A word from Osteria Mattone
Osteria Mattone is a neighborhood restaurant serving regional Italian cuisine with a heavy focus on Roman fare, combining the casual spirit of an Osteria with the more formal dining of a Trattoria.

We open for dinner at 5pm Tuesday-Sunday, and we happily accept reservations for our Trattoria dining rooms. Our patio and Osteria dining room are available on a "first come-first served" basis for walk-in guests.

We look forward to serving you!

Diner Reviews
  • "We were celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary. From Ryan to Mitchell they made the night feel really special. Food was wonderful, and the service was warm and friendly. Will be back, and will bring friends. This place is a 10."

  • "My husband and I went to Osteria Mattone for the first time the other night and absolutely loved it. The wine and cocktail lists are great and the food was wonderful. It's very easy to overeat. The service was excellent and the wait staff had a great sense of humor. We'll definitely be back soon."

  • "We ate at Osteria Mattone for the first time and weren't disappointed. The food was fantastic. Simple yet incredibly delicious at the same time. The homemade pastas make all the difference."

  • "We entertained friends from out of town and enjoyed the evening... It felt great that the waiter was not pushing us to free up the table.. Food was great and service friendly..."

  • "It was one of the best meals my husband and I have had! The meal was just superb from start to finish. The wait staff throughout were outstanding. The décor was lovely, very, very nice. The food was simply delicious..It's our new favorite restaurant!!!"

  • "After waiting for several months to line up a table, I expected more, but left underwhelmed. The food was awesome and that alone will probably bring me back. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre and the inside dining area was WAY TO LOUD. Our waiter seemed unfamiliar with the wine list, but did not seek help form other members of the staff. When we asked about a specific wine that listed for $90, he countered with one listing for $144 that he heard was good. Though nicely done architecturally, the acoustics were terrible. One loud couple in the middle of the room destroyed the conversation at our table and those adjacent to it."

  • "This was our second trip to Osteria Mattone and it was just as good as the first. We brought friends both times and they were also impressed. The service is comfortable, while also professional. The food is outstanding. The experience has been great both trips. We will definitely go back"

  • "Didn't realize they are open for lunch! Looking forward to this. Since it was our anniversary, they really made us feel special. I loved the card of acknowledgement on our table when we arrived. Nice touch!"

  • "Nice Italian option in Roswell. Food was average/good at price point. Nice wine selections. Nicely appointed interior and exterior. Review probably would be stronger if expectations had been lower!"

  • "We went for our wedding anniversary. It was fantastic. Julie is a top notch server. That is the best clams linguini I have ever had. Fresh little neck clams. Perfectly al dente noodles! My husband's Hake fish was delicious as well. Order the Carpaccio. Always a special experience there."

  • "A gem in Roswell. Thought I would take my wife out for a surprise dinner at newer Canton St. restaurant. We made reservation at opening time 5pm. to avoid any crowds. The menu was simple but with a wide range of Italian dishes. The waiter was knowledgeable, and helpful. Wife had oxtail raviolis and I had lasagna. Both were excellent. The specialty drinks were also unique and enjoyed."

  • "Margherita pizza was good, but the Salumi & Formaggi was better. Agnolotti di Oxo was excellent. Very subtle flavor. Spaghetti alla Carbonara also very good. Scallopini di Vitello was tough and served with only two pieces. The rapini was stringy and very garlic-y. Dessert was far better. Due to nut allergies, I was limited (you'd think most restaurants would be conscious of that!). The Baba Rhum was superb! Blueberry and raspberry sorbet was very flavorful! Valet parking seems unnecessary since there's a small lot behind the restaurant."

  • "We went to Osteria Mattone for our 3-year anniversary and had a wonderful experience. They left a card on the table for us from all of the staff as well as flowers. They even treated us to dessert! Our waiter had good knowledge of the menu and wine selection and made excellent recommendations for both. I would highly recommend the lamb and risotto. We have been to Italy before, and the food took us right back. Overall we had a special anniversary date and some amazing food. I would definitely recommend them for an anniversary dinner (or their sister restaurant Table and Main across the street)."

  • "What a wonderful first visit to this restaurant for lunch! From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. Friendly people were near the front door and offered to make me comfortable with a beverage until my friend, a birthday honoree, arrived. We enjoyed delicious food, and the staff made us feel welcome and were very attentive. We will go back! A sixtieth birthday was celebrated that day, a very good memory for both of us."

  • "Being of Italian heritage, I am skeptical about restaurant Italian items, but Osteria Mattone is the real deal. From the appetizers to the main courses to the desserts, the food is authentically prepared. The bar service is top notched too! It is our "go to" restaurant for a casual lunch to an impressive dinner for clients."

  • "My husband and I tried the veal meatballs and burrata salad -- molto bene! The entrees were good but quite rich. The gelati was light and refreshing--get the triplet! My only criticism was the busboy not bringing plates for us to share the starter. However I find this all too common in restaurants."

  • "Small portions, not the best food, and poor service."

  • "You know when a restaurant is good when the owner is working it like an employee. The food was great."

  • "When you say, "Italian", people usually think pasta. And the pasta dishes here are wonderful. But sometimes when we have a craving for seafood, we like Osteria for that, too. The Bronzino is my favorite - didn't think I'd like the skin on, but whatever they season it with really brings out the full flavor of the fish. Fantastic! My husband has had the swordfish several times and always enjoys it. Haven't tried the salmon yet, but the table next to us liked it. May try that next - unless we feel like pasta!"

  • "Had been trying to get reservations for this restaurant since its opening and finally got in on a weekend night! Overall a lovely place! The space is quite beautiful! Our server was knowledgable for both our drinks and menu as well! The salads were delicious and the two pasta dishes were great! The only reason I did not give a 5 star was my Veal medallions were at best average! Not much taste and and the cut was too thick! Will definitely go back but order something different next time! On another note, do not skip the bread pudding for dessert! It was to die for! Very impressed with this spot as they make most everything in their kitchen including the pastas and even the mozzarella! Hope this one is here to stay!"

  • "We had a great time! Our server was knowledgeable yet not overbearing. He wasn't like most trying to push the most expensive item on you either."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. I had heard excellent reviews from other friends and I was not disappointed. The pasta is the most amazing thing I've ever tasted. All hand made and fresh. I can't wait to go back as there were many things on the menu I wanted to try."

  • "Oxtail pasta was nothing short of amazing! Burrta and fungi pizza was delicious but panzanella was mediocre. Very accommodating with my two small children. Unique cocktail list. "

  • "I have lived in San Francisco for the last five years and only make it back to Roswell a few times a year to visit friends and family. My family tries to find time to go to dinner on Canton Street whenever I return and our recent visit to Osteria Mattone did not disappoint in the slightest! We had tried Table & Main, Ryan Pernice's first restaurant, the year before and loved it. We were eager to see what his Italian Restaurant would have to offer and were impressed by the authentic, delicious Italian offerings and the extensive old world wine list. Having Dan, the sommelier, available to help us chose the perfect bottle of Italian wine to go with a wonderful Pizza Margherita really added to the experience. The oxtail was amazing! "

  • "Met a friend here for a girls' lunch after driving by to/from work as they renovated and prepared to open. We both ordered the zucchini tortelli, and it was absolutely delicious. Just the right portion size, not too heavy or rich - so hard to find that soft, delicious homemade pasta taste and texture that is commonplace in Italy - but they got it right. The foccacia and olive oil served at the table was also tasty (had to get seconds!). My friend and I shared the salted caramel bread pudding because of all the rave reviews. It was memorable but a little heavy for lunch. Will be back, next time on a date with the hubby. Ate on the charming patio on a beautiful day, truly a fabulous dining experience!"

  • "So I wasn't sure what the pizza was going to be like. But we were pleasantly surprised. Thin crust, crispy but really tasty, not doughy at all. My husband had the one with some thin sliced Italian ham and I had the mushroom. I thought we'd have enough to take home for another meal but not so much - we couldn't stop eating it! Some great red wine, a salad, and baba rhum for dessert. Felt like Roma!"

  • "Great new restaurant in Roswell. The owner thought and solved any issues there might have been with acoustics with beautiful barrel ceilings and thick curtains. Even with a full house, easy to hear people in your party and not other diners. Great presentation and very good food. The swordfish was outstanding. Unique wine list. A little pricey (dinner) for Roswell area."

  • "First time we dined at Osteria Mattone we had lunch. Food and service was wonderful. Second time we had dinner. Experience was excellent - waiter was very helpful and great service. Food is very good. My two favorite restaurants in Roswell are now Osteria Mattone and Table and Main."

  • "We have loved Osteria Mattone, but Sunday the service was just off in every area. We walked in 5 minutes before our reservations and the guy at the door said it would be about 10 minutes before our table was ready, no big deal. W go to the bar and it was not busy, but we sat there for at least 5 minutes before the bartender even came over. We ordered drinks and he went about doing other things and talking to others. Finally after nearly 10 minutes flagged him and asked for our drinks, he said he forgot and asked for our order again. After 30 minutes now the host comes over and said it would be another 30 minutes for an outside table. We did not want an outside table and finally got seated. Then the server was so slow. Food was great."

  • "I had 6 girlfriends who I have known since elementary school visit me over Memorial Weekend. I decided to take them to the new restaurant in Roswell that I had heard about. Fantastic! Appetizers (including shrimp, calamari, veal meatballs) were delicious as was the bread we received after being seated. We each loved everything we ordered (some included pizza, carbonara, salmon) and I can't wait to take my husband and local friends back. Big portions so I will share next time since we ordered quite a few appetizers to split among the group. The only reason I didn't rate the service "outstanding" was simply due to the big crowd at the restaurant. Love the restaurant. "

  • "We dined here recently for the first time and were more than pleased. We had reservations and when we got there we asked to sit outside. They honored our request and sat us on the patio that is located in front of the restaurant. We had a waitress who made excellent wine, appetizer, and pasta recommendations. I love being able to get the servers opinions when we haven't tried some place and she was spot on! We had the mozzarella and tomato appetizer, Carbonara pasta entree, and my husband got some sort of seafood past entree. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. We were too stuffed for dessert but the menu looked tempting! We will definitely be back there again soon. "

  • "This is a nice looking restaurant with very comfortable outdoor seating. The service was attentive, the food par with other options in the market. we enjoyed the appetizers over the main courses. I would go back mostly because of the service and the outdoor seating, the food would be secondary."
