Diner Reviews
  • "Ate dinner here after theatre on Sunday. Food very good but for the price of an entree there could have been more on the plate."

  • "I went here at the recommendation of my boss. I was celebrating my 6 year anniversary and wanted a good pre-theater dinner. Perfect choice! The decor was classy, homey and nice. We were seated upstairs and overlooked the other diners,(great for peeking at others meals). Our waiter was great and attentive, most importantly the food was delish! For a great and reasonably priced place to eat, this is the place to go!"

  • "We originally were supposed to go to an earlier show and had reservations to a different restaurant. We had an issue earlier in the day which forced us to change the show time and dinner reservations. It was a blessing in disguise because we needed to switch to this restaurant. It was my boyfriend's birthday and everyone in the restaurant was so accommodating to my Open Table requests to surprise him. Our server was a sweetheart, food was great and ambiance was lovely. Thank you for helping me give him a great birthday trip!"

  • "This was my first time dining at Osteria al Doge, and it was absolutely delicious. The server was friendly without being overbearing, and asked right away if we were going to a show. I feel like the prices were slightly too high for the quantity of food, but overall it was a very positive experience."

  • "The menu was interesting. The food we ordered was great. Service was very professional and concerned about getting us to the theater on time. The only gripes were the price of a glass of wine and the noise level which unfortunately was not much different from many other spots."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Although the food, service & ambience was excellent, the noise level is rather high."

  • "Our favorite restaurant when we attend Theater in the Times Square area. Always, good service, welcoming, delicious food and pleasant ambiance. If you are running late, they graciously take that into account. My husband, a risotto enthusiast loves their risotto. The breads and extra goodies are special."

  • "I have been having dinners and lunches at Osteria for years and the quality is always excellent, service is always amazing, and the restaurant is spacious, and authentic. It is a very pleasant romantic yet relaxed atmosphere that is both upbeat and sophisticated. The menu has options that are all excellent."

  • "This visit was my first time back in about a year and after dinner my friend and I both commented on how we wished we ate there more often. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, we were on our way to the theater and our server was sure to get us on our way with time to spare without us feeling rushed. I look forward to dining there again soon."

  • "Salads had no taste at all. Food was bland. Chicken was tough, almost impossible to cut."

  • "food fine, service and attention superior...only problem we couldnt get separate checks at our table of four friends. Important since one person did NOT drink anything but water, two people did not have starters, and every order was different pricing...difficult to divide up tax and service."

  • "Beautiful interior - Feeling of being in Italy. Staff very friendly I would go there again and have told friends about this restaurant. Food very fresh. Best pizza I have ever had. Salads were fabulous."

  • "This is our second time at this restaurant. It's a great location for a pre-theater dinner. We enjoy the menu it has so many great options. The waitstaff caters to your pre-theater needs. No worry of missing your show and you don't feel rushed. The food was a little disappointing this time. My veal was a little tough and seemed overlooked. The potatoes that came with my veal were cold. My wife's ravioli were delicious but also were just barely above room temperature. Our first experience was great but this time it was just fair. May give it one more shot."

  • "What a great place to relax and dine within the mid-town district! Enter through the double-glass doors and the noise and hustle and bustle of NYC fade away to a relaxed yet elegant dining experience. The staff is personable, friendly, and knowledgable. The menu is inventive and varied enough for even the most discriminating diner. Our party of 5 all tried a different section of the menu, from pasta to meat to fish, and everyone raved about their choice. Definitely a keeper and can't wait to return. Nice job!"

  • "Nice ambience with upstairs balcony overlooking lower level. Friendly staff from the moment we entered - especially our wonderful waitress, Simona. Food was great (we had the branzino and risotto with Italian sausage ragu). Both were delicious, but my highest praise is for the incredibly light, amazing flan!! I could have eaten a bowl of it, and almost ordered a second. My granddaughter had the Nutella pannacotta, and gave high marks for that as well. Location was perfect for us - right in the heart of the theater district, and only a block away from the Shubert, where we saw Matilda. You won't go wrong if you make this your choice. Great overall experience."

  • "We were fortunate to have been given a table upstairs as we had requested, because it was quiet there during the lunch hour. The service was excellent, the food was very good, and my friend and I enjoyed our lunch. We will definitely return."

  • "I've worked in Times Square for 17+ years and have always found Osteria al Doge to provide solid, consistently good Italian food. It's a well run, efficient restaurant that can provide a great locale for a business lunch or a meal before the theater. The food is delicious and the menu reflects seasonal fare. Worth checking out if you're searching for a good meal in the theater district."

  • "Dined here with my Mom prior to a concert at MSG. Service was great, not rushed. Sat on balcony level which added to the ambience. Homemade pasta (we both had tagliatelle w/ shrimp/arugula in a yummy light tomato sauce. Bruschetta apetizer was great. We thought price was very good for the quality of food. Nice wine list and very reasonably priced too.Would definitely go back."

  • "Great location within Broadway to eat before or after the theatre; except you wouldn't really want to eat here. I'm certain my teenagers could make better pasta, from a frozen package. Bland and lackluster - 95 percent of my reviews are great; just not this one."

  • "Our family had an exceptional meal at Osteria al Doge on June 28th. We were looking for somewhere near the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (one block away), with great Italian food. All our dinners were delicious… The appetizer that evening was figs with prosciutto and cheese..simple and tasty. The mains I shared were the Spinach Pappardelle with roasted lamb, black olives and rosemary and the Branzino with roasted garlic and clams. Our server, Simone, was particularly attentive to serving our dinners so that we had plenty of time before our show to celebrate a special birthday. And the best part was the price of the dinner…well-priced for a higher end restaurant. I would recommend it in a heartbeat, especially for anyone going to the theatre."

  • "My husband and I went here after a matinee showing "Of Mice and Men". Had a wonderful dinner. The restaurant was very cozy, and the food was amazing. I had the homemade Pappardelle pasta with roasted lamb which was just perfect! My husband had the linguine with seafood and loved that also. We had the calamari appetizer but didn't love that, it was a bit overdone. Service was very attentive, and tables were not too on top of one another! Would definitely come back next time in the theater district. For dessert we had the Tiramisu and the apple turnover - also delicious! If you are in the neighborhood make a reservation and you will not be disappointed."

  • "We did not expect such a great dining experience so close to Broadway. Our server was tremendous. Food was great. The bartender went out of his way to make a non-alcoholic drink for one of our party."

  • "Excellent tricolore salad and Napolitana pizza. Service was prompt and attentive. Very limited wine list with mostly mediocre Italian wines and a few American choices."

  • "I keep returning to Osteria al Doge for pre-theater dining. The food and service are very good and they are aware of your timing to make the theater. It is conveniently close to the theater district. They are very accommodating. For example, we were caught in traffic and were half an hour late. I called to advise and they made me feel very comfortable and seated us as soon as we arrived."

  • "The food was only so-so. The location and service made making the 8:00 show easy. If you need a quick meal in the theater district, this works."

  • "We did not have a good experience. The server got one of our orders wrong. The other order was grilled salmon which was supposed to be on the rare side. It was raw. Cold on the inside, barely warm on the outside. Though the restaurant is pretty, the noise level was intolerable. My companion and I sat side by side and could not hear each other. Neither of us would not recommend this restaurant."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The waitress was horrible!!! Had no knowledge of any of the dishes. The manager was apologizing for her lack of experience. They should not put a new waitress on the floor alone to serve tables for pre-theater!!!"

  • "I spent the weekend with my daughter. After a fabulous day together, we decided to have a delicious meal at Osteria al Doge. We couldn't have ended the weekend with a better choice. From the minute we were escorted to our table to our dessert, we enjoyed every single minute. We had a terrific server who was very attentive and helpful with our choices. The food was delicious! Kudos to the chef who prepared our appetizers & main course with pride. The presentation was beautiful too. Thank you for a memorable evening!"

  • "We were in NYC for just one night, for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had tickets to a play/musical we had long wanted to see ("After Midnight" -- amazing) and chose this restaurant from suggestions on TripAdvisor. We are so happy we did. From the welcome at the front door, the stroll through the lovely downstairs restaurant to the charming upstairs balcony seating, the table service and, of course, the food, it was a treat for all the senses. (Stinco D'Agnello was perfect, as were the vegetables and mashed potatoes.). We are already planning our next visit, with dinner at Osteria al Doge the focus."

  • "We arrived early so we could catch a show. My daughter had lobster with a pasta that was a thick tubular noodle. I had Italian sea bream (orato?). Mine has a great sauce with mushrooms. The glass of wine was reasonably priced and very good. Coffee and cappuccino were both prepared perfectly. I have eaten here a few times and will be back"
