Diner Reviews
  • "Osteria Fasulo is a great place. The food is superb - classic Italian in a California setting. In the spring and summer, the outdoor dining is delightful. I have also had some great lunch meetings at Osteria Fasulo's. BEST Italian restaurant in the area."

  • "Osteria Fasulo is our romantic special occasion place. It is great to sit outside and enjoy the courtyard which is both quiet and serene. The food prices are expensive for the market and the portions about average, but nonetheless we enjoy the quality of the food. Unfortunately, the serenity often includes the service. They are polite but about 1/2 as attentive as they should be. Since we've found this to be true in Italy as well, I guess it comes with the territory. Also, they forgot to include all of our leftovers, too which was a disappointment when we got home."

  • "Tucked away where you don't expect to find a restaurant there lies one of high quality. Perhaps the ambience is a little dated, but the food quality is superb. We started with the clams and mussels appetizer, followed by a light salad sitting in a parmesan nest. Then a pistachio nut crusted salmon over a bed of green beans that was to die for! Dessert was shared and delighted everyone's taste buds, crepes with a light lemon filling and strawberry sauce. A spoon of meringue with a strawberry topping was given at the end of the meal. A nice bottle of wine was shared as well. Waiter staff very pleasant too."

  • "The food was good, but not outstanding. The room felt cramped, service was slow."

  • "Right now this is the best restaurant in Davis. The menu changes seasonally but more important it's an inventive menu that clearly reflects the interesting and eclectic tastes of the chef. The presentation is also interesting and careful without being precious. Service is exceptional- once again attentive without being cloying. Wonderful wine list."

  • "We celebrate all our special occasions here because they know how to make your night special. Plus the food is always exquisite. We never order the same dish twice because we can't wait to try something new."

  • "When we got there we informed the server that only had an hour and a half. He seemed to understand and advised against one dish because it would take a long time to prepare. The food when it got there was great but each course took longer than it should have. The main course had a long delay. When we got it, it was hot and very good but we only had 10 min. to eat it. Then we had to beg for the check and were given the wrong one. The place is so small that they probably do not have a wine expert, but the server had very little knowledge of what we were asking about. He did not offer to get someone else to help, just said that the owner picked good wines for the list so it must be good."

  • "We have eaten many times at Osteria Fasulo. The food has been excellent each time. The service has been excellent also. We highly recommend this place for a quiet, out of the way dinner that is excellent."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit very much. The decor and seating are pleasant and comfortable. We greatly enjoyed the antipasto, the wine, and our entrees. My husband had lasagna and I had black and white dungeness crab pasta. Our concerns were primarily the music: it was too loud and too banal. Some current Italian music, like Ennio Moricone, would have been preferable to the radio muzak that was played. Secondarily, our friends ordered the steak which was full of gristle although well grilled. The wine list was light on Italian reds but the white wine list was comprehensive. The service was slow but given the quality of the food, not excessively so. This is not a place for large parties as it is small. Definitely would go back."

  • "Osteria Fasulo always delivers. The food is absolutely fabulous. I like to go with several people and order several different things to share."

  • "The food was excellent showing chef's care of preparation and traditional in a good sense but non-boring. We even had a birthday dessert gratis!"

  • "overall probably the best restaurant and dining experience in Davis"

  • "Great food and service. The beet salad and halibut were superb. Although, the coloring of ravioli was intended to be a pink heart, it made the pasta look a bit strange. Our server did an awesome job."

  • "We were going to a performance after dinner, so we notified Osteria through Open Table. We enjoyed our usual wonderful food, wine, and service and got to the performance on time as well."

  • "My husband and I dined here on NYE. It was a pre-set, seven course menu, with choices for appetizer, entree and dessert. The portions were perfect and the presentation was exquisite. Our server was appropriately attentive--not a hoverer, but noted when we needed something."

  • "The menu is too large for the size restaurant. It was OK."

  • "We had not been to this restaurant in many years and were so pleased to see that it is still fantastic. Currently, I'd say it is the best restaurant in Davis for a fancy meal. Everything we had from the appetizers to the desserts were delicious. We need to go back again sooner next time."

  • "Ambiance on a cold Christmas Eve was warm and welcoming. They had a fixed menu with two choices for each of 4 courses and between us we tried them all. All were delicious. Especially notable were the cannelloni, the trout with dungeness crab and the filet mignon. Service was impeccable. It was a wonderful celebration."

  • "We went to O.F. for the very first time for Christmas Eve. The interior is tiny, but charming and the many servers move with the ease of ice skaters. The menu was limited to a beef entrée and a stuffed trout entrée. The beet salad appeared to have no dressing. The tortellini was some of the best I've tasted. The beef came with asparagus that had no apparent seasoning. A dollop of mashed potatoes sat bare on the plate. The filet was a brown portion of a full filet. The plate was unattractive and bare. Desserts were not any better. The coffee was tasteless. The wine pour under-sized. The trout entrée looked bare and exposed on the plate. . We'll give the place a second chance when the regular menu is being served."

  • "Thank you to Chef Atilio for always trying new ways to present a tasty vegan vegetable plate! We always also enjoy the hot and delicious soup which he can prepare vegan style as well. Tonight we had the tomato basil soup. Perfect! The restaurant was busy this evening, but Matteo still found time to recommend a nice bottle of wine for us."

  • "Chef Atilio prepared a delicious tomato basil soup and amazing grilled vegetable plate, complete with chestnuts for the holidays! My husband also enjoyed the cioppino and Matteo already had a wine suggestion ready for us too. It was a great meal all around."

  • "My wife and I celebrated her 51st birthday at Osteria. This restaurant is a hidden gem of fine dinning in Davis! The restaurant is small (about 10 tables) and has been here for about 10 years. Italian menu is made mostly from locally sourced sustainable foods. The menu changes frequently and has a wide variety including vegetarian and gluten free options. The owner, chef and wait staff are all very friendly and accommodating. There was one loud party of 6 which increased the volume level in the small dinning room but we still had a nice romantic dinner. Rather than deciding on a single meal, we chose several appetizers and salads. Patricia brought out each course in good time. Steamed mussels and clams were extraordinary! We will return!"

  • "My husband and I had a lovely dinner but what really made the experience outstanding was our server Nicole. She was so knowledgable and attentive, it just elevated the whole experience. The food was good, portions on the small size but it was a very enjoyable meal. We will return! Thank you Nicole!"

  • "Food was good. Fresh and full with flavor. Offered classic and new menu items. Nice variety. Nice presentation. Not over priced. Able to give a fine dining experience yet got us out the door in time to go to the Mondavi Center. Had fire pits and heaters for outdoor dining. Very friendly. Would classify as casual fine dining. Dress up or down comfortable either way. Was made to feel very welcome and special. Staff super attentive. Will happily return."

  • "We have eaten many times at this restaurant. The food is excellent and so is the service. It is not an easy place to find on the west side of Davis but well worth the effort."

  • "we had not been here in over 4yrs and went because we understood it was under new management. and is so, kudos to them. Our dinner was outstanding. Especially noteworthy was the gnocchi and the stuffed sole entree. the radicchio salad was a new experience and very delicious. We had a pana cotta for dessert and all agreed it was one of the best desserts we had ever had."

  • "Ate here on our anniv. & were pleased with the restaurant. A quiet restaurant tucked away from town with a central open patio area in the middle reminiscent of Italy. If you didn't know the restaurant was here, you would never find it. Staff was courteous, helpful and accommodating. Server brought us a complimentary appetizer and a dessert for our anniversary, definitely a nice touch and not expected! Menu had a variety of meals, seafood, pasta, soups, and other proteins. Appetizer portion cioppino was very good with a lot of different seafoods, reasonably priced, and almost enough for a meal. If you're looking for something different, tucked away from UC Davis, romantic, & quiet, with really good food, this place is worth checking out."

  • "I loved the beet salad and the vegan "lasagna". The lasagna is layered with all veggies (no pasta) and savory flavors. My husband was happy to see the cioppino back on the menu too."

  • "In general the food is really quite good. But the prices are a bit over the top! A small salad--about 10 bites--is 10 bucks. Wines by the glass are priced too. For 3 of us, with four glasses if wine, an appetizer and two entrees the price with tax and tip was nearly $190. Whew!"
