Nice selection of non-meat options let us all share generous apps of grilled octopus with greens and olives, creamy polenta and smoked salmon on toast. My mushroom risotto had a rich woody flavor, but was nicely lightened with bits of zucchini; friends had chewy flank steak and homemade pappardelle that they swooned over. The staff was welcoming and indulgent. We were celebrating a birthday and mentioned it on the reservation. At the end they brought out a stunning layered dessert, I'm guessing a version of panna cotta, because it was nothing but creamy elegance, with a big curl of dark chocolate - just heavenly.

Very surprising and pleasant experience. Came with a discounted coupon but the staff was very welcoming unlike other restaurants, explaining the options on the menu. The food was superb from appetizers to deserts and the wine was paired perfectly. Looking forward to returning for another great dining experience. On another note, the tables for two are quite small and if the staff would not have attached another small table, the experience would have been less pleasant. I don't know how that works when the restaurant is full.

We went with a PULSD voucher and everything we ate was wonderful! I am a lasagna foodie and theirs was one of the best I ever ate. My husband had the goulash with polenta which was also delicious. The Mille foglie was outstanding as was the apple strudel. Service couldn't have been better. We will definitely be back!

This intimate gem caught our eye early in our week-long NYC stay. The beautifully dressed windows, sleek decor, well-presented food and attentive service made this a total delight. It stands out from many nearby competitors by offering a quiet, personal ambiance perfect for relaxed, intimate dining. Our 12-year old grandson holds its Caesar salad in high esteem and enjoyed his fettuccini pesto, prepared to order.

Gracious service, authentic Italian dishes, wonderful wine list makes this tucked away newcomer a must-try if you're in the Flatiron area. Paces away from 2 subway stops (23rd St N/R & 6), across the street from Madison Square Park, it's easy to overlook but the prosciutto & buffalo is to die for as are any of the pasta dishes. Some complain of slow service but in typical European fashion, they allow you to linger and converse which is what fine dining is all about.

We were a group of 8 for dinner on Friday night to celebrate my birthday. They were very accommodating and did not rush us at all. Every enjoyed what they ate. We started with the prosciutto and burrata appetizer (2 for the table) and it was a very good choice. The gave us plenty of bread and olive oil. Several guests had the gnocchi special and I think that was the best entree of the night. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I returned here on a "regular" week night (instead of a Wednesday music night) and the place was quiet and the lights were brighter. It was the first time for my friends who liked the ambiance immediately. One friend who just returned from 2 wks in Italy LOVED it. Eggplant prosciutto antipasti was delicious. Specials -- risotto with vegetables ; beef stew over polenta; gnoochi with prosciutto were perfectly seasoned and portioned. Bottle of prosecco; dessert; cappuccinos were good as well. We will be back again on a Wednesday night for the more festive atmosphere. Again, the wait staff took too long to serve us, and we had to ask for the bill 3X although place was not full. Still highly recommend.

We came here on Wednesday night which is their Italian music night (with American songs from Frank Sinatra etc mixed in). With the giant old photos of their prosciutto family business on the walls, and the open kitchen area, it already felt very much like we were in Italy. The prosciutto antipasti appertizer was fresh and well balanced with the cheese. The specials -- shrimp fettuccine which could have used a bit more garlic and well-seasoned pork loin over mashed potatoes. Although the wait staff did check back with us occasionally, we felt that they were not attentive enough. It took too long to get their attention for more bread, etc. and even for the bill and then processing payment. Regardless, highly recommend.

The location is surprising, tucked into the monolith-looking wall of the NY Life building on 23rd St. But once you step inside the restaurant is secluded and welcoming. The Brasceola and eggplant parmesan appetizers were both delicious and nicely presentated. We both had the pasta special of the day, homemade linguine with porcini mushrooms. The presentation was very attractive, and every bite was delicious. Portions were ample without being excessive. The prices were reasonable, particularly for the quality of the food, the presentation and the ambience. We were there on a Saturday night at 6:30. The only noise problem was nonstop recorded music that was irritatingly unsuitable for dining. Service was excellent and professional.

Everything we ate there for dinner was fantastic - Burratta and proscuitto, pulpo, dessert - but the Gnocchi Bolognese was the BEST gnocchi I've ever eaten - better than my trips to Italy. They were so light and the sauce was spectacular. I will definitely be returning soon.

I've been here before and came back for the Gnocchi but this time decided to try the Prosciutto & Buratta appetizer and the Mille Foglia for dessert. Wow!! The prosciutto and cheese were really great and the Mille Foglia was freshly made and served warm with strawberries and mascarpone. So light and delicious. I'll always have the chicken scallopini as it's amazing and light and the gnocchi as it's home made and always fresh. I love this place and will return again and again.

We had dinner at Osteria del Principe and are glad we did! The prosciutto and burrata platter was a yummy dish to share. Everything we ordered was spot-on, from the spaghetti carbonara to the salmon. The service was very attentive and non-intrusive.The only thing we found a little irritating was the music, the first half of our stay they were playing outdated pop music.I think Italian music would be much more suitable.

I live around the corner from Osteria del Principe and was hoping for a restaurant that I could eat at on a regular basis. It didn't make the cut. What was served was pretty good except the lasagna was really overcooked. However the menu was so limited, like only 6 entrees, that I won't return.

Upon my first visit to the restaurant, I was happy to note that while some of the dishes were unimaginative, the quality of the ingredients and neat preparation more than made up for my familiarity with the cuisine. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating, the dishes were served hot and expediatly, and I will be making a return trip! This is a great find next to Madison Square Park. Try the prosciutto; del Principe cultivates and imports their own signature cuts.

They must do a bustling lunch business, because on a rainy Friday night the place was nearly empty. There is a nice contemporary vibe to the place, and our waiter was excellent. They seem to specialize in vaious cured ham dishes, but we were swayed by a "white truffle" special pasta. My friend and I split the $45 dish after we are assured the truffle was from Italy, not China. The fresh-made paste was quite good, but the shavings of truffle had almost no taste at all. Very disappointing. Our main dishes were better, but if I go again I would stick to one of the prosciutto options. Finally, I let the waiter chose my white wine to go with the pasta; he brought a Gavi that was outstanding.

Cant wait for their liquor license to come throught, they just open so expect new items to be added to the menu. I heard someone talk about 'prosiutto in crosta' and 'gnocchi di susino' next: yumm!
