  • "Enjoyed a pleasant lunch outside. Nicely priced beers on tap so had a Peroni. Wines by glass not as well priced. We enjoyed the chicken capetelli and veal meatballs. Both excellent, Were out of the grilled octopus though. Only negative of place is single restroom, so if that occupied need to go upstairs in adjacent hotel."

  • "I have been enjoying Osteria via Stato (the "pizzeria"/bar side) for years and take great pleasure in bringing others here for the first time. The reaction of newcomers is completely predictable - it is outstanding every time. Creative, delicious salads; crispy unstandard pizzas; mouthwatering sandwiches and pastas; and the bread - oh, the bread. Lunch is usually lickety-split quick, even with the adorable, 3-course "bring me lunch pronto", which is important on my lunch hour. This last time - not so much. But that's ok. That was a rare blip. Can't wait for the return of the outdoor patio."

  • "This place has fallen prey to the illness that atmosphere means music too loud to ignore and conversation amped up un order to create a lively and busy atmosphere. The style of the place is classic Italian with heavy dark wood and medium-low lighting. THe service was fabulous, even though delays from the airport left us one hour late for our reservation on a Friday night. The food was very good to excellent, I guess what one expects from a well established Chicago locale. But the music was just too loud to be enjoyable. In the bar area, it was deafening, in the dining room, somewhat better but still stupidly intrusive. Please, give us a break and just turn it down!!!"

The atmosphere is perfect for any occasion: Lunch, Romantic Dinners, Families, Etc. And the food, is to die for. I have been to this restaurant over 10 times in the last few years and have NEVER been disappointed. A Chicago must when you are in town :D"

  • "My brother and I were in town for a concert at HOB, and visited Osteria via Stato for dinner. We had the Taglatelle and some appetizers. Great taste- reasonable portions. Wine list is excellent. I recommend the Avignonesi red. Highlight was the Limoncello after dinner. Watch out- the homemade mix uses Everclear. It goes down like gasoline, but it quite a treat."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating with our reservations. Some of the guests were an hour late but the restaurant held our table and we were seated as soon as everyone arrived. I have not seen many restaurants do that. Our server was great. One of our guests cell phone was out of juice and the server offered to charge the cell phone in his manager's office. Food and service was great. Everything was fresh and the Gelato trio was delicious."

  • "Our evening started with a round of drinks at the bar while we waited for our party to arrive. The bartender could not have been nicer. He even poured a sample of beer so one of our group could decide what to order. Things started to head down hill after we were seated in the dining room and placed our dinner orders. The waiter rarely checked in and 2 items we ordered were never delivered to the table. We explained to the waiter that we never received one of the appetizers and he deleted it from the bill. However, it wasn't until the next day that we realized a side order we placed was missing as well. The food and the ambiance were good, but not good enough to compensate for the lackluster service."

  • "We travel alot and are always looking for great thin crust pizza and spaghetti arrabiata. This place has both that are really good! We tried it for lunch and loved it so much we went back that night for dinner. Even the crusty bread that's placed on the table is fantastic--crusty on the outside and super soft and airy on the inside. I'm really looking forward to being back in Chicago again just to head back to this place!"

Very nice menu with an excellent range from appetizers through main courses, backed by excellent service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals on both occasions. Make sure to sample at least several of the appetizers."

  • "We have never had a bad meal at Osteria and this visit was no different. Service and food are always top-notch with the entire staff making us feel welcomed and well-cared for. We started with the anitpasti board which was delicious - tons of fresh quality meats and cheeses. For entrees we had the special risotto which was cooked perfectly and richly flavored. Seafood stew had fresh seafood and a delightful broth while pappardelle was meaty and filling - my favorite of all the entrees. Server was friendly without being invasive and perfectly trained. She kept our meal flowing evenly. Cocktails were strong, unique and tasted great - nice to find unusual flavors at a restaurant. Panna cotta for dessert was creamy and smooth. A++"

  • "I have been familiar with Chef David DiGregorio's cuisine for a couple decades, dating back to his days as executive chef at the 95th. I was delighted during my recent visit to Chicago to find this chef again, and still guiding the staff of his restaurant to true excellence. I detected his commitment to quality and a seasonal, creative menu. Service was extrordianary, and very loyal to their chef. When I commented that Chef DiGregorio must be very proud of the restaurant, she replied "I think we all are" This pride was evident in everything about the place. Sigh. Almost makes me wish I still lived in Chicago!"

  • "This was our second date at Osterio Via Stato. The first time was in August for our anniversary. The second was for Valentine's Day. We live in Michigan so we cannot go as often as we would like. My cousin suggested the place to us; he is a professional chef so we trusted his recommendation. The food is truly wonderful, and the service is excellent. You cannot go wrong. Mangia!"

  • "Having never tried this restaurant before we booked the reservation based only on Open Table reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. We did not have to wait to be seated for our reservation. The service was prompt and pleasant. The food was very good. We had the calamari appetizer with potatoes and it was delicious! The food portions were ample and the flavors well mixed. I had the gluten-free pasta with wild mushrooms and my husband had the short-rib ravioli. Each dish was excellent. We will definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "We have eaten at Osteria a few times and have never had anything less than a good time. The staff is outstanding (far above average) and the food has always been very good. I wouldn't rank Osteria in my top tier list of elite restaurants (that's reserved only for a few places) but it's definitely solidly fixed in the category of "very good". Osteria's strength is that they know how to make a special occasion memorable. We went there on Valentine's Day and they had created a special menu and built a wonderful dining experience around it. We will come back."

  • "We had been to this restaurant for a wedding rehearsal dinner and were pleasantly surprised by how amazing the food and service was. We decided to go here for restaurant week and were equally impressed. The assorted olives, bread and garlic were delicious. The veal meatballs are wonderful as are the salads. The salmon is cooked to perfection, not overdone which I hate and the braised short ribs are super yummy also. The chocolate tart is a must if you are a true dark rich chocolate lover!! The service is great, our server was friendly and provided perfect wine recommendations. What was even more impressive is that all the appetizers were replenishable, I mean wow, so of course we had to get a second round of the veal meatballs."

  • "The meail at Osteria was phenomenal. Our waitress was fantastic as well and the service throughout the entire meal was excellent. When I made the reservation on Open Table I included that it was for a birthday celebration. When Osteria called to confirm, they were well aware of the reason for the dinner and told me how they normally treat a birthday dinner. Overall, fantastic experience!"

  • "We dine at the Lettuce group often and this was our first time visiting Osteria. And while it was good, it was inconsistent. We had the "Restaurant Week" special meal. Appetizers were very good... white bean dip, excellent salad, and out-of-this-world veal meatballs. While my wife's braised beef entree was very good, my salmon was OK, not great. Pretty fatty (even for salmon) and had a fishier-than-it-should've-had taste. The potatoes and brussel sprouts were quite good. The chocolate tart for dessert was good (and right-sized), but not outstanding. Disappointed with drinks... my wife's cosmo was just fair. And the wine list... very expensive for an "affordable Italian" restaurant. Waiter was good, not great. Not sure we'll return..."
