A word from Osteria D' Assisi
Osteria d'Assisi was opened in 1995, in a renovated home in the historic downtown district of Santa Fe. The restaurant is named after the city of Santa Fe's patron saint, Saint Francis, who was born in the town of Assisi in Italy. Italian h'osteria's are known for their authentic cuisine served in a homelike, warm & friendly atmosphere. The Osteria d'Assisi features regional Italian cuisine, utilizing the time honored Mediterranean approach to preparing food with olive oil and fresh ingredients. Our menu includes fresh seafood, locally grazed beef, veal and lamb, house made pasta, fresh bread baked daily, gourmet pizza and creative desserts.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I had medium expectations for Osteria and was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. I blew out the candle because of the scent it produces. Had the Filet Mignon and Veal Picatta. Great taste, especially the filet and they kept us in good supply of bread at our request. I was surprised at the visible tattoos on our server but it's common in Santa Fe to take what you can get. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Hadn't been to Osteria in a while, but now we'll go again more often. The eggplant rolantini and veal ravioli with porcini mushrooms were fantastic!"

  • "Can't say enough good things about our 2 dining experiences. Service was wonderful. Server was very attentive and engaging as was support staff including hostess. It was obvious there is a good energy surrounding this restaurant as all well staff seemed to be genuinely happy to be there. Food was fantastic and the wine list was extensive and very approachable. This will be at the top of my dining list on my next visit"

  • "This may be my new favorite place in Santa Fe. The Quality of the food is outstanding. Delicious appetizers and entrees, and we were too full for the dessert because everything was so good we could not quit eating!!! Highly recommended!"

  • "Off night for Osteria, but this restaurant has reliably delivered in the past, so wouldn't avoid it based on one night. The food wasn't bad, just wasn't up to what we were used to before. Still has great ambiance and if someone is in Santa Fe and is looking for Italian, this is still my number 1 recommendation."

  • "Wonderful tomato basil soup and beet/fig salad on the lunch special. My friend had ravioli which she said was very tasty. Another person in our party had shrimp salad but the salad dressing was put on with a heavy hand -- too much vinegar. Good breads! Service was good, as they realized we were having a business discussion and left us alone."

  • "We think of Oesteria as our "go to" restaurant in Santa Fe. The menu offerings are varied, everything is extremely fresh, the servers are knowledgeable, helpful and unobtrusive. We especially enjoy the appetizer polenta dish with its various tastes and textures. The portion is large enough to share. Another appetizer recommendation is the fried calamari. Haven't had an entree there that wasn't absolutely delicious! The host will help you choose an excellent bottle of wine to accompany your meal. Don't forget to save room for dessert!"

  • "Best wait staff, lovely room, food is just ok. It has been better in the past however, it must have been the chiefs night out."

  • "The food was awesome, the atmosphere was divine, the only glitch was that one of the waitresses was constantly interrupting to see how things were. I like to be asked, once, maybe twice, but she was a bit distracting. I still really enjoyed the dinner for two."

  • "There are several good choices for Italian food in Santa Fe but this one is currently the best. Innovative Italian cuisine. We tried the evening specials; they were interesting and well prepared. Service was attentive without being over the top. Food was well paced too which we feel is part of the overall dining experience. Wine list is broad, well priced and put together by someone who knows the different wine regions of Italy. We dined during the off (tourist) season and the place was crowded. Generally this is the time of the year for locals and that alone should tell you Osteria is doing something right."

  • "I like Osteria. The food is very good. My salmon was cooked exactly right! Although at this time of year - early March - parking is easy, in the summer it can be difficult to find a spot on the street, so they are offering free parking at the convention center down the street."

  • "Had the osso bucco for dinner. Meat was tender, falling off the bone. It had very little flavor though, I had to add salt and pepper. Had the ahi tuna appetizer and it was delicious. The desserts were very tasty. The strawberry with gelatto was the tastiest. Outstanding service. Nice atmosphere. Cozy bar."

  • "Went for a bday celebration for a family member. Just happened to be the restaurant wk. half of us ordered from rw menu and the other from regular. They seated us upstairs with no ambience to speak of. Felt like we were the guests that they wanted to tuck away to hide. The lamb shank, seafood melody on the RW menu was too salty as well as the pizza we ordered. Pumpkin ravioli had vegetable on top that wasn't completely cooked. The service was good. That's about it. Would never return to this location again."

  • "The menu is northern Italian and has something for everyone. And they have specials every evening that are wonderful and excellent value. The owners have been in the restaurant business for many years in Santa Fe and they have been on-site every time I've eaten there and they stay on top of the kitchen and service. On a busy Friday evening it was packed but the food and service were outstanding."

  • "So glad we picked this as one of our restaurant choices during Santa Fe Restaurant Week. Every year we like to try 2 new places to add to our regular dining favorites. Osteria makes the favorites list now with its Northern Italian cuisine - not a pasta and meatballs place. Our waiter, Pietro, was a star. Our main courses, Cioppino Puttanesca and Osso Bucco (made with lamb shanks - so rich) were outstanding and the desserts were just the right touch. We will visit again."

  • "We asked for a quiet table and received it. Then a group of maybe 12 arrived and tables were re-arranged with the end of the row right next to us. The group was well-behaved but still, it's hard to find a quiet group of 12. The waitress, who gave us great service, apologized, but geez, they could have treated us to the coffees."

  • "Lovely restaurant, food is very good. Went during Santa Fe's Restaurant Week & ordered from the restaurant week special menu. I like doing that to see if the restaurant really cares and Osteria does."

  • "When I began coming to Santa Fe a number of years ago and my brother recommended an Italian restaurant, I scoffed. Why would I come to New Mexico to eat Italian food? Then, I went to Osteria d'Assisi. In addition to the great service, the food was out of this world - I had a wonderful grilled chicken and citrus salad for lunch, which I recently noticed is not on the menu anymore. I will have to get on to them about that. The truth is I've had so many wonderful dishes at lunch and dinner at Osteria since then that I didn't even realize that salad was gone from the menu. My two favorite dishes for dinner are the Osso Bucco (veal) - the best I've ever had - and the Fettuccine Carolina with grilled chicken - it's divine. Do not miss Osteria!"

  • "The food was great, our server very nice and attentive. It was a little cold (in temperature, not hospitality) but that's the only issue I had. And I wouldn't even call it a complaint, just an observation. We went during restaurant week and had the 3 course dinner, but my all-time fav is still the caprese salad. :) The best I've ever had!"

  • "My guest and I enjoyed our three course meal during restaurant week. I have been to your restaurant during restaurant week before and you never fail to leave a wonderful lasting impression! Our server was excellent! She timed our courses perfectly and suggested a wonderful bottle of Chianti. The busser was very attentive and the food was outstanding! Thank you for a wonderful evening. On another note.....When we arrived at your restaurant we were greeting by the hostess. She was very distraught about a 7 top she was trying to get together. She was very demeaning to the busser which made my guest and I very uncomfortable. I don't think anybody should be treated with disrespect no matter what the situation."

  • "I've spent some time in Italy, and I have to say Osteria tasted like the Italian we ate when visiting- very fresh, very authentic. It's a charming restaurant with close seating, but surprisingly quiet and intimate. There is an extensive wine list as well as aperitifs including house made limoncello and grappa!....Now that's amore'!"

  • "My husband and I always treat ourselves to a special dinner on Valentine's day. Osteria D' Assisi is the perfect restaurant for such an occasion. Delicious food, attentive staff, pleasant atmosphere. And, you can see the other customers are thoroughly enjoying themselves as well. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Chef Christian Pontiggia is the best chef in town, bar none. If you request Pietro as your server, and are lucky to get him, you are in for a treat. Both men come from the Lake Como/Bellagio area and offer a tremendous Italian food experience and adventure, without leaving the U.S. The restaurant without them is good but, with them, it's a must do and culinary extravaganza."

  • "Excellent REAL caesar salad with anchovies in dressing as it is supposed to be! Lovely beet salad with figs, gorgonzola et al. Chicken breast a little too heavy on what was called marsala sauce. Vegetarian torta was also a 4 not a 5. Coconut desert was a 10."

  • "This was our first visit to Osteria D'Assisi and we enjoyed our dining tremendously. The antipasto we ordered, TRITTICO DELLO CHEF DI LEGUMI ANTIPASTO with grilled organic vegetables and added Parma prosciutto, coppa and Felino salami was perfectly seasoned, just to our liking. It was the best we have had. The server was attentive and very helpful in helping to select a wine we like. A perfect evening of dining."

  • "I spent 8 days in Santa Fe and this was by far the greatest meal we had! We went back on our last night just to make sure it was just as good as we remember, it was. Even their simple mixed salad was great! I recommend this restaurant if you are in Santa Fe looking for great food that isn't New Mexican style!"

  • "Sorry to be disappointing about this cute Italian place with a great location, its own parking lot and delightful interior rooms. They serve many authentic dishes. Yet could not figure out where the menu was trying to go.... fish, steak, pizza, linguine, lasagna.... shrimp... the salads were great, the main courses all were, good. It was the service and a loud group in the same room with us that broke any ambience or warmth of the restaurant. A party of 5 was sharing videos from their phones across the table... cant believe the staff would not ask THAT to stop! The servers were awkward, did not know how to walk around the table to serve - and I feel that their arms were stuck in my face over and over at the table."

  • "Excellent food and service. We loved the house-made burrata appetizer, the excellent bread, the mushroom pizza, and two pasta dishes we tried. We will recommend it to others visiting Santa Fe."
