Osteria 177 is the ultimate expression of an Italian tavern where the main attraction is imported delicacies of one-of-a-kind food and wine.   • "This was our first visit to Osteria 177, and because I had read the reviews (which were somewhat mixed) on Open Table, we didn't really know what to expect. Well, what a pleasant surprise! Our waiter, Dimitry, was very knowledgeable and helpful in our menu choices, The food was excellent, and not as pricey, as I had expected from the reviews. The restaurant was very bright and clean, and looked as if it had just opened for business last month, even though I think it is some eight years old. We will definitely be back!!"

  • "Everything was great. The food was excellent - absolutely everything. My husband had the pasta special and I had the swordfish. The caprese salad was exceptional too. The service was also excellent. The waiter was well versed in the menu and he did not lead us astray. We talked about how fabulous everything was for the remainder of our stay. Service: pretentiously "nice" and VERY slow. Not professional at all. Value: Overpriced even with 1000 point from OT. Don't think it was worth a drive from Baltimore."

  • "We ate early starting at 5 PM when they open. Our waiter was a little inexperienced as I was not offered the options that other diners were when ordering the wild boar Osso bucco. The food is always good but very rich. They keep the portions small so you are not overwhelmed. The wine list always has some great selections. Not a place for the faint of wallet. Park in the garage and walk north 1/2 block and your are there."

He was 100% right in his recommendation and the bottle he recommended was cheaper than what I selected. The food was amazing and presentation was perfect. Highly recommend this place."

  • "I have a friend who has lived in Annapolis for 15 years. Recently, I discovered she had never been to the Osteria. My jaw dropped-- how can one live in this city and not know the Osteria? The staff is very polite, accommodating, and cheery. The ambiance is great, and the food is to die for. My entree this time around was the Cioppino alla Genovese, a sort of seafood stew in spicy tomato broth. There were big, succulent chunks of fish, plump clams and mussels, tasty squid, and one very large and perfectly prepared sea scallop, all doused in a seasoned tomato and white wine broth that brought just a touch of heat to the experience. The dish was portioned expertly-- not too much food, and I cleaned my bowl. Can't recommend it enough!"

  • "Osteria 177 always impresses me with perfectly prepared dishes. Their grilled calamari is my favorite appetizer - tender squid served on arugula. A great dish to share for the pasta course is the Gorgonzola, pear, and walnut purses with an amazing but rich cream sauce. I has the Chilean sea bass special and was impressed with this perfectly cooked meal. Dessert was a caramel and salt gelato - heavenly end to a great evening!"

They restaurant allows for flexibility in ordering, and changing ingredients to suit various diets. It felt like the place to be in Annapolis, if you want something other than classic seafood and bar items."

  • "Live in annapolis and finally tried this restaurant. Really liked the vibe and the staff is amazingly friendly. Rachel the hostess is very nice and its refreshing to have such good service. Our table was great! Wait staff was great and knowledgable. Good italian wine list. Appetizers were okay - we tried three apps and the only one we loved was the grilled calamari. The entrees were amazing. They were out of a few things on the menu so that was dissapointing but to be fair we dined on the late side of the evening. Overall loved it. Will be back!"

We also really appreciate the help with their extensive wine list. Our server, John, ensured that we had a great wine that balanced nicely with our food but was relatively affordable.   • "Our waiter was OK until when we arrived. He forgorr my drink and my wife's refill. I got the lobster and shrimp in a pasta red sause, my wife got the filet. When the food came outit was delivered bythe bus boy who by the way never refilled my water gall all night. The waitor NEVER came back to check if the temp was correct which it was not. Ordered a medium rare and received a well done dry.We were so hungry than we both ate off my plate, and took the steak home to the dogs. The final straw was again the bus boy brought the wrong meal.We had to stop another waitor to get itworkeroutandoutwaitor nor a manager ever came over to offera free meal for the problem or even say sorry."

This experience lack the professionalism and knowledge to give detail recommendations of the specific items on the fixed menu. The wait staff was unorganized: food arrived before dirty plates were cleared. My wife and I were disappointed on the lack of quality we have become to expect, especially on a special nite, Valentines Day. The food was well prepared . We will think twice about returning, which is a sad statement for me to make. Management issues and training of the wait staff seem to be the issue."

Ask for something with tequila next time you visit, you will not be disappointed.   • "This is the first time I have had beef carpaccio so I am not sure if it is suppose to be bland or not but ours had very little taste. The Salad was also a little bland. The 2 fish entrees we had were perfectly cooked and had plenty of flavor. The waiter was very attentive but not overly so. We were the first to arrive, they open at 5 for dinner service, and be seat so we had the place to ourselves and it was pretty quite until other customers arrive. The atmosphere was very nice, with a bit of light music and little over all noise. Overall a very nice restaurant and great variety on the menu."

  • "This was our second visit and in comparison to the fist visit, this was nothing that would bring me back. The Sword fish was just ok, nothing to complain about but certainly no "wow" factor, my wife had a Chicken dish she described as tasting like boiled meat although the sauce used to disguise it was "not bad" certainly not worth the cost I can get dinner of this quality at most any chain restaurant."

  • "The food and wine were very good! The server seemed like he was unsure of the wine list. I would have hoped that the servers in such a fine dining establishment would have been able to reccommend a wine to pair with each entree but he was all about pushing the super tuscans. Although delicious they are very pricey and we were looking for a mid priced bottle. I have been in less expensive establishments that have somliers to assist the servers. Don't sit by the door on a cold and busy night! There was a blast of cold air everytime someone entered or left. But again it was New Years and the place was absolutely packed. We had a fine time and the live piano jazz was outstanding! We would return and reccommend to a friend."

  • "For the price it charges, I expected the food at Osteria 177 to be good and I was not disappointed. Order something from their specials menu, which is where we found the best dish of the night - Chilean Sea Bass. Moist, tender, full of flavor, and the chef did not skimp on the size of the sea bass. The Roasted Duck Breast had a crispy skin while still being tender. The food was good, but there was nothing special about the menu. It took a while for the drinks to come out. I ordered a margarita-like cocktail that had a touch of jalapeno juice, but the drink turned out to be so spicy it burned my throat. I asked the waiter to see if I could get it without the jalapeno juice, and he did not seem happy - just snatched up my drink and left."

He made great wine recommendations and when they ran out of my favorite item, the Bronzini (it was a busy night) he made a recommendation of Dover sole that may now be my favorite although they do not have it on the menu all the time. The appetizers of roasted tomato soup and grilled calamari over arugula were delicious. My husband got the filet topped with mushroom, fontina and pecorino and he actually shared a bite and it was perfectly cooked and the toppings did not overpower the great cut of meat. If you have an opportunity to visit Annapolis, this restaurant should be on the schedule."

  • "This is the second time in the last month I have been to Osteria 177. The first time everything was great except the service. Since the food was so yummy, my family thought we would return and give it another shot. The service was just as bad the second time. The food did not come out at once so everyone's food was cold because it took nearly 20 minutes to get all of the dishes out. We had a large party, but I just did not think this was acceptable. My brother-in-law's steak was over cooked, my sister's scallops were really undercooked (her's was the last dish to come out to the table, so we assumed they were trying to rush it).The food took a really long time to come out, which did not bother me but it should have been cooked properly"
