restaurant. Once seated however, the service was pleasant, professional and prompt. The roasted garlic in olive oil, served to accompany the bread was heavenly. the Caesar salad was crisp and nicely dressed, the beet and Gorgonzola salad was nicely presented and very good. And the grilled baby octopus was tender and delicious. Duck ragout over Pappardelle was rich; salmon and parsnip puree delicious.

Destiny was our waitress and she is always great. The veal meatballs are awesome. Short rib risotto is always good. We have been here many times and it is always good. I was there for my birthday, but the reason I was disappointed is, I have ordered the pasta with duck ragu a few times before and it has always been outstanding. Not impressed at all this time. It was almost all pasta, which was ok, but I could barely find any duck or sauce. It was dry with almost no meat. I dared my wife to find the duck meat and she couldn't. It was never that way before, so I was truly disappointed with that, especially on my birthday when I was looking so forward to it. I will come back because we have enjoyed so man times before.

Can't say enough about what a great night we had at Osteria. The food was amazing, the ambiance is great (love the lighting), and our server, Mark, was FANTASTIC. We had 4 adults and 2 tweens -- everyone loved it and it made our weekend in the city special. I was worried that a big restaurant in the loop attached to a hotel was going to feel a little packaged, but this felt warm and neighborhood-y and authentic. Loved it.

My party of 3 arrived 30 minutes early for reservation of 9:10 on Friday night so we sat at bar for drinks and appetizers. The dining room got backed up and after an hour we gave up and finally went to sidewalk table where only pizza was available. Food was still good and weather was great for outdoor dining. Just hate we missed the full menu options.

This was my first time here. While I was annoyed initially because the hostess wouldn't seat me until my friend arrived, once we were seated the service from our waitress was great. There were some amazing food choices and our waitress suggested some specials that we tried. Everything is very rustic, but the food was quite good overall.

My husband and I were in Chicago for the 2014 Bank of America Marathon and had dinner at Osteria Via Stato some days prior to the marathon. We found it a great location, had some very good pasta and the waiter was very friendly. Marathoners were even welcomed with a nice message outside the restaurant. The place was well filled and although there was quite some noice, this was not disturbing at all. As it had been my husband's birthday the day before and mine on the day we went to Osteria Via Stato, we got treated to a nice piece of birthday cake. Very thoughtfull!

This restaurant was attached to our hotel and I really wanted Italian for the 3rd day in a row (I love it). The food was very good and very filling - we did the family dinner which comes with several courses. This was the second restaurant we went to in Chicago where the servers just seems to want to do the basic job and not really interact with us - not mentioning specials or anything. I tend to talk to the server about what they like or recommend, and I had questions about how exactly the family dinner worked, and it seemed to me that I was being irritating.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend, and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The restaurant is divided into a pizzeria and a fancier restaurant, and I really wish we had gone to the pizzeria instead. My main complaint is with the service. There's nothing worse when you're just grabbing dinner than feeling like you're being pressured into ordering more food. Our waiter was very pushy and seemed put off when we ordered ala carte rather than the "special" which involved more dishes. I also don't feel like it was very authentic. In general we left feeling dissatisfied and ripped off.

We were in Chicago for a conference so we can only report one meal. Wonderful crusty bread was brought to the table along with carmelized garlic in oil. Excellent! Meatball appetizer was very good. Short rib was great but my husband's pasta was very dry- not so good. There is a prix fixe available but we weren't interested. We did take advantage of a wine flight. There were 2 offered- both 1 white and 2 reds. One was $25, other was $50. We did the $25. We enjoyed the first two and really disliked the last. There was a convention in town (reportedly 100,000 attendees) at the same time. I can't help but think this affected the restaurant scene.

The food is delicious here! Would definitely go again and would absolutely recommend it! My friend and I shared 3 dishes (spinach ravioli in brown butter sauce, penne pasta with red sauce and chicken, and my personal fave the gnocchi). All three were so good! The ravioli portion was a little small compared to the other dishes. The gnocchi was so delicious. Creamy and light and tasted divine! We also has the chocolate tart. Very rich, perfect to share! The Italian cosmos were refreshing and citrus-y and a perfect complement to a wonderful birthday meal! Perfect ambience for a romantic meal! Next time I'm taking my honey!!
