Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious intimate dinner for two. Excellent pasta, very fresh."

  • "Being from New York, my expectations for a Italian meal here are often low. But Osteria La Buca brings back old school Italian classic cooking with a modern twist. You gotta love their appetizer brussel sprouts, kale salads balanced with traditional Chicken Parmesan. We sat upstairs with the open roof on a perfect summer night as the sun set. Service was outstanding, attentive and relaxed. The braised short ribs were a treat, flavorful and not overwhelming. The vegetarian entre was spicy and full of flavor, satisfying for a vegetarian main dish. I hadn't been to La Buca in a while, and I'm definitely a fan. Want to bring my kid here for pizza. Great neighborhood place, welcoming for everyone. Solid food, great service and they get it right."

  • "My boyfriend and I had an early reservation (5:30 p.m.) to go to a show after, so the restaurant was very quiet at first, with just a few locals at the bar and a couple tables. We were given options for seating and superb attention by the wait staff. I ordered a specialty drink off the menu and liked it so much, I ordered another (sorry....I've forgotten which one!). My boyfriend one of the craft beers on tap and loved it. I ordered the pasta dish with the egg on top (Delicious!!!) and my boyfriend ordered the special of the day which was a spicy tomato risotto with shrimp. The quality of the food is unmatched. Attention to detail with everything they do does not go unnoticed. Perfect for casual or dressed up. This is a 5 start all the way!"

  • "My friend and I sat upstairs, which was great for a quiet, catch-up visit. I had two appetizers for dinner. The octopus was perfectly cooked: toothsome and delicious. I love the concept of the egg on the brussel sprouts, which were charred and tasty, but the egg white didn't seem cooked at all. Maybe that was intentional on the part of the chef; if so, that should be indicated on the menu or by the wait staff. It was still good, though. I had a bite of my friend's Caesar salad, which was also very good: just the right acidi bite. The wait staff was attentive and friendly; we appreciated being able to linger downstairs over a cup of coffee while we finished our visit."

  • "I have eaten here 3 or 4 times and never been disappointed. The dishes are always so tasty, the ambiance is warm and light and the staff very professional and attentive. Great entrees, tasty appetizers and delicious desserts. And great wine choices. I will continue to dine at this restaurant."

  • "Loved the food and ambiance - not your typical LA restaurant, a step above without being pretentious. Will go again, for sure."

  • "I came back after having a good experience the first time to discover the food was just as good the second time. My trout was awesome. Perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and fairly attentive. The only thing negative is the place can get noisy, but it's worth it. It's the perfect neighborhood place for a dinner or late night drink. Casual unprotenxiois but very cool."

  • "Very tasty Southern Italian food. Don't miss the brussel sprouts. Share the short rib raviolis - they are delizioso but really rich. Really friendly service."

  • "All around winner for service, atmosphere, staff, friendliness and food. Standouts on the menu include the short rib ravioli, Idaho trout, the pizzas and really fresh salads. A big "grazie" for the chicken parmesan now being on the permanent menu, because as a special it consistently sold out - usually minutes before we stepped in the door)."

  • "Dined here for lunch as was quite surprised at the amount of noise within the establishment given the place was about a little over half full. Struggling to hear people talk is often something that keeps me from returning to restaurants. Food, Ambience, Service can all be top notch but are more often than not they are undercut by either loud music or just the structure that makes sound bounce around easily."

  • "La Buca, in the heart of the studio era and home to solid flavor, big wine, and fresh pasta. The decor is reminiscent of the loft of an urban hipster. A Los Angeles gem. Groovy and yummy."

  • "Haven't been in awhile but took clients there looking for a great Italian meal and OLB did not disappoint. The Ravioli is excellent... the Rigatoni superb... the vino...divino. Had a great time and the service was as expected. Cant wait to go back!"

  • "Lat time at Osteria La Buca I wrote that it would be my go to neighborhood place if I lived in the area. Happy to write that I still feel that way about this wonderful, a bit quirky place, where the food is fantastic and the atmosphere authentically cool without trying. Great comfort food. Homemade pasta. Loved the Chicken Parmesan, the pizzas, the salads, the whole shebang."

  • "My first time at Osteria was a lunch with friends. The food was delicious -- inventive and well presented. The selection of wines by the glass was good, and my chardonnay was great. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The decor is a bit rough (especially in the harsh light of noon), but perhaps it has more charm in evening's light. I would go back for the food above all. Really good."

  • "We visited Osteria La Buca for my husband's birthday recently and it was incredible. My husband has high standards when it comes to restaurants and Osteria La Buca made an impression. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was classy but still made you feel at home. The food was fresh both in quality and concept. The Short Rib Ravioli was delicious and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts could revolutionize this "dissed on" vegetable's reputation for the masses. I suggest you get on over to this delightful neighborhood eatery and enjoy!!"

  • "The food was delicious, but the portion size is so small in this place. We left the place unsatisfied even after a desert. "

  • "Went for a very early 5 pm reservation with a well behaved 3 year old. I wouldn't say it's ideal for young kids but they were very friendly and welcoming. The service was great especially considering the price point. Everything we asked for was done and more. The food was very good particularly the burrata appetizer. The lamb rigatoni was rich and so tender. The other pasta dishes were clearly house made and very fresh. We ordered the butterscotch pudding which was to die for, the tiramisu was very nice, but I would skip the somewhat bland biscotti. The decor was unique and beautiful, and my son loved checking out the motorcycle helmets."

  • "The short rib ravioli was exceptional, as was the bucatini carbonara. The food was exceptional served in a hipster kind of environment. The meal was complimented with a very nice Barolo that didn't break the bank. Great restaurant. Was going to go to osteria Mozza but they were booked. The food was superior to theirs. Great find. Was concerned about the neighborhood but the restaurant filled up and felt like it was the right choice. I came over from Pasadena. We have great restaurants there and you guys definitely did not disappoint "

  • "You can tell the pasta was made fresh just hours before it's served. Staff is knowledgable and doesn't hover, but is always there when you want them. Great vibe and valet is only 5$ if you need it."

  • "We decided last minute to visit Osteria La Buca last minute mid-week for dinner. We have been here a few times and each time the food has been spectacular. The service is great and friendly and was very accommodating to me, my wife, and toddler son. It was just a great night thanks to the food, the ambience, and just how friendly everyone was. We love this restaurant and cannot wait to go back."

  • "The portions were ridiculously small. The bread serve for a table of four was smaller that a D battery. The amount of the gnocchi was pathetic. The waitress showed no interest in our table. Drinks were left empty. Just not impressed especially for th eprice."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The Italian Prosecco by the glass was really good! Highly recommend the brussels sprouts, squash blossoms and caramel desert."

  • "Great food! Their cocktails were ... meh. The waitress seemed a little overwhelmed but was still polite and professional. Total came out to ~ $70 for 2 people (including tip). I'd go again but maybe during the week."

  • "The food and the service was great! It wasn't too crowded our loud in there. We had three starters: pork meatballs, calamari, and the ricotta crochettes. The ricotta crochettes were such a nice surprise, drizzled with a little honey and rosemary. The meatballs were huge and the romesco sauce was so flavorful. I would definitely order these three appetizers again. One person ordered the chicken parm with a side of spaghetti and they really enjoyed it. I had the rigatoni with braised lamb. My pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce with the pickled peppers was so balanced and amazing. Unfortunately, I had eaten too much from the starters I couldn't eat as much of my entree as I would have liked. I would definitely go back! I loved it!"

  • "Enjoyed our experience here. Service was excellent. The food was mostly on target. We especially enjoyed the steak tartare and brussels sprouts appetizers. Ricotta croquettes were sweet and I would not order them again. Seafood Risotto was great, pizzas a little lacking. Desserts were excellent."

  • "The good: The Brussel sprouts, ravioli and molten chocolate cake were all delicious, the drinks were great, the place was well lit and very tastefully decorated. Reservation Table was ready to go when we arrived on a very busy Valentines Day! an appetizer, 2 main courses, dessert and 2 rounds of drinks only set me back $130.. Not Bad The bad : Carbanera pasta was salty, it took a pretty long to get drinks at the table, it was really cold upstairs and the music was turned up a little loud. I would go back, but not in my LA top 10.."
