Diner Reviews
  • "Went for a birday dinner, food was great, nice location, spacious and not noisy at all and was a pleasurable evening. Would go back again to try something else for the good sized menu."

  • "Osteria never fails to have a solid menu plus a host of interesting specials. The food is carefully prepared and delicious. This location is less hectic at dinner time than the theater district branch. Busier at lunchtime."

  • "This place was ok. Nothing grabbed me as great or terrible. Solid."

  • "Osteria Laguna is a must in Midtown East, food is delicious and staff is tops and prices are perfect for what you get. The one and only one aspect they could improve on is noise level. Ask for the most quiet table available, and you'll be happy to have chosen Osteria Laguna."

  • "Loved it. Started with the hostess, no rush with the reservation. The bartender was super attentive, we never waited for a drink. The free finger foods at the bar were better than most places meals. The dinner was awesome!"

  • "Its people are really friendly and effective, every last one, and the food is delicious. Only drawback: a bit noisy for my liking, i guess it's the natural consequence of it being such a good restaurant and with excellent price-benefit. I am a regular customer, i consider Osteria Laguna a must."

  • "My frequent lunchtime companion and I couldn't enjoy catching up the other day over fantastic homemade pasta with seafood because of the noise level. You might as well go to Osteria Laguna alone. I'm not sure what makes it so loud; maybe it's the sheer size of the place or all the suits who lunch there. The food is wonderful, the staff attentive, the flowers gorgeous. Now, if only... Maybe try going very early or very late for lunch, or just go with someone you want to stare at in wordless admiration?"

  • "Very high quality, fresh food. Good risotto. Italian dishes were excellent."

  • "Very good pasta and salads. We had the spinach salad, the ravioli di al pomodoro and the spaghetti alle vongole. All of the dishes were excellent. The pomodoro sauce was very light and the pasta was very fresh. The restaurant layout is also very welcoming with large farm tables that are well spaced. The service was very attentive. I would recommend it for both lunch or dinner."

  • "All I can say is awesome! I had dinner with 2 other people and every dish was amazing. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I told my friends about this restaurant and I look forward to my next dinner here."

  • "Ordered lasagna and it was basically mush. The lasagna noodles were so overcooked all I could taste was cheese and the meat sauce. I mentioned that to waitress and was told that's how lasagna is supposed to be! I could have just ordered meat sauce with cheese and saved the calories of the noodles."

  • "We had dinner with our two kids. Pizza and pasta (with lamb ragout) were really good craftsmanship, delicious and very much à point. Desserts (chocolate creme) rich, sweet and tatsty (apart from this very nice to see). The wine list is not very long (and does not show an appropriate picture of Italy) but has some good choices by the bottle and by the glass. Service was experiencend and at the same time open-minded and friendly. Tables (like the Michelin already stated) are very small, so be careful with sugos and glasses."

  • "This restaurant is by my office, and is always a first choice. Love the staff, the food, the ambience...you can always count on it!"

  • "Met an old friend there, he had never been there and absolutely loved it. The food, the atmosphere and our waitress was great. Very attentive and we were very pleased. My friend and I agreed to come back and work our way thru the menu. We especially loved the ricotta focaccia."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "I love the freshness of the ingredients. The food is very tasty and the wine list provides a good complement. Appetizers are a good size, with interesting combinations. Pizzas are always are delicious with light crust and savory toppings. Decor works both for business and special occasions."

  • "Took a first date here based on reviews and a it's close proximity to Grand Central Station. Was a little nervous about places in that area being over-priced and crappy. This place lived up to it's good reviews; good Italian food, nice presentation, friendly and smiling staff. If you're in the area and wanna know a safe bet try Osteria Laguna!"

  • "It took us a long time to decide between the wonderful menu items, then we heard the specials...even better. The house made pasta was incredible and the scallops special my wife got was a work of art. Scallops with fennel, two colors of beets, grapefruit, mixed greens. It was fantastic and a reasonably priced meal."

  • "A nice oasis in the middle of the city. Great location near Grand Central. Food was very good for all three diners."

  • "So loud I couldn't hear my friend or the waiter. Tables on top of each other."

  • "The food was pretty good and it is a great price range for this neighborhood which can get way too pricey. We went later in the evening so it was quiet and we were not rushed. However, the service was not great may our waitress was tired after a long shift. there were a number of really nice priced bottles of wine and we had a delicious Pinot Grigio for $39!"

  • "The food was ok, nothing special. During our meal there was a drip from the ceiling air conditioning vent. When we pointed this out to the staff, they were completley indifferent. The person who was affected by the drip was able to move to a different seat at the table, but the staff offered no help, no sympathy and no offer to move us to a different table. That is not good customer service."

  • "This was the best Italian food that I've had in ages! The gnocchi was amazing. I'm going back again before my trip to NYC is over and I never double dip! Great find!!"

  • "I was going to have dinner with a friend and found this place online. The decor/ambiance was nice. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered two appetizers to share with each other: mozzarella di bufalo caprese and bruschetta al pomodoro. The mozzarella was amazing. Our waiter mentioned that it's fresh mozzarella imported from Italy. The bruschetta was OK...I've had better. As for dinner, my friend had ravioli di salmone and I had the lasagna alla bolognese. My friend loved the ravioli, she wiped the plate clean! I loved the lasagna, the sauce was very creamy. I can't comment on the desserts as we were too stuffed to eat anything else. Overall we had a wonderful dinner. I would definitely recommend this place!"

  • "I usually go here with a friend and I love it never had an issue. However; I took about 8 people here the other night as I had visitors from out of town and the service was simply horrible as it was also so hot. I had to keep asking the waitress for things she never came over to see how we are doing and of course the tip is included when you bring more than 6 people so they she probably didn't care. That annoys me. Food is always amazing."

  • "This restaurant is a lovely, warm inviting spot; I loved the natural wood tables and white candles. Seating on and near the sidewalk looked beautiful and romantic, but we sat inside which was also lovely. The owner/manager was very solicitous and courteous to the elderly woman in our party, and our wait staff were very competent. We had salads and pasta dishes which were delicious. This is a restaurant I would be happy to visit again. "

  • "I was looking for a $$ place near GCT and found it here. Arrived early and seated immediately. Had I thought it through though, I would have asked to be moved further back due to the noise level (looked like it got quieter further from the bar area). The decor and service were warm and welcoming; the food was good, not great; nice portions. "

  • "Be sure not to waste any here. I booked a reservation, was there on time and the gentleman that seated me was at best rude. Is was not busy as I ate early, so why was he Rufe? Food was no more than average. I had pork tenderloin with pear and asparagus, the pear was really good but the pork was over cooked and the sauce salty. The potatoes that were served were not real definitely from a box. So many great Italian places in New York I would find another to try next time. "

  • "Given it's location on 42nd street - they serve better Italian than we should deserve. Its friendly, lively and the menu covers the basics and more - and does so very well. I had the PAPPARDELLE CON RAGÚ D’AGNELLO - and it was lush with big pieces of lamb. My lunch date had the GRIGLIATA MISTA DI PESCE which was overflowing with seafood. Both were delicious and much better than the average pasta joint (puts Esca to shame). So if you want enjoyable Italian on East 42nd st. this is the ideal choice. "

  • "Osteria Laguna has great food and the wait staff are always willing to accomodate your requests if at all possible. Great place to take or meet friends for a friendly view of New York."

  • "I have no clue why some people like this place. There were three of us and we all shared eveything, and all agreed about the quality of the food. The seafood pasta, had old, overcooked seafood. The pizzas weren't good at all. The service was poor. I would not recommend this place to anyone. "

  • "I have visited this restaurant approximately 5 times over the past 8 years and they served a wonderful dinner each time. Some aspect has always exceeded my expectations; the other night it was the tomato and buffalo mozzarella appetizer - so much better than most would expect. Very convenient location, near Grand Central. "

  • "Cooked to perfection. I also asked for no mussels and so they gave extra clams."

  • "Pleasant traditional decor, staple dishes with some flair and attentive service make this a good business lunch spot in midtown. The corner banquette for two is in the back is my favorite seat in the house."
