Diner Reviews
  • "Every plate we ordered was delicious. We topped our meal off with the most amazing dessert. Wish I could go back!"

  • "The food was phenomenal! Food wise, it was one of the best dinners that i ever had. The service was excellent. My only complaint is that the tables are too close together, so we were on top of the people next to us."

  • "The food here is wonderful. You need to order 3 courses to get the full experience of the chef's offerings. Start with and appetizer, then a pasta and the main course is a must! The portions are just right so you're able to enjoy all the food without feeling overwhelmed."

  • "The food was good, did it stand out No. The pasta dish's and the appetizers were very good. I had the pork loin and it was dry and my wife had the duck, same thing there. Everyone else had pasta and it was very good, so keep this in mind. Would I go back here to eat, Yes, would I go out of my way No, would I specifically take friends there No. Would I go there and and only order pasta, Yes. Server was very good but food took a long time to get and he kept apologizing."

  • "This was an amazing restaurant with succulent dishes. If your a food person you would love this place. The taste of the food takes your breath away. I could go to this place every week for dinner. This place is a hidden gem in LA. It's #1 on my list of places to eat."

  • "Wine list was expansive and expensive. My octopus appetizer was burnt and unpleasant. The rest of the meal was good to very good."

  • "Osteria Mozza is a beautiful restaurant with a menu that really makes you think your taste buds are about to be treated to the time of their life. After all, the burratta was flown in from Italy-today. But it just doesn't deliver. After getting spotty service, overcooked tuna, dry duck, unimpressive desserts, and a $350 bill, we were convinced our money would have been better spent somewhere else. At least I can mark that one off of my LA dining list."

  • "Crazy expensive for what it was. I liked my duck, my wife did not like her fish. If you want someone to walk you through the wine list, a guy is there to suggest pairings and whatnot. There's also a bread guy that carries around a tray and hands you an individual piece of bread. He seems a little indignant if he has to come back to give you another piece. More snooty than friendly, overall Mozza projects a sense of self importance as if one should feel lucky to be dining there."

  • "An innovative menu--great food, excellent cocktails and wine list. Food was creative and very fresh. The friend I brought who is from NY (and used to excellent restaurants) was impressed."

  • "Fabulous braised pork shank over lentils, an excellent ragu w/ bocatini, wonderful hangar steak. An uninteresting and ridiculously overpriced "bufala sampler" . . . 4, maybe 5 oz. of cheese for $28. The $30 charge for taking the cork out of the wine bottle we brought was pure greed. A side of bland polenta was completely overshadowed by the richness of the three main dishes. Except for not advising against the polenta, the service was perfect: server was attentive without hovering, well-informed about all the dishes about which we inquired, pleasant without being ingratiating; much appreciated."

  • "The food is very good and the service is terrific, but there are not enough vegetarian options on the menu."
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "Well I took a date here and of fered to let her pick the wine. They sent a wine expert that apparently loves the $150 bottle of wine the most expensive in the category. Come on I know she isn't buying those bottles. She pointed over the prices too so it would be a blind buy. I felt very taken advantage of with this recommendation."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants in L.A. The food was outstanding and our waiter Roman was a delight."

  • "The best Italian restaurant in town. As close to authentic Italian food as it gets. Service is excellent.....and the mozzarella bar is out of this world. So much to chose from...highly recommend it..."

  • "Extremely disappointing. Should be defined as a wine bar. Extremely extensive, expansive wine list. It seems that if you aren't there to enjoy this part of the restaurant, you will be ignored. Food was sub par; grilled items tasted more of char than the delicate flavors involved. If you aren't prepared with a well versed knowledge of Italian food, be prepared to play the guessing game. We had three separate servers and when the first one was asked to recommend between two items he replied "That one is good, yeah that one is good too". Extremely inattentive servers, water glasses were often empty and i spent much of the meal staring at the disturbing billboard of a homeless looking Melissa McCarthy across the street."

  • "This place is nicely located, food is outstanding yet service is so bad! Manager run our food to the wrong table??? He said he was sorry and very embarrassed! You have 5 tables all snugged together how can you not know your tables? Server took our order and we never saw her again! Incredible for the kind of place this is? WHY?? We were celebrating my girlfriends birthday and although I was asked and noted on OT no mention of this, no one acknowledged it----why ask?!! While the food is great the service has much to improve and of course based on this visit. We will not be coming back and sure hope all owners take the time to review and make changes to this place. Very disappointing!"

  • "Amazing wine list/choices. Food was outstanding. Service fabulous. The two of us tried many items on the menu and shared so we could savor and enjoy a wide range. Highly recommend this restaurant. You can't go here and not try at least two of the cheese choices-yummy!!"

  • "I took my husband there for his birthday, thinking it would be a nice romantic dinner however we should have turned around and left right at the beginning! The smell in the place was horrible like an overused oil that keeps being reheated over and over again, my clothes and hair smell was unbearable... The noise level was ridiculous, we could barely hear each other and I left there with a bad headache! To make it even better, their tables are so close to each other, I felt like we were eating dinner with complete strangers! I get they want to seat more people but at the same time, but please give people some privacy!!! The food was good, especially the duck! Our waiter was pretty good as well!"

  • "The sidewalk was under construction and it was a bit dusty outside. Inside, the service and food were spectacular."

  • "The food was as perfect as Italian food can get. Every dish was cooked to perfection. Every bite exploded with the tastes of so many ingredients without any competition. Everything just blended. Every dish was delicious. We only wish we could have ordered everything on the menu. But we'll be back."

  • "We spent over $300 for excellent food but at the chef's pleasure. Were told we had to order ALL at once instead of in courses. We would have preferred to order entrees AFTER we at least saw the appetizers. Of course we over ordered. We asked that our salad be split and the waiter took the order as such. Instead we got the hard to split butter leaf salad and the buratta at once. When I again asked to split, was told Chef doesn't split but we could have two small plates. So here we had salad, two salad plates, three bread plates including one for the wonderful salt bread, buratta late, drink glasses, water glasses and wine glasses on a small table for two. But I guess the chef was happy."

  • "My family and I have been going to Mozza for the past five years. Each time we go its always for a special occasion. We have always had a great time and a wonderful experience. The service has always been good, the food top quality, and the ambience has always been relaxed but enthusiastic. However, our last dinning experience at the Osteria was disappointing. Our waitress was arrogant and smart alec. Our favorite anti-pasta dish was trimmed down to a mere nibble for one. The lamb chops were dry, not to the standard, we have come to expect. Our main dishes took several minutes to arrive as our waiters were walking around the restaurant for 5 minutes trying to figure out which table serve. Our dessert was comped because they forgot it."

  • "Great food and fine service. The wine steward picked our wine and it was terrific. I had the duck and it was wonderful. We also shared the bombolini for dessert...OMG was that sensational."

  • "WE WENT WITH FRIENDS AND HAD AN AMAZING DINNER. FIRST WE ORDERED THE MUSSELS AND THEY WERE PERFECTLY COOKED, WE ALSO ORDERED THE CAPRESE SALAD AND THE BURRATA AND IT WAS ALSO VERY GOOD. THE WAITER WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND GAVE US GREAT SUGGESTIONS. THEN THE PASTA DISHES WERE PERFECT AND THE DESSERT, THE TORTA DI NONNA WAS TO DIE FOR. NEXT TIME IN L.A. DEFINITIVELY GOING BACK!!"

  • "We picked Mozza to celebrate our 28th anniversary. We made an early reservation which was great because it was less noisy. Mozza was on our bucket list and we really wanted to savor the flavors. We are not big eaters. We ordered two items from the Mozzarella bar and shared. We then ordered 2 pasta's. All was so good and we then had room for the olive Oil cake and Olive oil icec ream that I first experienced at Mario's Otto in NYC 13 years ago. After reading the reviews before we got there we made sure to ask for a second serving of bread to mop up all of the extra brown butter and sauces....We loved the food and the experience and felt great and not stuffed.....I will go back to Mozza Osteria and the pizza place!"

  • "Friend of mine found this place while we were all in town from New York. The food was good, the place is a bit pricey though but not bad for a once in a while experience."

  • "We went for dinner for two, the food was amazing, flavorful and decent portions. My only problem was the service. Our waiter was not attentive at all. We sat and 5 mins later he said hello, then dissapeared for 15 mins. Came back and rushed us through the order. I didnt even get to order a main course, after ordering two pasta dishes he said ok and ran off before I could order steak. It was rude and kind of a let down. "

  • "Disappointing. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants: Superior food and perfect service that was so unobtrusive you didn't realize that someone had actually kept your water and wine glasses refilled before you could empty it completely. It has changed completely. Had requested a table against the wall, but were given one in the middle of the room and told that we should call restaurant directly and not use Open Table i to make such a request. Offered bread only once (one piece each) and never offered seconds. Had to request butter/olive oil three times before finally flagging our waiter to please get us some (bread on our plates already mostly eaten)-- Same with water glasses. Food not up to old standards."

  • "We had been here before and loved it, recommended it and Came back with 6 people. had a very regrettable experience. took 20+ minutes to get a cocktail each time reordered. Service was poor. Food took forever. We were just very disappointed. For the amount if money we spent service should've been much better. "

  • "wonderful food. Not overly complicated or pretentious. Just delicious and unique. The olive oil was as good as I have ever had in Italy. "

  • "The restaurant has changed. There is a new energy in the food - not as refined - more flavorful but less restraint. Service was more casual, comfortable but not as tight. Male Sommelier was short with us and did not engage, as a wine person we were disappointed with his exchange. Female Sommelier (Sarah?) was sweet and diplomatic, recognized me and said hi. Concerns: - Bread service - was generic and not special - Steak for two - Burnt on the outside. - House Prosecco - too sweet Positives: - Amazing pasta and clams. Have been there 40-50 times, but not as much this year... felt very different - not as good as it was. I write to make you aware and hope things can improve - I know staff changes quickly. Best."

  • "The service, though friendly, was untrained--the waitress was told we would be sharing our dishes---which were many. 5 of the 8 were brought out simultaneously! This after we were told that the entire order has to be put in all at once, and that individual dishes could take up to 45 minutes to prepare. Within 10 minutes of ordering most of our meal arrived in the table--no extra plates or serving spoons were brought---we had to ask. The meal was delicious, but we spent a good part of it "training" our waitress---this should not have happened at Mozza! The service definitely detracted from the dining experience in a huge way. I would hesitate to make an unqualified recommendation for Mozza until they get the service in line with the food. "

  • "Fabulous food. Our sampling from the Mozzerella Bar was perfection. Creamy cheese, crunchie oatcake, perfect heat in the nuts complimented by the sweet of the honey, the ideal balance of flavors on the pallet. My Raviolo was off the charts. The duck ragu was an amazing combination of tomatoes, red wine and aromatic duck. Service a little rushed at first. Our salad arrived right on the heels of our app. Waiter very knowledgable and friendly otherwise. "

  • "Food very good. Called hostess on phone and she was not particularly friendly or helpful. I thought our waiter was a little scarce during and after dinner. Had to ask for olive oil for bread. Staff seemed a little disengaged and slightly bored. My husband loved his Sea Bream, daughter loved her Gnocci, I thought my pasta with sea urchins was just ok. Burrata bar interesting and unique and offerings were very good. A restaurant that takes itself a little too seriously."

  • "food is great, especially the pastas. pork loin was tasty but unfortunately, 1/2 fat. server seemed to only be able to do one thing at time. brought out our wine separately. took forever for us to get bread, and I was starving. "

  • "across the street. This was my second time at Mozza and likely my last. Our server was excellent, but the service was spotty. The mozzerellas and pastas were fantastic, but then forgot one of our apps and brought it after our pasta course. Most of the secondi were meh, but the lamb chops were tough, dry and, essentially, inedible. Although they comped the app, they didn't comp the "secondi," which, in my opinion, isn't the professional thing to do. Having said that, they can do whatever they feel is appropriate, it is their establishment. However, I won't be returning-- at that price, consistency, quality and service are what I am paying for. "

  • "We had dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Restaurant has good reviews for excellent food. The appetizers were good. We had fish for a second plate and the quality was ok/average. Desert was excellent. Service was ok. Noise level was very high. Probably the wrong place to celebrate with a quiet dinner. We had higher expectations on the service and food preparation quality."

  • "Overall highly disappointing. Food was okay. Highly surprised that it was a one Michelin star restaurant. Grilled octopus was burnt. Noisy, Tables are tight, could easily overhear all the neighboring tables' conversations. Horrible service! Only received appetizer after 30 mins of ordering. Received entrees one hour after ordering. Waters were never refilled nor were there check ins to order additional drinks. Server ignored us for the next table in the middle of discussing recommendations with her. She checked in with us once at the end of the meal. Servers kept switching all night, supposedly server was too busy wiping down glasses and having conversation at the bar instead of serving us. Manager did nothing to correct situation."

  • "Osteria Mozza is one of those restaurants that I never tire of. With as many choices as there are in LA, I can't seem to tear myself away to get to others. The food is just terrific. Creative, fresh, soulfully satisfying. Can't say enough nice things about it. Service is great, but does not match up to the excitement of the menu. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing about it that is remarkable."
