Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food, great energy, good service....never disappointing."

  • "Mozza should be on the must list for every foodie in LA. The room is beautiful, the pasta melts in your mouth and the cheese course is a must! We had the caprese - amazing little fresh tomatoes from the garden, and buffalo mozzarella to die for!"

  • "Everything about this place leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The service was probably the worst I have ever experienced and the management seems to have no clue. Our meal lasted almost 3 hrs. and in that time we could not get waters refilled, drinks took over a half hour to come, They forgot dishes that we ordered and had a attitude when we said something & 2 of the dishes we ordered we actually inedible. A manager finally came over to try and right things but really it was 2 little 2 late."

  • "I found this restaurant on a top 20 restaurant to try in Los Angeles. We were very impressed with the food, drinks, decor and staff. Our server was knowledgeable and had great recommendations. I would definitely recommend this place to someone visiting the LA region."

  • "Almost a 3 hours at dinner because there was such a ridiculous lag time between courses. Unacceptable. Would not return especially when the food was less than spectacular and the service is average at best. The restaurant was short staffed, was their excuse, but that's not my problem. For what is is, I think it's expensive and there is better food elsewhere in town for the price. The chairs are horribly uncomfortable!"

  • "The Saturday warm Mozzarella special is a must to order. It is warm, creamy on the inside topped with infused olive oil, leeks and garlic bread that is to die for. The pasta handmade dish are flavors are paired very well without overcomplicating the dishes. We ordered things to share. Without even asking our dishes were split up and served to us individually. The staff was extremely professional. If searching for a criticism it would be that the mozzarella dish with mint and artichokes was not as compelling as the others and that the wait staff could be more friendly. One does expect a certain decorum in fine dining, however the heart of this restaurant is the comfort food of Italy, which could be better emulated by the staff."

  • "We've been going to Osteria Mozza once a year for the past 4 years with the same group of friends. And all of us agree that the dessert and main dish has changed a whole lot. It needs some updating. The starter and mozzarella selection looks the same as well, but there are a lot of choices - it makes up 2 whole pages of selection. I would still recommend coming here for good atmosphere and service once you are at the table. I can't promise what kind of reception you will receive (my experience has varied from host to host)."

  • "Over and over again, OM wins. The food is delicious, service wonderful, ambience welcoming and the best drink ever (Gordon's Cup). We love it here."

  • "We recently had a dinner at osteria mozza because we read great reviews ,but we were overall disappointed especially by the food . The food was just ok, nothing speciall and definitely not worthy of the 3 chefs that are related to the restaurant. The place was crowded and we had to wait at least 30 minutes to be seated. The service was good ,but at the end of the night the bill had many mistakes, which were corrected afterwards."

  • "My husband & I had the greatest evening at Osteria Mozza. The service & ambiance were perfect. Out meals were delicious. Every bite was incredible! Best Italian we have ever tasted! Highly recommend!"
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "First and foremost, the food here is amazing. We each started with an offering from the mozzarella bar as our appetizer (highly recommend the leeks vinaigrette). The pastas served as our main course. Cooked to perfection! The restaurant was a bit noisy, so dont go there for a quiet romantic evening."

  • "It was a busy Saturday night, and although we had a bit of a wait and weren't seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time, our drinks at the bar were delicious and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The duck was a major hit at our table as was the burrata, the prosciutto, the wine, the goat cheese pasta, and the short ribs. A warm environment and lively restaurant that feels more like New York than LA, which in this reviewers opinion is a huge compliment."

  • "I ordered the oxtail ragu for second course and was over salted than got the leg of lamb which was not edible was chewy and tasted like eating straight salt they took it back and gave me short rib which was super average. My wife got the duck was nothing special. The bill was high. The only thing good was my waiter when he had a minute to come to our table because they are understaffed. I will never go back too many good places to go and spend so much $."

  • "First review, after fourth dinner at Osteria Mozza. Warm and attentive service, high quality food expertly prepared and served in a fun and comfortable atmosphere. What more could you ask for? The main bar and dining room can be noisy on a busy night. We were seated in a room toward the back which was much quieter and allowed for easy conversation with our friends. If you're with a group, you may want to request a table at the back when making your reservation; otherwise the main dining room is fun and lively. I'm looking forward to going back here again soon!"

  • "one of the few consistently good restaurants in the area with a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and attention to quality. Noisy, but not headache inducing like many other contemporary restaurants."

  • "Hubby and I went with another couple and the noise level was just right for cheerful banter through the evening. Our waiter was fantastic. We were on a schedule to leave in time for a show and he kept us on track- super efficient, food recommendations spot on and very down to earth while maintaining professionalism. All plates came with an explanation from all waitstaff who were equally knowledgeable. Fine dining without pretentiousness. And now I understand what the big to-do is about LaBrea Bakery bread! Thanks!"

  • "Very solid meal, appetizers were the highlight - burrata was amazing. Entrees solid. Disappointed couldn't order pizza from pizzeria next door"

  • "This was my first time to Mozza and I had high expectations. Service was good and our server did not seem annoyed that we took our time eating & choosing dishes from the menu. The wine list was overwhelming but the sommelier was very helpful. burrata (imported from Italy) was bitter but still decent. Short ribs were phenomenal. The dessert menu was underwhelming. The restaurant is very loud."

  • "Excellent food (though slightly overpriced) and wonderful atmosphere. Dim yet bustling, and very romantic. Perfect for a small party and a special occasion."

  • "My sister and I went for her birthday. We shared the buratta special and goat cheese ravioli. She had the leg of lamb and I had the short rib. For dessert we shared the chocolate flourless cake and the poached peach/blueberries with hazelnut honey cake and corn gelato. Everything was amazing but I have to say as a huge ravioli fan, this had to have been the best I'd ever had. Perfection! The service was out of this world. From the hostess to our waiter to the bus staff. Also appreciated that the manager took the time to come over and say hello. I plan to return many times/"

  • "Food and wine were outstanding but the attitude was right out of L.A. Story's L'Idiot. We arrived a little late because of traffic and were immediately told that we would have to vacate the table in 90 min. That was our greeting on entering. We ignored that directive and had a great time."

  • "Everything was amazing! We started our meal with 3 selections from Nancy Silverton's Mozzarella Bar. Followed by two of my favorite dishes; Orecchiette with sausage & swiss char and the delicate Butternut Squash Mezzelune with Amaretti. Our main course favorites are Duck Al Mattonewith pear mustard & sweet corn, Pan Roasted Pork Loin with fagioli all a Castellucciana and Pan Roasted Fluke with insalata di faro & yogurt. As if we had ant more room left, we indulged in the Bombolini huckleberry marmellata & lemon mascarpone. The flavor combination is balanced perfectly and not to be missed. We can't wait to go again!"

  • "We were shocked at the prices of the wine and did not think they offered value. The food was good, but not good enough."
    Dined on 7/27/2014
  • "Everything we had was so, so good. A fennel and endive salad, a beautiful version of a salade nicoise, pork with fennel seeds and a fish (orata) jetted in from Greece... Apparently. And then dessert of seasonal red berries with sorbet and fresh cream. Summery and perfect. Atmosphere was bustling, maybe a tad noisy. Our waiter was excellent, suggesting good wine pairings with each dish. The only reason I don't give the service a 5 star was not because of our service at the table but the greeting (sic) at the front. The two hosts came across as glum and haughty - which I find inexplicable and silly in any restaurant regardless of its reputation. It was a fairly expensive meal but so worth it."

  • "Lovely experience. Ambiance great. Lamb & Pork dishes needed more taste - also too much meat on plate & not enough lightness to balance the dinner - hardly any vegetables, etc. Too pricey - so doubt I'll return."

  • "Last year we had a great meal. It was easy to decide to come back - bad decision. It was packed, lively and a great and fun atmosphere. The food was an issue. Everything is quite expensive, and this time it wasn't worth it. Our smoked mozzarella with prosciutto was fine, but nothing special. The breads are great. My fish was so overcooked I almost had to cut it with a knife. The waitress and the person in charge came over on their own and asked about it. They said it was the second fish they'd seen in the past 20 minutes that wasn't cooked properly. To their credit, they did not charge me for it ($36). After this, we ate at Gjelina, Via Veneto and Ado, all of which were far superior. Go for drinks, not for dinner."

  • "Our dining experience was marred by the number of rules imposed on customers. Was stuck in traffic - called 2 hours before reservation. Was told more than 15 minutes late, my table would be given away. Made it on time, sat down and was told by the waiter "entire meal needed to be ordered at once". One diner, requested a half order of pasta as an additional course. Was told that was not possible. So he did not order. 5 minutes later, we convinced him to just eat what he wanted from the full order. That was also an issue because we were in violation of rule #2. Our waiter had to get permission to add the pasta order from the kitchen. The sommelier was excellent! - the food was okay - far too many restrictions to relax."

  • "I had heard such wonderful things about Mozza and have had great pizza from Pizzeria Mozza. I was disappointed in the food - maybe my friend and I both ordered the wrong things off the menu, but they were recommended by the waiter. I must say that the bufala mozzarella plate starter was delicious as was the cippolini side, but the Bavette and the Corzetti Stampati were not exciting. A side of polenta was like mucus and not good at all - the manager did not charge us for that side."

  • "This was one of my must go to's every time visiting La. For the past two years it has been off but not enough to give up on. Two nights ago we went -the cocktails are crafted well which is expected for price an smaller size. The kale salad and pasta I ordered was so over flavored it was almost unedible, I ate a few bites and when asked I did tell them it was all heavy handed with the garlic etc on pasta and acid on salad - I love well seasoned food and have never not eaten due to that. Not like me to find food over seasoned. My guess is sometging has changed in kitchen?"

  • "The food here is as good as it gets. While the staff is kind and knowledgeable (particularly the somm's) the service itself is very authentic Italian (slow) but unlike in Italy it didn't feel like a courtesy, it felt like a lack of attentiveness. We almost finished our whole main course with empty wine glasses while our bottle sat unattended and out of reach on the table at the front of the restaraunt. Not ideal."

  • "Have been to this restaurant 3 times. Food and service has gone way down. Reservation at 8:45 on a Tuesday night. Arrived at 8:30 and was told "table has paid, just waiting for them to leave". Checked at 8:45. Came back in at 9:10 after about 4 parties walked in the door but never came out. Got a feeling hostess forgot about us. Was then told " so sorry, please come to the bar and will bring some Prosecco and light snacks. 15 minutes later the manager came and said we can seat you right now in our private dining room (which no one else was in) or still wait for a table. We sat because we were hungry. Asked manager for a recommendation on a glass of wine. Found out on the bill it was $26. Charged for water. Will not be back or recommend."

  • "From walking in to walking out - I didn't want the experience to end. What an amazing place. What incredibly delicious food. What knowledgeable staff. What a find! I've heard about this place many times before, but the evening I spent at Osteria Mozza with my husband was unforgettable. Without giving anything away - my only advice is to run over there, as quickly as possible. Try everything. Don't hold back anything. Prepare to be wowed."

  • "Osteria Mozza gets lots of good comments so we decided to try it. The service was really good, just as the cocktails. We took the calamari as a starter and 2 pastas (agnolotti and pasta with duck ragu). Both were delicious. We look forward to our entrees, but they were disappointing. My wife's fish was completely overcooked. I went for the duck, the meat was good, but the dish was very boring. Only a big piece of duck, you can do much more with that. So we would give it a second try, especially for the pasta, but skip the entrees."

  • "Food was very good. Portions were thought to be small at first, but in reality they were right-sized. However, the price was a little much for size of each of the dishes, but it was what I expected going in."

  • "Whenever I travel to LA, a must is dinner at Mozza. The food is extraordinary, but the service doesn't match. I was visiting with good friends. We had a great deal to talk about. Most extraordinary places instruct their staff to not interrupt the guests. We were rudely interrupted three times. My friends brought a bottle of what they thought was a great bottle of wine to share with me. When the wine steward presented the bottle, my friend asked what he thought of the selection. The steward said it was "average". Maybe it was, but I would have thoght that the steward would have been more thoughtful. My only complaint historically is that they push wine sales. Their pours are like filling water glasses. I'll return. The foods worth it"
