Diner Reviews
  • "There are so few nice dining options around the Franconia/Kingstown area, especially if you want to steer clear of chain restaurants. Osteria Marzano is a hidden gem on Beulah near the hospital. I never would have found it had it not been recommended, but I'll definitely be going back! The food was great and they have a excellent bar. There is a great vibe, the ambience is upscale and energetic. I'll be going back A LOT!"

  • "If you want to have seriously great food and atmosphere without trekking into DC, then this is your place. It's a real treat to have such consistently great meals in the Springfield/Franconia area. If you appreciate good food and attention to detail, then you will enjoy yourself very much."

  • "Excellent Ialian restaurant near Springfield Mall was quite a surprise. Diverse menu, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. Strange parking set up. Poor indicators as to main entrance. But menu and cooking are quite fine."

  • "The waiter did an outstanding job.He had good suggestions. The bread is excellent. We had mussels for an appetizer-outstanding! Both our meals were both delicious. The waiter asked how we liked the dessert. it was something like 3,cream puffs, and we told him it was fine, just not our taste (we did eat it all). He offered to bring a different one, which we declined. We will definately return with our foodie son and his girlfriend."

  • "Really good Italian restaurant convenient to Springfield, Alexandria and Annandale area. The ambience is different from what I expected...modern, with clean lines and cool layout. Food was excellent. Shared mussels for an app, then veal marsala and fettuccine with a veal Bolognese sauce. Great dishes. Cannoli and brûlée for desert with good coffee. Couldn't ask for a better meal. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgable. Owners daughter stopped by to chat, a nice touch. Restaurant seemed full on a Saturday night, a good sign. Nice to see this type of restaurant in the area. Will return!"

  • "Delicious food. Great service. Great prices. Bar scene is a bit noisy and makes conversation tough."

  • "Excellent special occasion choice. We were there for almost four hours! The entire staff (the hostesses, the bar, waitress, and owner) was engaged and focused on making each customer feel welcome. We enjoyed the Tagliere di Formaggi. The chardonnay was crisp, "green" and delectable. Our meal choices (Veal Scalloppine, Branzino, Chicken Parmigiana, and, Fettuccine alla Bolognese di Vitello) were wonderfully prepared and came from the kitchen while still hot. Our waitress was superb. She observed from a discreet distance, was not intrusive, and adroitly swooped in to remove plates and refill drinks. Desserts were well prepared and authentic (crème brulee, tiramisu) and the carrot cake was filled with nuts, raisins, and not too sweet."

  • "I had seen a newspaper review of the restaurant and ordered two dishes that the reviewer recommended. Each one was super delicious, especially the bonet dessert. The service was inobtrusive and we were given second glasses of club soda without being charged for them. Also excellent espresso!"

  • "The service was most professional and very friendly. It was very easy to make reservations on line with a call back the day before as a reminder. Well done!"

  • "We loved the ambience and modern decor, especially the long bar and friendly bartender, Gus. Prices are not cheap, more like DC prices than suburban Va. The upscale Italian menu is extensive, and I was pleased to see gluten-free pasta offered. I'm not picky, but others in our party were and they were unhappy to learn that substitutions are not permitted. When pressed, our server said substitutions could be made for a $2 fee. I found the no substitution rule unusual for a restaurant of this caliber. We felt rushed. Our server made a point of telling us our table had been booked for the next time slot and told us the specials as soon as we were seated and before two of our party arrived, "to save time." We all enjoyed the food."

  • "This was our first time dining at Osteria Marzano and I couldn't have been more pleased. The location is a little remote but not hard to find and worth the trouble. The restaurant is beautifully decorated -- very current, a little modern but not too much, ambience, a great bar, good service -- and above all -- great food! Highly recommend and we look forward to our next visit very soon."

  • "Aa super dining experience. The menu is fantastic with something for everyone, even the picky. We had ravioli stuffed with short ribs, lasagna and a shrimp pasta dish and we were quite happy with the selections. Check out the antipasti of a platter of different sausages. Their wine list is first rate and reasonably priced. You can find decent wines at $40 and under per bottle. The place is noisy. This sound trend is unfortunate in its incarnation at Osteria Marzanon ---but not enough to make it an unhappy situation. The food, the service, the price points are quite fair for the high quality. I'll be back to try more adventurous items on the menu."

  • "The food here was really good. I plan on going back there to try other things on the menu. The salmon dish I got was so tasty. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the fingerling potatoes the dish was served with were delicious. The restaurant does draw a crowd, but there was still plenty of free parking available. It was sleek and nice inside. The bar area was really popular. I would definitely recommend Osteria Marzano for a nice dinner night out. I would not recommend bringing children."

  • "Our party of 4 dined at Osteria Manzano on a Friday night. There was a lively crowd there but we were sited promptly on the long bench wall. Our server was attentive without rushing us and all four of our entrees were delicious! The decor was very attractive but the noise level was significant. That said we'll definitely return. We're so glad to finally have a restaurant of this quality in the Springfield area."

  • "I have served in the Army overseas in Italy twice for a total of more than 7 years, and have traveled there multiple times over the past 30 years. I have tried different Italian restaurants in every location I have lived in my life (over 15 moves), and I will tell you that this restaurant's food is the best Italian I have had outside of Italy. It is not far from our house, and so because of convenience, I am finding myself wanting to eat here more times (a week) than I really should. Do not hesitate to try Osteria Marzano - you will not be disappointed"

  • "This was my second time to this restaurant. The first time was fine this was not. I went with 3 of my friends. We were given menus but not the lunch special which costs $10.00, I had to ask for it 3 times. I asked if they discontinued that offer. The response was no and it finally arrived. Service was SLOW. One of my friends stopped someone and ask for service. We placed our drink orders and waited forever for them. The salads were served with the food, not what we expected. My food was good. One of my friends was disappointed with her food. She said that it was not hot and lacked enough sauce. The co-owner asked how everything was and we told her about our experience. I will give it one more try- maybe."

  • "After reading some excellent reviews, my husband and I booked a table for two on a Sunday evening to celebrate an anniversary. The service was excellent, however the food was uneven. Deliciously fresh and properly dressed salads. Entrees, however, were a bit spotty. My husband ordered a special spicy pasta with shrimp and lobster that was delicious. I ordered the risotto with scallops special. The risotto was under seasoned and bland and topped with watery scallops that completely lacked flavor. The wait staff handled the situation well and I was offered a complimentary dessert - a vanilla gelato topped with espresso that was nice. I'll give Osteria Marzano another try but not on a Sunday evening when the A team has the night off."

  • "We brought two friends after a great past experience on our own. Everything was going perfectly until one of the dishes came out wrong. But here they showed they can handle a mistake and turn it into a positive. The owner came over quickly and sincerely apologized and gave the exact amount of time for the correct dish to arrive. Immediately behind the owner was a nice salad to tide him over. The correct dish came out in the time they said and it was excellent, like our other 3 dishes. At dessert our waiter (who had admitted it was his mistake) offered free dessert - nutella pizza anyone? When the bill came the late dish was free as was the salad and the dessert. We didn't have to ask for any of it. We all agreed we'd be back"

  • "Dining at Osteria Marzano is always a pleasure. The food is absolutely exceptional; the specials are always so appealing and never disappoint- bravo to Chef Carmine! A very important thing to note was that my past review that expressed a bit of let down with our service did not go ignored. The owner, Elena, graciously approached the table when I arrived and informed me that she had read my feedback. I was so impressed by the attention to my concern and touched by her sincerity. I will definitely be returning again and again in support of such a fantastic restaurant."

  • "Located in an unobtrusive place, this restaurant is well worth looking for. Exceptional and authentic Italian cooking, elegant food and reasonable prices, both adult special and kid-friendly all at the same time. We'll be back again and again and again."

  • "My wife had heard about how great this new local Italian restaurant was and had been wanting to try it. I surprised her on her birthday along with our daughter and son-in-law who was also celebrating a birthday. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a good evening and we were not disappointed. The chef/owner came out to our table twice and the second time we got to give the chef our compliments. Everyone was really impressed with the quality and taste of the different courses. Highly recommended."

  • "Very good food. It is Italian, but not grandma's cooking and therefore is fairly sophisticated. I always ask for the specialties and one reliable, old favorite for comparison. The antipasto or apetizer, the special seafood salad and the tuna carpaccio I would rate a 9 out of 10, with 10 highest. The segundi, the other specialty, the lobster and spinach ravioli cooked in butter and white wine (I think) were to die for. One is enough for two people and WOW! Definitely a 10 out of 10. The segundi, Osso Bucci was from the regular menu and was very good. A bit more modern, perhaps a hint of Spanish, than the usual Northern Italian that would have the fennel and tomatoes. 8.5 out of 10. I will return, hopefully often."

  • "Don't let the Office Park setting put you off. This establishment is a local bright spot in the Northern Virginia food scene. Great meal, good wine selection, would recommend for any accasion. The Risotto with scallops and asparagus, a daily special, was superb."

  • "The DJ is a little much before 9 pm. Service was great. Negroni-excellent. Polpette with creamiest ricotta I've had in a long time was was tender and delicious. The rosemary foccaia in the bread basket was delicious. Hubby had the pizza with proscuitto and arugula, which he reported to be good, but the crust was too thick. I had the fettucine alfredo, which was very good- the sauce was not glumpy, and the pasta was handmade and perfectly cooked. I added grilled chicken to mine, so the dish came out with a sliced breast of chicken atop the pasta. It would be better if the kitchen had chopped the chicken and incorporated it into the dish instead of just sitting it on top. But that's my only complaint. All in all, an excellent meal!"

  • "Osteria Marzano is the best Italian restaurant in the area. The food is authentic, fresh and perfectly prepared. For me, a good indicator of a "real" Italian restaurant is the quality of their prociutto; OM not only has the highest quality prosciutto but they slice it to order, not ahead of time. They often have "home made" sausage and offer a wide range of handmade pastas and pizza. Once you taste their food you understand the difference! The wait staff are informed and attentive and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food. Their wine list is outstanding. There is nothing about the place to complain about, even the ladies room is cool! They get quite busy at dinner so reservations are a good idea."

  • "OM brings a high quality Italian restaurant to the backwaters of Springfield which is in sore need of such establishments. Excellent cuisine and service. The seating is a touch cramped and the tables are close together. There is a more spacious back room. All in all a tremendous addition to the neighborhood with extremely friendly and knowledgeable management."

  • "Excellent food. Probably the best Italian food since I lived in Italy (for almost 6 years). If you have not tried it yet, get to it ASAP. And on Sunday's, wine is 1/2 price. A MUST visit"

  • "The appetizers ordered were Grilled Octopus Salad, which was very tender, and Ahi Tuna Carpaccio, delicious as well but too few slices for the price. One of us ordered the rabbit special and the rest of us had veal cooked in various styles, All of the entrees were perfectly cooked. The portions for the breaded veal, and grilled veal chop were generous. The chocolate chip gelato was a perfect ending to a very tasty dinner."

  • "We went early, with a reservation, and got a table near the bar, rather than in the dining room. Our waiter was distracted but hit all the high spots. The food was spectacular. We'll definitely go back. By the time we left (maybe 7 PM) the place was packed, and even people with reservations were being told they would have to wait a bit. So we will not be shy about getting there early, with a reservation, next time!!"

  • "Service was good. However, the waiter DID NOT bring the free b'day tiramisu for my son when we ordered the nutella pizza for dessert. I forgot about this, but my son did not as he told me in our car on our way home. He was disappointed."

  • "Some of the worst service I have had at a restaurant in the DC metro area. After sitting down we were told we must move to another table in a noisy room because the people who had been seated there had a "personal issue" with the noise. We arrived to find the table dirty and covered with crumbs, and stood there for 10 minutes while it was finally cleaned. We then waited 15 minutes for a waitress to come by our table, and that was only after complaining to the owner who told my husband, "I do not like confrontation." In spite of the good food at this restaurant we will not return and will advise others to avoid this establishment."

  • "Had a great dinner but very bizarre experience with the waiter. My friend and I were in deep conversation (she was telling me about her serious health issues) and were not moving fast enough for the waiter. He came to the table numerous times and each time we let him know we hadn't looked at the menu. I ordered a drink and when he brought my wine he stated that we needed to order because there is a two hour maximum at the table on Friday and Saturday and we were already seated for 30 minutes. I looked at my watch and firstly it was only 20 minutes and secondly I could find this rule nowhere on their website or open table. I promised him we would take care of him on the tip and we promptly ordered. This was my 5th visit and 1st issue"

  • "I believe this is maybe the 10th or so time we've dined here. We've never has any issues. Unfortunately, the way we were treated on this particular occasion was enough to make us consider never returning. Upon arrival no one was at the host stand. After a few minutes a woman came towards us and seemingly knowing the two men behind us decided to greet them and carry on a conversation before even acknowledging us. After another awkward minute or two the woman- who I later found out is the owner- looked at us as if we were bothersome and asked if someone helped us. As she seated us she said 'Is this your first time here?' in the most condescending tone. She ruined it for us. The food and our server were great. She is awful."
