I reported and told the host that I had a reservation. He did not confirm my name, but did seat me promptly. The food was just okay, not memorable in anyway. It is a convenient moderately priced place for lunch. The noise level was excellent primarily because there were fewer than 10 diners in the entire restaurant.

The food is tasty, the service is good and thr prices are in line with the area. For Japanese food foodies, it's your basic made-in-America version of Japanese food, not a taste-of-Japan joint.

This Chestnut Hill mainstay has become one of our go-to spots for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and the like. We are frequent patrons in the upper dining room, which is quite insulated from the lively action downstairs in the sushi bar. The last time we were there, our good-natured but tired server was just finishing up a long double shift, and had a few glitches, but the food and the ambience were, as always, top shelf. We spend half of each year in the San Francisco area, where great sushi bars are as plentiful as great little Italian places in South Philadelphia, and we've never been disappointed with the quality or the creativity of the kitchen staff at Osaka.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a dinner at Osaka. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. We will surely go back. Our food was very good. The lobster ravioli appetizer was amazing! My filet mignon was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful flavor. My husband's entree was a mixture of seafood in a butter broth. The broth was delicious and a great compliment to the generous portion of seafood, the king crab was particularly good. Our desserts were also very good. We had the chocolate lava cake and the tempura ice cream, both were yummy. Our server was friendly, courteous and attentive (but not overly so, just right).

Four hungry diners enjoyed a post-Christmas day dinner. The presentation was beautiful—both the sushi and the gorgeous bowls and platters on which it was served. I wish that my companions had taken a little more time to savor their food. It is easy to watch $100 disappear down gullets in a matter of minutes. But I could not blame them, because the color, taste and balance of flavors were too enticing to resist. Next time I will have noodles after nigiri.

We went to Osaka for a last minute Saturday night meal. Reservations were available with no problem a few hours before but there were few if any available tables while we were there, so make one to be safe. The food was fantastic and there was an energetic feel to the crowd. We can't wait to go back.

Very nice little sushi restaurant in Chestnut Hill with a very nice group of servers. Food was delicious and nicely displayed. Service was a bit slow because it was so busy, but when we expressed that we were pressed for time our server made certain that our food was ready in time for us to make an appointment on time. My wife and I look forward to returning.

Osaka never disappoints. Their sushi is always fresh and bursting with flavor. I would eat there every night if I could. My fiancé and I had dinner for my birthday. Finding high quality Japanese fare in the burbs, and even in Philly metro, is few and far between. We drove 35 minutes to Chestnut Hill only be thrilled by the experience. Although the neighborhood was relatively quiet for a Saturday night Osaka was nearly full. The menu features moderate to gourmet dishes and the executon and quality was excellent. Only Blue Fin in Eat Norriton compares but I actually liked it more and the ambiance is nicer at Osaka. I highly recomend this gem.

Wow. I'm very snooty about sushi and sashimi. Osaka has some of the best in Philly and made me miss my sojourns in Tokyo. Nice wine list, including old vines from Italy and France. Super sumner menu -- the lobster was incredible. Low key, unpretentious, responsive service and overall vibe. Highly recommended.

A sushi restaurant with a few Korean items sprinkled into the mix. The kitchen isn't letting the sushi bar down, either. The price isn't cheap- this is Chestnut Hill- but the value is good and the dark and beautiful interior makes for a special venue for special nights. Including, it's Monday and I want sushi.

We rarely come to Chestnut Hill, but we were in the neighborhood and decided to try out Osaka. I'm a sashimi fan, but my husband won't touch it. He found a short list of non-sushi entrees and ordered the sea bass. His plate came with sweet potatos, crispy onions, asparagus, and what looked to be a 6oz portion of bass.. very nice presentation. I ordered a 10 piece sashimi plate with salmon, tuna, and yellow tail, and an order of steamed vegetables which turned out to nearly raw be broccoli florettesand carrot slices. I was expecting something with more variety and a little less raw. I would not order the side again. All in all, very good. We would go back.

The thing that sets Osaka apart from 95% of the othe sushi places is the quality of the fish and rice. So much of the sushi around is unremarkable supermarket grade sushi that it has become just another food. Osaka's nigiri reminds me of what made sushi my favorite food in the first place.

Went to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday. The service was good but the server (male, tall) needed deodorant. Unpleasant as he was leaning over us to serve the food. It didn't damper the event and esxperience though! A great neighborhood gem and hope not too many people find it but want them to do well. The specialty sushi was out of this world! Had nonsushi eaters with us who found their selections to be quite pleasing. I would highly recommend this to all of my friends!
