A word from Osteria Morini DC
Osteria Morini pays homage to the casual and rustic cuisine and ambiance of the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Osteria Morini is a casual Italian restaurant from Chef Michael White. In Italian, “osteria” means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, and at Osteria Morini, Chef White continues this tradition of hospitality, transforming his first Washington, D.C. restaurant into an authentic, old-world osteria with soulful food from the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. • "great meal before Arena Stage! Imagine it would be great before or after a Nats game... delicious pasta and great drinks!"

  • "We dined early with my elderly mother and aunt, and the restaurant was able to put us in a quieter corner which allowed us to have normal conversation in spite of age-related hearing loss. We also observed a number of families with young children happily dining both inside and outside. Food was fabulous, and they easily accommodated our requests to leave out one ingredient and allowed us to split an entree. It was a wonderful experience, and we'll be back when we can explore more adventurous menu choices."

  • "Fabulous addition to southeast waterfront. Mouthwatering pastas, delicious entrees, and daily specials that truly were special. Extensive wine list, excellent wait staff and beautiful setting at Yards Park on a warm weekend evening. Will be visiting again soon."

  • "There is a lovely view in a lovely setting. We were given a table in full sun, with the sun in the eyes of two of the party. Servers are quite pleasant young men. The Saturday lunch menu is not the lunch menu on their website, which was a big disappointment because one of my guests has a restricted diet. She ordered a salad and a yogurt parfait, not the elegant lunch I had hoped for. It wasn't the celebration I invited her for. The appetizer cured meat platter was good and tasty but dry, as if the meats had been pre-sliced. With a bit more attention, this could be a real destination."

  • "We told our waiter my wife's allergic to nuts. Dessert arrived with nuts on it, though there was no mention of them on the menu! Waiter apologized profusely. 2. Every time a server or busser bumped our table, someone apologized. This happened three times. Seemed thoughtful at first. But when you cram three tables into what should be a passing lane (NY style BUT WE ARE NOT IN NY!!!) it grows irksome. 3. Pasta course (the stracci) was bland. I ate less than half of it. Waiter asked if I wanted it boxed. When she finally asked a question about whether or not the dish was any good, she apologized. NOT WORTH $100 per person"

  • "An absolutely outstanding meal; we live on Capitol Hill so we're overjoyed to have such a wonderful new addition to the neighborhood. After a slow start, the service was excellent and we liked every course, which is not always the case. My only negative is that it is very noisy, as so often happens these days. I'm not sure I would want to come with more than four people because conversation would be hard and that is part of our pleasure in dining out. But we will definitely be back soon."

  • "This is likely the best restaurant i've eaten at (food wise) since moving to DC a year ago. It's on par with some great NYC restaurants. Service is great too. It's not cheap-- but if you are looking for an exceptional experience and are someone who really appreciates details in food-- while being in a cool area on the waterfront-- i haven't found better in D.C. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "The menu entries were creative but not too precious. We ordered a cheese and meats appetizer plate that came loaded up with generous amounts of proscuitto and all of the freshly grill-toasted bread we could want. Condiments- little squeeze of mustard and some sort of jam- were perfect. The wine list was pricey, but had wines from regions we knew nothing about. A knowledgeable sommolier helped us out with an excellent choice. In sum, basically everything that had been prepared by others and only required serving was top notch. So we were very disappointed to find that the things made in-house- pasta, vegetables and desserts- were not as special as they seemed. And it was clear our waiter and the bar was overwhelmed."

  • "The food is excellent and interesting. Varied enough for the goodie as well as those liking predictable standbys. Fresh and yummy bread, seasonings are well done and imaginative. We've been twice and are happy to know about it especially since it is near enough to Arena Stage to make it a perfect pre-theatre dinner spot. The waterfront promenade is a lovely space for people watching and for an after dinner stroll."

  • "Interesting menu - very Italian, very interesting and well prepared. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and very familiar with the menu. We will definitely go back - want to try more dishes! Didn't love the location near the ball park, but the water views were great. Parking on a game day is tricky and very expensive."

  • "The views were ideal for restaurant. Initial service seemed good; then they forgot about us; then it seemed they were in a hurry to see us leave. Waiters should be trained on how to serve water and how not to interrupt conversations because they needed to remove plates."

  • "Had a wonderful time there! Food was great. Haven't had the need to go back to a restaurant in awhile so this was a sure winner. Good wine list, authentic Italian dishes, and consistent service. Overall, a solid addition to the neighborhood!"

  • "The pastas and sauces were delicious and the service, very attentive. And I know that cocktail menus are all the rage these days but I especially appreciated this one since it contained more than just vodka drinks."

  • "Execpt for attitude from the hostess who wanted to seat us where we did not want to sit (she eventually relented but not without negative body language in a very lightly filled room), we have a wonderful meal with lots of homey Osteria style dishes. We enjoyed a shared plate of Gramigna pasta followed by Braciola for me and short ribs for my wife. Good selection of wines by the glass and great grilled crostini (looked like it was grilled on a panini press) Will definitely return but hopefully with a different hostess."

  • "First time eating here, it was packed and one of the nosiest places I have been to in a long time. But with all that glass it would be difficult to be otherwise. With that said, service was quite good, food was terrific, valet parking available. Despite the noise, we will be back."

  • "Party of 6, Sat. night, arrived early. Waited at bar & had signature cocktails: Passione Arrabiata - fresh, great taste with a little spice; Violleta - well made/delicious, Amnore Sanguinante - perfect hint of cassis. Go for the cocktails, but stay for dinner! Seated by reservation time, water view as requested. Abdulla was very attentive & knowledgeable about the menu. Started with crostini & cheese, great selection & good flavors. We had Guanciale - which everyone tasted & would have again; Grigliata Mista - each piece prepared even better than the last, could be shared; Agnello - very nicely; Anatra - beautiful prepared & excellent sides - Brussels sprouts, whipped potatoes & polenta. Can't wait to go back and sit outside."

  • "My few experiences here have always been most enjoyable. The food is always excellent and presented in a creative fashion. My guests are always impressed with the evening spent here. The staff, from the host/hostess to the servers are well trained and knowledgeable. I always feel they are paying close attention but not overbearing or rushing me. Do have desert!"

  • "Morini's is one of the first place you think to go when you need to have a great experience with visiting friends or a really good meal. Our service was good, although it did get off to a slow start. Noise level was a bit high but you could still have a conversation. But the food; it's always great. The crostini is sublime and the pastas masterful. I highly recommend you try the Water Street Mule cocktail as well. Worth coming to the Navy Yard for but is really a neighborhood gem with a beautiful view over the water."

  • "and the service, although friendly, was just fair. With all the great restaurants in town, we would not rush back except maybe to have a drink at the bar. The location is wonderful."

  • "The staff is really wonderful and should be commended for their flexibility (I changed our reservation 3x). The menu is more diverse & nontraditional than one would expect at an Italian restaurant (crispy pig head terrine, braised oxtail stuffed pasta, roasted cornish game hen), but every dish that we ordered (table of 6) was delicious. The server tried to convince us to dine family style but the dishes looked more suited to individual dining so that's what we went with (glad we did so). My husband raved that the lamb sausage was the best sausage he has ever tasted, and my truffled ricotta ravioli was incredible. For traditionalists, the menu might be difficult to choose from. But we really enjoyed our meal there and will be back."

  • "We were in Italy throughout Tuscany back in November. The food was, well, fantastic. This place brought us back there in spades! The cured meat and cheese appetizer plate was awesome. The gnocchi was the best we have had in the US (but not Italy), the short ribs were excellent and the desserts were top notch. I would recommend to anybody who knows that REAL Italian cooking doesn't include chicken parmigiana or need to be swimming in an ocean of of tomato sauce. We will definitely be back."

  • "Osteria Morini is a splendid addition to the DC food scene. Located on Water Street not far from the ballpark, it permits diners to gaze on the Potomac while consuming robust, unusually flavorsome Italian cuisine. Even though the restaurant was quite full, the maitre d' kindly provided our party of 4 with a wheelchair-accessible, window-view table. The dishes (our choices ranged from pasta to short ribs to seafood) were fresh and original -- at the very top of the DC Italian food chain. The service was friendly and efficient. Our only complaint (a relatively minor one) was the high-priced wine list, which offered many decent choices, but very little at the low end of the scale. We will certainly return in any case."

  • "First to get to the restaurant is a nightmare Closing street ,detour poor signage .then the restaurant Is loud !! Very loud!! Feel like being in a cafeteria , the food Was good but nothing special .Italian food in a Cozy franchise That is what we felt like"

  • "Second time visitng and both times were excellent. Book ahead, it's hard to get a reservation. Our waitress was super knowledgeable about how the food was cooked and what contained a meat stock. Everything we had was very good."

  • "We asked for a table by the window that was empty. We were told there was a request for that table. 40 minutes later 3 men in suits came in and didn't have a res. they were seated. They asked the waiter to be moved to the vacant table I had requested. Yes, by the window. They were given the table. I think I'd only probably come back if I was not able to get another table at a nearby restaurant. It's unfortunate, because the meal was outstanding. I didn't appreciate the way I was treated."

  • "I went on a Tuesday night with a group of associates. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best meals they'd had in D.C. ever! Our server, Clark, was informative and pleasant without hovering. The wine choices were top notch. Highly recommend the crostini to start. The pastas were smaller portions but sufficient and really wonderful. I had shrimp with arugula pesto. Another person had the branzino which was boneless and beautifully prepared. One of our courses was a bit delayed and we were given a complimentary dessert. The desserts are fabulous! The restaurant, which is right on the water, was busy for a weeknight and I'd expect it to be slammed on the weekend. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Morini was recommended by a Beverage Manager at a DC downtown Tap and Restaurant. We were so pleased. Outstanding service by Alex. He explained the menu and made suggestions. You must order the crustini! Very nice bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio was recommended. We were able to share crustini, a salad, and one pasta dish and that was ample. Everyone was attentive. Highly recommend."

  • "My husband and I came here this weekend and had a great meal. They made an amazing vegan risotto for me. I also had to taste the dishes my husband ordered -- the gnocchi and the mushroom pasta. Both were fabulous! (we had the gnocchi without the meat on it but they both had cheese). I am usually not a big fan of Italian restaurants, but this place definitely stood out. I would recommend Osteria Morini over Tosca or Bibiana (both downtown). Enjoy!"

  • "Not the easiest place to get to.....but it is in a up and coming neighborhood. We went when it was snowing so a lot of folks probably canceled. In spite of the weather the service and food was great. An interesting and delicious twist on american Italian cuisine. Wonderful place And will be back soon."

  • "I made my reservation on Open Table but we still ended up waiting 45 minutes for our table. However, the food was excellent as was the service. I would like to go again to try other dishes, and hope they sort out the timing issues."

  • "My food was excellent: I had mixed grill with side of Polenta, next time I would definitely do pasta. The atmosphere was convivial, really like an Italia Osteria! Lots of good conversations going on, I was dining alone, and by the time I was done, the table next to me was putting together a dessert sampler platter from their orders! The view over the river is pretty, and the floor to ceiling glass walls bring it right inside. By the way; order the Primavera Pompelmo cocktail, it's crisp and grapefruity. Don't be put off by the Dickel corn whiskey, it blends in perfectly. Also, all the desserts were excellent, but the cheesecake was the last of an excellent selection. By all means, go."

  • "As a huge Italian wine fan, I was overjoyed to find Lambrusco by the glass. And not just 1- but 3 and I could get a flight. The meal started with the Lambrusco flight and a Charcuterie board. I could have died happy after that. The arugula salad was delicious. The mixed grill and steak were divine- and even better when paired with their Brunello di Montalcino. Again- I could have died happy, but there was still dessert. Dessert sent me straight to heaven. Do yourself a favor and make sure you save room for the Espresso and Salted Caramel Gelato and the decadent chocolate ganache cake. You will not be disappointed. Service was great- minus the wine flight being served to me out of order- but I caught it."

  • "I don't give many reviews, but this restaurant is well worth it. Went for a girls night and to celebrate my friend's birthday. Food was awesome!!!! Service was great!!! Had never been but saw it got a 4.6 rating after doing some research. It was well deserved and I concur wholeheartedly."

  • "The Food: Nice, even portions. Charcuterie (we had the Felino) was perfect. Melts in your mouth. Pasta (Capeletti and Bucatini), the same. Entree was succulent. The Wine: Needs work. The Place: Real nice. Not a bad table in the house, with all affording waterfront view. Rustic, yet modern decor. Intimate, maybe a little romantic. The Staff: Attentive, friendly. We went in the middle of the week, so it was quiet and unhurried. Will change clothes and head over here after Nats games."
