We had a couple minor issues with the service such as asking for the grated parm they offered when they brought our food and then having to ask again for it about 4-5min later before we got it. Also our server did not bring cream and sugar with our coffee nor did she ask when we ordered it. Then it took a couple of min before we got it. Overall we enjoy this place. Food is always served hot and plentiful. Sauces are authentic and awesome making the dishes great. The bread is super with flat bread being my favorite. Blend the meal with a good variety of wines and you have a wonderful dining experience. Service is always good and I have yet to be disappointed with by the friendly staff.
If you like eggplant, try the OC eggplant. The appetizer is plenty of food unless you are real hungry, then the entree is best. I take a box home with most entrees. Waiter (Max) was attentive and knowledgeable without being overbearing. Food came out promptly and was plated nicely. Food was very good and we all enjoyed our entrees and appetizers. I noticed that the tables for 2 were very small and the one near our table was in a busy area. Not very romantic to my mind. Perhaps in other areas there are tables where I would not feel crowded but this one seemed like an afterthought. We did order dessert and the strawberry shortcake was lovely. I had gelato and it was gritty and disappointing. Espresso was offered but was from a packet. For Wilmington, the Italian was good. The bass was grilled to a perfect crispness on the outside and juicy, flaky, and tender inside. It came over mixed grains and greens, and was so flavorfully seasoned. It is challenging to find this quality of food in Wilmington, NC and we love this restaurant. The bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and we can use as much olive oil, salt and pepper as we desire. The fontina fig bruschette was exquisite, too! It was so delicious, we got takeout the next day. My sister had the mushroom risotto and I had the margherita pizza that were fabulous. We had the hearts of romaine salad and the spinach, pear, walnut salad. I would definitely recommend if going back to Wilmington! The food is always delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was a little half-hearted and we were promised fresh bread which did not appear until we asked for a second time. The only negative was the location of our table - I had a nice view into the kitchen (Table 73) This table should not be used unless an absolute emergency. I have experienced bad seatings at other restaurants when I book through Open Table and hope this is not so as I love Open Table. We are by no means slow diners, but the feeling of being rushed is a constant problem here. We have never had a chance to finish our salad before the pasta dish arrives.
If the restaurant were crowded we could understand. But it wasn't. And our server neglected to tell us of the evening specials.
We will still return, but we keep hoping that we won't be rushed out the door. This is the only one of the group's restaurants that has this problem. Please fix it! What started so promisingly with a wonderful antipasto selection (Note: the mushroom and truffle oil bruschetta is a must-order item, plus the white bean spread is not far behind) quickly too a nose dive with the primi dishes.
The al pesto pasta proved mislabeled; it should have been billed as an alfredo. The predominant color was white with tiny specks of green (pesto) and red (sun dried tomatoes). It was barely edible.
Fortunately my daughter ordered the pasta with meatballs and Italian sausages in a tomato-based sauce. It based the edibility test. However, the meatball lacked flavor and the sauce was runny.
