A word from Osteria Mattone
Osteria Mattone is a neighborhood restaurant serving regional Italian cuisine with a heavy focus on Roman fare, combining the casual spirit of an Osteria with the more formal dining of a Trattoria.

We open for dinner at 5pm Tuesday-Sunday, and we happily accept reservations for our Trattoria dining rooms. Our patio and Osteria dining room are available on a "first come-first served" basis for walk-in guests.

We look forward to serving you!

Diner Reviews
  • "Perfectly magical. Like being in Italy except we didn't have wine. It was lunch after all. Fabulous everything. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was personable, attentive, had beautiful cheekbones which we recognized. We got into a great conversation with her. The gazpacho is the most unusual and delicious of any I have ever had. Perfectly memorable. Love this place. We sat outside, were not rushed, and our glasses stay filled."

  • "This was our first time eating there on the recommendation of neighborhood friends. The food, ambience and service was great. I recommend to anyone."

  • "I think this is a good restaurant, but not necessarily worth driving to from in the perimeter to visit. The food overall is good. The fish dishes, especially the swordfish was terribly overcooked. The pasta dish my friend had also lacked robust flavor. The pizza and the appetizers were good however. I think if you are in the area, then this restaurant is fine. Service was a bit spotty, perhaps because the restaurant was very busy?"

  • "There was a lot of hype about this restaurant from friends. And trying to get a reservation was quite difficult because of its popularity. The menu was interesting; the wine list was good, the service was very good. The food was a little bit of a let down. Not special enough. No really outstanding flavor combinations or incredible bites that brings your thought processes to a halt for an audible response. One notable downside was the Lasagna. It features pappardelle noodles (my absolute favorite pasta) with a combination of meats in the sauce and served in a deconstructed fashion. Sounds great, right? There weren't enough noodles and the overall taste was way too salty. We do plan to hit it again and order differently."

  • "We really enjoy going to Osteria Mattone. This is one of the first places that we take guests from out of town or other parts of Atlanta to showcase the beauty and diversity of Old Roswell. This time we were not pleased with the meals. Our guests ordered the veal and it was very tough. One of our guests literally could not digest his meal. Ryan was very kind and recognized the problem and offered to replace it with another dish. By that time it was too late. It is still a wonderful restaurant and has all the makings of a Buckhead contender. Hopefull this was a one time time bad experience."

  • "I met an old friend that I had not seen in a while so we had a lot of catching up to do. We met for lunch and enjoyed a wonderful meal outside on the patio. More so than that, the waitress was very nice to let us sit and linger. She provided just the right amount of service. Very few interruptions. Empty plates were taken away and water glasses refilled without any interruption to our conversation. We will both be back."

  • "will return soon, have already mentioned the restaurant to my friends yesterday, one has a gift certificate to use there and one had heard about the restaurant and was wanting to try it"

  • "My wife and I dined here for the 1st time. Really liked the location and layout of the restaurant. It was our wedding anniversary and we loved it! Food was great and Mitch our waiter was outstanding! We will be back!"

  • "The food was delicious, the wait staff were attentive, and the chefs were especially accommodating with a member of our party with food allergies. We will most definitely be back."

  • "We brought our family to Osteria Mattone for my daughter's 18th birthday celebration. This was our first dining experience there. Our waiter was wonderful, and our meal was fantastic! I had the grilled lamb chops with mushroom risotto- delicious! I can't wait to go back!"

  • "I was so happy to have picked this place for my birthday brunch. Jordan was an excellent server and guide of the menu- all of is recommendations were on point- especially the scallop appetizer- probably the best scallop dish I've ever had! The special of pork cheeks over carrot puree with fried arugula was excellent- there was a wonderful smokiness to the carrot puree and the dish was very colorful and visually appealing as well as delicious. My only complaint is nothing at fault to the restaurant- I just dine downtown and Midtown a lot and am not used to dining with loud children in these types of establishments. But overall a wonderful meal!"

  • "We dine often at Osteria Mattone due to it's terrific ambiance, excellent service, interesting wine list and unique menu. I choose this restaurant often when we dine with friends as it always impresses everyone. This time we brought friends from Buckhead in order for them to experience this restaurant and vibrant Roswell dinning scene. Our group has lived abroad and everyone was impressed. We all felt the service was on par with some of the great restaurants in Europe."

  • "This was our first visit - what a great experience we had! We were a party of four for dinner, and were all very pleased with our meals. Shared appetizers: Polpette (meatballs-best we've had) and Fritto Misto (fried shrimp, calamari, scallops) Salad: Arugula (could have used a little more dressing) Side: grilled asparagus, Entrees: Tagliolini de mare (Excellent!!) Pesce Spada (swordfish)-two ordered this and both loved it. They said it was moist, not dry as we sometimes find at other places. Lasagna Bolognese (not your traditional layered lasagna - great meat sauce!) Dessert: Rum brioche? Yum. Our waitress was knowledgeable and super helpful in describing dishes, and wines. Don't expect the stereotypical red-sauce Italian here. Just go!"

  • "if you are looking for Northern Italian and the quality and ambience that New York City can provide, Osteria Mattone fits the bill. The mix if land and sea items provides a solution for every pallet. We especially liked the grilled octopus, "pulpo". We have only been able to find compariable appetisers in NYC or Miami. Then the wine list leaves nothing out of place. Even their by the glass options provide excellent pairings for those that don't have a need for bottles. We have been their a couple of times and each experience was fabuloso. The wait staff are attenitave and professional. Definitely a must for the romantic as well as the business professional. Gotta go"

  • "By far the most true to form Italian in Atlanta. Ryan and Daniel run one of the most professional and heartfelt restaraunts around. Food and wine is off the charts and the waitstaff especially Jordan are well versed and exceptional. I would eat there more if I could!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner on Saturday evening. The favorites at the table were the scallop appetizer, and the lamb chop entree."

  • "I had the pleasure of going to Osteria this past Saturday night. The entire experience was outstanding, start to finish. I went with four friends, we all ordered the bellini while waiting on our table. There was a delay because fresh peach puree was needed but staff kept us updated and the drink was well worth the wait. Our meal was delicious because we chose to share plates and it allowed us to sample five items but I want to return soon and try the entrees. Our waitress also did an excellent job with wine suggestions."

  • "After all the great reviews I was excited! I didn't expect a problem parking since they have their own lot. Was I wrong! And turned away -despite cars leaving! Frustrating start to the evening and the valet was not helpful in suggesting alternatives. Note to restaurant - if your lot is that small and you are so busy, find alternatives! Got into the restaurant for an 8pm reservation and no table. Had to wait 20 minutes. This only added to my frustration. Finally we were sat. Asked waiter about drink menu and particular ingredients, which he didn't know. Ordered a cocktail, which I sent back. First time ever. Waiter didn't seem too versed on menu. Food was good (not great) but inpsite of all other experiences would not go again."

  • "Mixed review- considering the 3 week wait, but would try again. Has the trendiness that people love, & trained staff, that is friendly and interested in the food. Ordered 1/2 portions as the food is rich Roman style. The pasta was cooked perfectly andante. Oxtail pasta delicious. Octopus - a bit chewy, and burrata very hard around the edge like it had been left out. We did get there towards the end of the evening and unfortunately the back waiters started to clear surrounding tables of cloths and our table of all condiments before we ordered desert, as if trying to get us out of there. We had to ask for the desert menu. We had the Baba Rhum, a bit grainy like corn bread & Chocolate Torte, wonderful! Outdoor dining inviting & romantic!"

  • "The ambiance is nice - has outdoor seating too - as long as you don't have the big table of squealing girls next to you like we had... Food is good (meatball app and the veal), but the carbonara was forgettable and the gnocchi were pretty mushy. Good wine. Staff very friendly and helpful."

  • "Osteria Matone has very authentic and delicious Italian food. Their Pasta Bolognese is wonderful, and it's prepared the traditional Italian way with Besciamella sauce rather than ricotta cheese. They make their own pasta in house which makes it much lighter than dried pasta, and they serve it many different ways. They also have a great selection of seafood and classic meat entrees including ribeye steak, lamb chops, and veal. The desserts are truly amazing, and very different from the fare you usually see on Italian menus."

  • "I'm a diplomat who has savored Italian cuisine at the finest restaurants in the United States, around Italy, and at Italian Embassies and Consulates overseas. The dishes served at Osteria Mattone rate right at the top alongside those such as I've experienced at places like Sora Lella on Tiber Island in Rome. Osteria Mattone is astoundingly good and makes me wonder how the management team managed to replicate the real tastes of Italy when so many other supposedly finer Italian restaurants in America don't come close. This place's cuisine is right up with what Roberto Donna serves in Washington."

  • "This is the best and most authentic Italian meal my wife and I have had since we got home from a two week trip to Italy last year. Everything from the appetizers to the desserts was simply amazing. Our waiter had a great wine recommendation that paired perfectly with our meal. We will be back soon."

  • "So hard to make a final decision here! We wanted homemade pasta but I've had the lambchops and mushroom risotto before and always crave them, too. In the end we decided to order a bunch of appetizers (tuna, salumi plate, meatballs) and then shared a pasta (how do they get that Carbonara to be not too heavy??) and a salad. That left room for dessert - OMG! I'm so crazy about that baba rhum sauce! Finished off with a little amaro on the rocks...still recovering from all that food but it was worth it!"

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant and it exceeded expectations. The menu offered amazing choices and we will return to try other selections. Though busy, the service was timely and the waiter knowledgeable."

  • "We will definitely return to this gem, so many items on the menu we wanted to try. The food was superb, as was the service. Indoor atmosphere was good for quiet conversations, outdoor seating is something we will look forward to as the weather cools. Chef Ted my sea bass was perfection on a plate!"

  • "Amazing dinner this week. The food was memorable and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I was with a group and was able to try several things - all were very good but there were a few stand outs. The scallop and cauliflower puree appetizer was amazing. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the puree had great flavor. I would go back just for that! The oxtail/short rib ravioli was also incredible - definitely the winning entree at the table. Both were recommended by our server, as was a perfect wine pairing with the ravioli. For desert we tried the bread pudding, chocolate/hazelnut cake and panna cotta. All were good but the bread pudding was definitely the winner! Can't wait to go back to Osteria Mattone."

  • "I took my mom and aunt here for lunch last week for my aunt's birthday. They are two very particular Italian ladies and they loved everything. They even loved the sauce which never happens. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch and dinner. We have done both. Our food was wonderful, service was perfect and the place is beautiful!"

  • "I have dined at O. M. three times for lunch. Each time I have had excellent service as well as a fabulous meal. I arrived one day [made reservation] to dine inside only to find that the weather was comfortable and breezy outside. I asked if it would be a problem to change my table and eat outside and my wish was granted immediately. The staff was gracious and happy that they could accommodate my wishes. I have made reservations for lunch in September but will visit there in August on the spur of the moment. An excellent addition to the Roswell dining scene"

  • "amazing food, poor front desk and waiter(for our table) the other waiter next to us was very helpful to his guests. felt as though we were not welcome it was just a place to eat.The owners brother we saw on Atlanta Eats came out to greet every table except ours. It was myself and my wife. Maybe it was the tattoo sleeves but who knows? We were dressed very nice and ready for a great experience. I am a business owner in North Ga and I was disappointed in the lack of interest our waiter showed us and we decided to just eat and enjoy each other and leave. Maybe it was our age(42) but the other tables were all in their 50's so maybe he needed to cater to them more. AMAZING food great location but just very high brow."

  • "The food is very good but everything is a la carte and the servings are not large. Ends up being a very expensive evening. There are 2 different eating areas with a more formal side and a more casual area. The outside patio looked inviting but the weather was not cooperative. Service is good with a well-trained and friendly staff. Enjoyed it but not enough to spend that much on one meal."

  • "My only suggestion is that I think the menu is somewhat limited in both entre's and appetizers. It needs more fish and steak options"

  • "Took a party of six to Osteria Mattone on Canton Street and had a great time. We had met the owner Ryan on the Roswell Food Tour at his other Canton Street restaurant Table & Main. He remembers us and even more impressive he remembered that one in our party could not have pepper. The wine was delicious. Everyone in our party got a different dish and loved it!"

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at Osteria Mattone and it was a wonderfully romantic experience. The entire staff, and I do me ENTIRE - from our waiter to the owner to the Chef - all congratulated us personally. They truly went the extra mile to accommodate our dinner requests, making a special dish possible for my foodie husband. Thank you for making a special night even more so!"

  • "After a less than great experience in May, I went back with a small family group. Chris was outstanding and made the dinner wonderful! The food tasted great and was paced very well. The whole fish was spectacular and something I will go back and order. Don't just get pasta here although it was great but get the entrees also! Desserts are yummy although my daughter's sorbet to was a little too small. I will try OM again now that I had the best meal out of the 5 times I've visited! Thank you, Ryan!"
