The main dining room is in a basement, and a little dark. And, it's billed as an Italian restaurant, but they don't serve pasta. Went to NYC in December and ate at 7 different restaurants that came highly acclaimed and this little Italian place was better than anything we tried in NYC. First visit was a fantastic experience and we will definitely look forward to our next opportunity to dine there. This is a place with a variety of dining options....great antipasti selections (diners could find total satisfaction with a plethora of these goodies and a bottle of wine!), salads, pizzas, paninis, and a few select entrees. The reviews we read before our dinner in the city were spot on....this place is totally awesome! Oh, yes, and the caramel bread pudding finale was delightful....the experience here, created the perfect segue to our Andrea Bocelli concert! We had had good Italian in a while and it sound delicious. But, if you are wanting normal past dishes, you will be disappointed. If you want great Italian food that has cheese made in-house (their mozzarella is to die for), hand made pizza crusts, and a killer wine list you will be in heaven. Our server was awesome, even if he didn't come by that often. We saw him though, as he was everywhere. The poor guy was so busy and running around constantly. They seated us in a section of the restaurant that was out of the way and ideal for a large party. Our server was great, quite knowledgeable about wine offerings which were all excellent paired with our meal and quite reasonably priced - I had intentionally planned on ordering a couple of 2004 Montelpulcianos when she came back and said they received a couple of 2001 bottles that we could get for the same price and they were amazing. Food options at Osterio Marco are ideally suited for a large group - lots of large plate appetizers, charcuterie and pizzas for sharing. All in all an excellent experience, will definitely do it again, whether it's just the two of us or a large group.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOur out-of-town group loved itWe wanted a place where we could meet first at the bar and then move to dinner with a smaller group, and it worked perfectly. The hostess accommodated the changing number of people and seated us in a quiet place (as requested in the reservation). We were there on Sunday night and some of us had the delicious roasted pork special. Bread service, is $1.50 extra but better than I've ever had in Italy. Great way for tourists to avoid the 16th Street Mall. For entrées, my wife had lamb meatballs and they were delicious. I had a pizza and it was fine, though I'll probably try something else next time. The wine was excellent and reasonably priced. For appetizers, I had meatball sliders and my wife had cauliflower soup. Both were very good and we'd order both dishes again. We ate outside, so we didn't have a chance to experience the inside dining area, but the patio dining is very pleasant and provides a great people-watching experience. The waitstaff are well trained and efficient - very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is fun. This is not a romantic spot, but it's fun and definitely worth going.

Paninis, pizzas, salads and a handful of entrees each boast mouth-watering temptations. The meat platter included four delicious flavors, some meats cured in-house, others from New York. Beet salad was well-balanced and light. Carne pizza was tasty but otherwise unremarkable. Rabbit entree was among my top ten entrees ever--so well-balanced, nothing stuck out. We found it here at Osteria Marco! We shared the mushroom and truffle oil pizza for an appetizer and it was outstanding! Four very different entrees, all winners, including the famous lamb meatballs, the seared scallops, the steelhead, and a special of braised rabbit. We had the wine manager help with a wine selection, and he couldn't have been better, offering a great suggestion that was exactly what we were looking for. The service, especially our waiter Brent, was excellent and fast, and this was on a very busy Saturday night. They had the table set in a nice area away from everyone. The food was on point ! I could tell the ingredients that were used were of fine quality. Having no prior knowledge going in, I was a little surprised to find that although it was Italian as I'd assumed, there was no pasta on the menu. Mostly gourmet pizza and paninis. Just caught me a little by surprise. We had the homemade Buratta, and their House Sausage pizza, and Fig pizza. All just amazing, but the Fig pizza took the prize!
The setting is beautiful, but I found myself wishing it were a little bit quieter for dinner conversation. But the ambiance really worked with the surrounding decor.
