Diner Reviews
  • "great place for a business lunch -- fast service and very good food."

  • "2nd visit, a month after first. Still pleased with ambiance & service, and food "solidly" tasty -- 2 out of 3 in the party had grilled salmon and considered it "first rate". Only complaint -- restaurant was very warm, leaving us too uncomfortable to linger post-dinner for coffee, etc. Bar looked pleasant and surprisingly un-crowded on a Friday evening; plan to come back and check it out."

  • "Gnocchi were homemade like mom's from argentina- grilled calamari salad was perfect. Portions are just right- great place - will return!"

  • "We are locals and were surprised to discover this pleasant, tasty, and relatively calm restaurant hiding in plain sight just blocks from Grand Central Station. Went on a Friday evening when special Valentine's dinner menu was being served. The 2 college freshman who were with us enjoyed the service, 'elegance' (an especially nice break from dorm life!) and special Valentine's day touches (including, upon departure, a single stem rose wrapped in a ribbon). Standards like grilled salmon and crème brulee more than passed muster, and the valentine's lobster tail salad was substantial. All in all, a quiet but festive evening, with good food and service. We'll be going back."

  • "Truly miserable food. Upscale Olive Garden atmosphere. Veal Saltimbocca overdone and wrapped in bacon ? DON'T go here. I give it 12 months."

  • "The lamb ragout with tagliatelle was excellent as was the tiramisu. Having a ripasso by the glass was a nice touch as well. Bar was noisy and my table was fairly close, but I still enjoyed the meal. Service was proficient."

  • "Well prepared food, with a few interesting twists. Gets pretty busy at night, even during weekdays, so come early! Don't recommend eating outdoors, unless sitting on top of 42nd st traffic is your thing. Nice and quiet for lunch (big Pfizer crowd..it's next door.)"

  • "The service was excellent. Our waitress was very helpful, with a lovely personality. The bruschetta and the fritto mist were both very tasty. Eggs benedict was simply delicious, served with just right french fries and a mixed greens salad. We finished our meal with a creme brûlée that was enjoyed by all. A perfect place for brunch."

  • "Very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food at Osteria LaGuna. The minestrone soup was so fresh and healthy...also loved the salmon salad, can you tell I was on a diet. I am coming back to enjoy the wonderful pasta dishes and dessert that I saw others enjoying."

  • "Never knew this place was here, but glad to find it. Nice array of appetizers and salads to start. Good pastas along with skirt steak. Chianti Reserva wine was delicious and reasonable on a manageable wine list. Almond cannoli was an awesome way to end the meal."

  • "Osteria is a great place to go for a relaxing meal near Grand Central Terminal. We commute in and out of the city, and enjoy having such a great gem of a place near the terminal. It's one of our regulars."

  • "I work a block away from Osteria Laguna, so I pass this restaurant every single day. Always so crowed with "Business Type". So I thought it would be too High End for me. Make the reservation anyway(for 4), because it was a good friends birthday. From the second we walked in the door, the young lady was very pleasent and friendly, the wait staff was PERFECT. Took care of our every need. And to top it off, THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT!!! Great portion size and super fresh. Dessert make me feel like I was in heaven. Needless to say, my Co-worker's birthday lunch was a success, she ready enjoyed herself! Thanks Osteria Laguna."

  • "Went for lunch. Made sure to make reservations. Menu was varied, great friendly service, food we ordered was excellent and the price wasn't cheap, but not unreasonable. I would definitely go back again."

  • "Good food close to grand central. Nice overall. Not loud even when full. You can actually have a dinner conversation. Grilled seafood was excellent! Attentive friendly wait staff. Wine prices reasonable. Excellent value for NYC midtown. Only down side was rude surly hostess. We left an item on Thursday called and asked if they found a bag. Hostess said Yeah but you have to pick uo within two days or I throw it out! Her attitude killed any chance of a return visit."

  • "Was pleasantly surprised that the Branzino dish was perfectly cooked. Others also enjoyed their respective dishes. Everything was very tasty. Very attentive staff. Only negative was that it was so noisy we could not hear each other across the table and we had to shout."

  • "My group (six women) had a terrific time at Osteria Laguna last Friday evening. The food was wonderful. We also experienced great service from the waitstaff. We were getting together for a post-holiday dinner, and appreciated having a table away from the crowd so we could really "visit". We also were happy that we were not being rushed through our evening. It was truly a delightful evening."

  • "Needed a place near GCT, but really haven't liked the Oyster Bar, so tried this out based on other reviews in Open Table. It's a great space and staff was very nice, but the food was very disappointing. Soup and risotto were both very mediocre. Cookie given at end of meal were stale. Perhaps it's better just to go for drinks."

  • "My family and I had dinner here on Christmas Eve while visiting the city for the holidays. Everything was fantastic. Our service was attentive without being overwhelming and gave great recommendations on wine and food. All 4 of us had fantastic entrees. I personally recommend the Petto D'Antara in Agrodolce (Seared Duck Breast). It was probably the best meal I had the entire trip."

  • "I very much enjoyed the shared appetizers consisting of a caprese salad and grilled octopus. The main course, paapardelle with a veal ragu was somewhat dissapointing. The noodles were cooked properly but the sauce was flat and near tasteless. The service was attentive but not obtrusive."
    Dined on 1/7/2014
  • "We had some good salads here topped off by some very good seared tuna. Tables were spaced far apart, allowing plenty of room for private conversation despite the generally loud noise level at lunch. Service was fine (if nothing special), and while the food wasn't top notch, it was perfectly adequate for a reasonably priced business lunch."

  • "My family ate dinner on Monday night following a full day in the city. We chose the restaurant for its close proximity to our hotel and based on diner's reviews. The front door staff was friendly and welcoming. Our waiter did his job, that's about it. He did not make us feel welcome. The food was good but portions were very small and the dishes looked like they had been sitting for a while before being brought out to us. We waited a while to have our plates cleared and in fact changed our mind about staying for dessert during the wait. Next time we will look for another option."

  • "We were there on Christmas Eve with our two children who were the youngest guests there. Our waitress was very friendly and patient. We were not aware, that the price was including service, so we have added a tip - our waitress told us about it and gave us the overpaid amount back, which I found very fair. Food was on a good level; we have had soup, bruschetti and pasta. It was a little bit noisy, maybe because there were some larger groups of guests."

  • "Osteria is a very nice place to have dinner with friends. Very vibrant, lots of conversations and people having a great time with eachother. Food was great. Service attentive but not overly so. I recommend it to anyone who likes great food and a relaxong place to go with friends."

  • "We chose this to meet friends coming in at Grand Central. It is a cheery place. I have been here for lunch, which is a big business scene. At night, it seems to be mostly out of towners, probably because it is close to many hotels. Service was slow to start but then attentive, when it became clear we were going to order wine, etc. My seafood stew was just great, with every piece cooked to perfection. Generous bread baskets. Very good cocktails. Very decent prices. A good evening and recommended if you want a pleasant meal at a fair price in a good location."

  • "I made reservations at Osteria Laguna because its sister restaurant, Osteria Al Doge, in Times Square had no availability for 8. This location is very convenient if you plan to take the train from Grand Central after dinner (it is 2 blocks away from GC on the 42nd. We were able to easily converse. The holiday decorations were beautiful. The hostess was very friendly and sat us before our reservation time (the table was already set up). Our server was very efficient and the food arrived at the same time for everyone in the group. And the FOOD - it was delicious! Pizza, foccacia, veal medallions, half roasted chicken were the clear winners. Our 8-year old friend asked for her leftovers "to go" - need I say more. Two thumbs up!"

  • "Have dined at this restaurant several times over the past few years. The bartender was very friendly and made a great pomegranite martini. Love the decor at the front of the restaurant, and the Christmas decorations were a nice festive touch. Ask about the $25.00 prix fix menu which is noted on their website; the waiter did not offer it until I asked. Good selections. I had the shellfish stew and asked that the mussels be taken out, which was not a problem. Other diners had the salmon ravioli and the chicken. All really enjoyed their meals. All in all, it was a great night out!"

  • "We were excited to dine at this restaurant, however: we were charged extra for water we were not informed of; we waited long for our bruschetta appetizer and then AN HOUR for our main course; the waiter never checked up on us so we had to hope he looked in our direction so we could get his attention; the water forgot one of our desserts, but when informed, the waiter brought over an awful creme brulee with the top being RUBBERY and curdled underneath. This waiter's other tables also waited very long for their food, but other waiters' diners who came after us got their food before us. The restaurant was beautiful, the food was good, the coffee delicious, and prices were decent, but the service made our whole dining experience not enjoyable"

  • "After my first time eating at this restaurant, I was not overly impressed with the food having lived in Italy and the restaurant was quiet loud. On a second visit I sat in the front which is quieter, and ordered the lasagna and loved it!! Enjoyed the bread basket, pasta dish and service. On this last visit, the restaurant was busier so service was less attentive and the lasagna a bit salty, but would return. Nice atmosphere"
