Osteria al DogeOsteria al DogeThis restaurant is in a great location for pre-theater dinner. The food was excellent and the servings were generous. The waitress brought bread to the table and then I noticed other tables had a bottle of oil. I was half way through my salad before I was able to motion to her that we would like some oil which we finally got, but very late. My husband and I both had pasta dishes. After we were finished, I noticed that the table next to us had ordered pasta dishes and someone brought fresh ground parmesan for them. We weren't offered any. So disappointed about the service and attention to detail, but we did have a good dinner.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Pre-Theater RestaurantMy wife, two teen-aged kids and I had dinner at Osteria al Doge prior to attending an 8:00 Saturday night Broadway show. We arrived at 5:45 and were warmly greeted at the door by the Matre'd and promptly seated. Our waiter soon arrived, asking about our evening plans. He asked when curtain time was, then reassured us that we had time . Every aspect of the dinner from the appetizers to the dessert was excellent. While I wouldn't consider myself a "foodie", I certainly know good, quality Italian cuisine when I taste it. The service was impeccable. The wait staff was very prompt and attentive without being overbearing. After dinner, we walked to the theater, making it to the show with enough time to find our seats and look over the Playbill.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOsteria al Doge is a solidOsteria al Doge is a solid choice close to Times Square for wonderful Italian cuisine. Food was expertly prepared and served with a smile by our wonderful waitress. Definitely cannot go wrong here!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite Place in NYI have been here about a half dozen times and love it each time. Very good service and excellent food at good prices. It is our favorite NY restaurant for lunch or dinner.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPortion so small I had toPortion so small I had to fill up on bread also overly long waiting time.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely dinnerWe had a pre-theater dinner here. The location is convenient for walking from the hotel and to the theater. The restaurant is nicely decorated with a collection of farm and formal dining tables and well-appointed accessories. The staff was cordial and attentive, refilling water glasses and offering service throughout the meal. We had two simple pasta dishes, both were flavorful and adequate portion size, and appropriately priced. The meal came with a small complementary dish of olives, and concluded with a free dish of meringues, almonds, and biscotti slices.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid food and serviceThis is my first time at this restaurant. I ordered a soup and a homemade pasta dish. Both were very very good. Service was wonderful. I didn't have any dessert but a cup of cafe latte. I was very satisfied with this place and will go back again.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Italian with a smileFriendly service, delicious clams and mussels followed by eggplant and goat cheese ravioli. First, our server was wonderful - friendly and attentive, checking back on our satisfaction. Dinner was delicious and served in a very timely manner - there was no worry about getting to the show late. We were not rushed, but felt that the service was well geared to getting diners out to their show on time. The table next to us had a young girl who was obviously there with her parents for a birthday dinner and presumably a show afterwards. The staff was very attentive to the child and the family and seemed to make her celebration special for her and her parents. We would return.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOn my list of favorites in NYCJust added this restaurant to my favorites list. Great food, presentation, and love the West Village area. Everything was delicious. It's a big menu with lots of great options, wonderful sounding specials. I went with the lasagna. Portion sizes are quite robust and yet I finished it all it was so good. House salad is just ok, nothing special. Deserts were ok, but the main course was fantastic. Good after-dinner coffee too.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat choicewe enjoyed our meal and the friendliness of the staff . the matre d paid a visit to insure all was okay and he had a pleasant disposition. the chairs were initially uncomfortable but after a while 'notice it.
the waitress was great in patiently repeating the specials. the price was reasonable for the theater district. we ate after the play and had no pressure. the pinot grigio was great and not overpriced.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-dinner findOsteria al Doge has good, solid food with a dominant Italian (they claim Venetian, not sure that it's so specific) theme. It can be very noisy, but if you get there early, it's fine. Excellent for pre-theatre as it's within easy walking distance of Broadway, and most off-Broadway, theatres. We were there pre-theatre. Our waiter was most accommodating, and the meal was quick, though not rushed.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Pre-theater.Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Food was okay--depends on what I order. Overall experience was good and I will eat there again before or after theater.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-Theatre GemOur overall experience exceeded my expectations. I had not visited this restaurant previously. The food was tasty, the service efficient ( despite the packed pre- show house) and the vibe was nice. The seating was comfortable and I was welcomed and treated as if I am a " regular" patron. I selected al Doge based on the OT ratings provided by predecessor reviewers. Spot on.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food as well as EnergyRestaurant is right in the heart of the theatre district and staff is mindful, without being pushy. Fun, friendly environment. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Our waiter was not the most cordial though! The ravioli with eggplant was fabulous. The special tortellini with prosciutto and peas was also excellent. Though rich, it was not heavy. Deserts were beautiful and delicious, especially the apple tart. I would recommend this to someone looking for tasty Italian in this neighborhood.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Pre-theater spotI took the family here based on very positive reviews, and was not disappointed. Had 5:30 reservations and made it to our 7pm show with time to spare. This was our first time here and you can bet we will be back!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMquiet dinner in Times SquareAn excellent Italian restaurant right in the heart of Times Square with character, great food and top service.
