A word from Osteria Morini DC
Osteria Morini pays homage to the casual and rustic cuisine and ambiance of the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Osteria Morini is a casual Italian restaurant from Chef Michael White. In Italian, “osteria” means a place where the owner “hosts” guests, and at Osteria Morini, Chef White continues this tradition of hospitality, transforming his first Washington, D.C. restaurant into an authentic, old-world osteria with soulful food from the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, excellent service and made a big impression on a potential client. What's not to like?"

  • "Direct views and close proximity to the Potomac are the best features of this restaurant. As a party of 4, some of the dishes we ordered were fine but others only marginally good. Two different "special cocktails" were disappointing -- one was so tart as to require simple syrup which considerably improved it -- the mixologist needs significant improvement, service very slow and uneven. Desserts above average."

  • "We've been about half dozen times and it's consistently delicious. Love to charcuterie and pastas in particular. Highly recommend."

  • "Awful service. Everyone, the Maitre D, seater, bartender, waiter were comatose. Zombies without a clue. We had a reservation. We were asked to wait for a few minutes while our table was being prepared. We went to the bar and sat. 20 minutes later, the bartender had not acknowledged our presence, the Maitre D had greeted and sat about 10 other tables of customers (mostly walkins) while we sat at the bar. I finally went back to the Maitre D. Told him we were still waiting. He said thanks. 5 minutes later, I asked if there was a problem. He said no, he needed to wait for a person to return to front to seat us. That person led us to a table that was free and fully set up when we first arrived. Took another 15 min to order drinks."

  • "We live close by and the food is so terrific but I am afraid as much as we want to like this place the service is making it impossible. You get ignored for long stretches. Glasses of wine are taken away before they are done and getting the check is always a monumental task. This is the third straight experience where the service actually took away from how good the food is. Don't think we will be giving it a 4th try"

  • "We have a delicious lunch at Osteria. I had the insalata mista to start which can sometimes be boring, but this had shaved fresh veggies which were very flavorful. I had the tagliatelle and my husband had ravioli. Both pastas were cooked perfectly. The wine list had American wines as well as Italian and our waitress made excellent recommendations. The view of the river and surrounding area enhanced a very pleasant experience. It will be "regulars"."

  • "While we had not heard of this restaurant before, we used opentable to find a quick meal there before a show. The food was surprisingly good, the outdoor seating was superb, and they were contentious of our time constraints. We'll be back."

  • "Sloppy, indifferent service. Pretty good food. Overall disappointing; no plans to return."

  • "Interesting and very tasty brunch offerings. We will definitely go back."

  • "To begin with, we ordered Mortadella which is actually from Bologna. Very very tasty with crostini which was soft and hard at the same time. My friend ordered Branzino which was cooked to perfection. She has difficulty swallowing at times, and the fish was moist and beautifully cooked. Her husband had a spaghetti with crab and sea urchin which he enjoyed. My husband and I ordered Garmigna. This dish was heavenly. The pasta was al dente, with a sauce and meat so tasty with just a bit of a bite, you wished you had a huge bowl rather than a modest bowl. I would order it again and again. The prosecco was very nice too. Thus far, Osteria Morini is my favorite Italian restaurant."

  • "What a treat - the best Italian food I've ever had in DC and in a lovely setting overlooking the river and the new Yards Park. Everything we had, from salad to main course to dessert and cheese, was as good as we've had anywhere, and we seek out Italian restaurants when we travel. Pricey, about $100 a person with a drink before and coffee after, but worth it. My only (mild) complaint is that for the prices and the high service level it could be upscaled a bit. A large screen plasma TV playing in the corner was an unwelcomed sports-bar touch, and waiters in jeans seems a bit casual for the generally well turned-out customer base. Music at one point was loud 80s rock but seemed to tone down and get more pleasant, maybe someone complained."

  • "This place was surprisingly nice, and off the "reservation" of the normal"DC crowd. The view is phenomenal, and the atmosphere is comforting, and not overbearing. While you should be prepared to dig in you wallet. If you appreciate the smaller things, like decor, and fairly good cured meats, etc.. You're in for a treat"

  • "We've been here twice. We had Chris as our server once and this past time out server was Shannon. She was very sweet and didn't rush our dining experience. The food was delicious. Presentation was beautiful. We had a baby with us and she had a great experience as well."

  • "A perfect dining experience on a cool summer night. We were able to eat outside and enjoy a lovely view of the river. We could also hear which we sometimes have not been able to do inside. Food always wonderful."

  • "We had a reservation for dinner last weekend. After dinner we were scheduled to go to HR 57 jazz club and asked the waiter about getting a cab. Not only they assured me that they will call a cab, it was ready and waiting just as we got done with paying the bill! This was my first time using Uber so after the ride when I asked about paying, the driver said that the restaurant will be charged. Feeling embarrased and guilty, I immediately called them back and offered to pay. To my amazement they said the ride was on them ($15). It was still less than the tip we left but we were sincerely wowed by this service. Reminded me of Charlie Trotter's resturant in Chicago (now closed) where they got me a shawl because I said it feels little chilly."

  • "After waiting too long to find a brunch location downtown, we chose Osteria Morini because reservations were plentiful. The reservation turned out to be a mere formality because, on a relatively nice Saturday at 11 am, the restaurant was deserted. The food was very good. Our waiter was a bit slow and not very friendly. Overall, I hope that this restaurant thrives and does a better business once more people move into the area. But eating in empty restaurant isn't my cup of tea, so though I may try it for dinner at some point, for now I'll stick with downtown for brunch."

  • "Cocktails-good. Crostini-good. Focaccia-delectable. Truffle oil, cheese stuffed pasta couldn't taste the truffle part. Veal stuffed pasta-great, mixed grill-good, cioppino-ish-perfect. Sides lacked. The server barely answered menu questions. I don't think she knew the answers. She didn't care to find out whatsoever. Like "is the meat already in the dish or can I get it without" answer, "I think it's in there." Where it went way south was she was hovering at our table clearing every single plate one at a time, interrupting our conversation over and over. It just became rude. So we went to Agua100 for dessert, drinks and coffees and very glad we did. Overall, we all left pretty underwhelmed, unimpressed. Don't know if I would go back."

  • "The second time I went to Osteria Morini was for a post-engagement dinner. I coordinated with the GM a few days in advance and they had free champagne waiting and offered to help with flowers, wrote down food allergies, etc. Our waitress walked everyone through the menu and we had a fantastic experience. It is a little pricey but the food is really wonderful. Definitely try the truffle cappelletti and the arugula/speck salad (we asked for a poached egg on top). Their meats are perfectly cooked and they offer great charcuterie options. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful; Yards Park and the surrounding area is one of the best kept secrets in DC! For me, this is a place for special occasions but it is well worth it."

  • " The night we dined was over 90 degrees so "sizzle" applies to weather conditions but primarily describes the dynamic combination of the inventive and classic at this vibrant NYC osteria. To start try deconstructed crostini offered with artful presentation of 5 different toppings that vie for top billing on the tongue first the smoked trout, olives & sour cream, then beef crudo with mushroom crema, then Parmigiano “Gelato”roasted beets, ricotta salata and eggplant, with marsala. Pastas are amazing but the branzino only blandly ok. I would suggest the inclusion of one or two other seafood dishes in addition to the classic meats and pastas. Desserts on a hot night-- gelato and sorbetto with toothsome decadent house made cookies. Bravo!"

  • "Good food Interesting menu Large wine list Not cheap Nice location but if you come without a car you will be stranded at the end of the meal No cabs to be found or called Staff utterly unable to help And don't believe it when they tell you you'll find a cab down the street----there aren't any There is a subway Be ready to use it Nice restaurant but I won't be back"

  • "Good place to try different plates -overall good -I was upset I order a bottle of wine and it wasn't opened at table side and he had poured into a jar -it wasn't inexpensive and I should have said something -it bother all the way till I got home -seems dumb but I will not be going back"

  • "This was our third time trying OM and boy are we glad we kept at it. The food has always been good, but the service was spotty. Billy was our waiter this third time and he was great! New to the neighborhood so will definitely be back for more delicious food and stellar service from Billy! Favorites include meat and cheese plate, meatballs, sausage and polenta, for entrees we love the lasagne and the agnolotti and you can't go wrong with the tagliatelle."

  • "Dishes are tasty & lightly seasoned, definitely worth a visit. Staff is outstanding & terrific at explaining the menu. Noise level inside is pretty intense during peak dinner hours - try outside when the weather permits."

  • "Seated at a table with fabulous view. We had appetizers, salad, pasta and dessert. All very good, but the desserts stood out. The hazelnut-chocolate mousse was superb and worth a visit in itself. The pastry chef said it was a new addition and asked our feedback. Good winelist, excellent gnocchi, surprisingly the arugula saladwas too salty and overdressed. Will return for sure for outside drinks, entrees and more."

  • "I was reluctant at first to make the drive over to SE but with a friends encouragement to "try something different" I grudgingly went with her. What an amazing transformation has been made to the area around the waterfront! My jaw literally dropped as we drove into the surrounding area. As for the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly valet as well as a cheerful and helpful hostess who ushered us to a lovely outdoor table on the patio overlooking the water. The waitress and general manager both were very helpful and recommend some incredibly tasty appetizers, and the handmade cappeletta pasta melted in my mouth. I couldn't believe the quality of the food and service, it was truly among the some of the best options for DC dining."

  • "Reviews were spotty for this restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. Went on a Tuesday evening and sat by the front so we had a nice view of the river. Nice ambiance, low noise, and good food. The pasta was fresh and ingredients unique. Only negative was the repeated attempts by our server at the end of the meal to grab the check-unclear if it was intentional but it felt like we were being shown the door. Overall would recommend this nice Navy Yard find."

  • "All 5 of us who had dinner there loved it. 3 had pasta and 2 had bronzini and thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. A special treat was the appetizer parigiano gelato. The salads and desserts were splendid. And the setting on the water was great. We plan to return soon."

  • "Service was extremely attentive and the waitress was very knowledgebale about the menu; we asked many questions. This restaurant is fast becoming one of my favorite Italian places in the city (the others are Fiola, Casa Luca and Acqua Al II). I had agnolotti stuffed with veal parcels. It was delicious. My wife had the stracci, about which she raved. We shared a side of fingerling potatoes, fried and sprinkled with cheese. Superb. Our desserts were also excellent."

  • "The appetizers were the best part of the meal! Vibrant scene on waterfront. With outdoor seating. We did not wait to be seated outside. The service was mediocre. Wine was spilt. A miscommunication in one of the meals (corrected satisfactorily). Would have ordered another glass of wine if came by to ask before meal was essentially done. Plates were not cleared in a timely fashion. (My pet peeve) long wait after meal was finished for check."

  • "An entree will not fill you up, though with prices starting at more than $20.00 you would think they should. My $28.00 seafood stew had 2 scallops, 3 mussels, 6 clams, and a few pieces of fish. It was excellent, but I would have expected a bit more food. The cheese portions on the charcuterie platter were smaller that most restaurants I've been to."

  • "It was a surprise to find this attractive restaurant in a neighborhood more characterized by brewpubs and fast food places. This is serious food in an attractive restaurant and at fairly high prices but very worth it. We went early in the evening so noise levels were not yet a problem but I suspect that a full house would create quite a din. Outdoor seating is available too. I look forward to returning to this restaurant before our next Nats game. "

  • "Three of us went for brunch and sat outside. There is plenty of outdoor seating. The brunch menu could have a few more breakfast choices, but the food we had was excellent, especially the bread basket and the fries. Service was a bit slow."

  • "Noise level was so high, we could not hear each other or the waitress. Further, my notation on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday was unacknowledged. Although the restaurant is convenient for après-theatre dining, we will not return."

  • "Great location and service. For the price level, there could be more choices for vegetarians. Service was good, but I felt a bit rushed to order the main courseN. No big deal, I guess our waitress was getting ready to wind down after a long day. And thats understandable. She was very professional no doubt. Just wish we had sone lighter fare as well. Tasty Polenta, but could be lighter. Fantastic Asparagus. Thanks for the courteous service. Will be back next time."
