  • "Walking through the Fairmont Hotel lobby by the bar complete with live music and loads of people enjoying themselves, I couldn't wait to get upstairs as I expected this same vibrant and lively atmosphere to continue. However, before I even entered the building I should have been clued in that Oru was the one of the only restaurants downtown that had a completely open reservations available for a Friday night. We were one of maybe 6 tables in the entire restaurant... the place was empty. The hostess and servers were fantastic, but the food and the wine were another story. Don't get me wrong, the food was better than average, but not outstanding. The wine is much cheaper by the glass than buying a bottle, found this out afterwards."

  • "I had the steak frites salad which was a little on the bland side and too small a portion for most men I would guess. The three sauces were interesting and very much needed to counter the bland taste of the steak. The fries were overcooked and the shoestring version not as good as the regular larger fries served elsewhere and were a bit soggy as you dug down. Not worth the price in my opinion. Another person at our table had the chicken which was a better portion but again, bland enough to ask for hot sauce to spice it up a bit. The date pudding for desert was very good. The service was really slow so if you don't have time to take 1.5 to 2 hours for lunch don't come on a Friday when they are extremely busy."

  • "Took a friend to celebrate a birthday. Our waiter Brandon and the rest of the staff were very attentive. They were wonderful to put our 2 appetizers on separate plates as we wanted to split them. The food is nicely presented and represents a good mix of west coast eats. The wines, either by the glass or the bottle, are very pricey but you are paying for the atmosphere. I have been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed."

  • "I ordered Chicken, which was flavorless and very hard to cut, same with the steak. No steak knife provided. Alittle dissapointed as I have dined there before. This was a very special day, as it was my 20th anniversary, alittle dissapointed. Only positive thing, desserts!"

  • "We ordered the chefs special and were not disappointed. The restaurant was not crowded, it was a Tuesday night, so they seated everyone with at least 2 tables between us. I appreciated the space and privacy that it created. The waiter was attentive and respectful. (2 women spending 150.00 doesn't always mean this). I would place this restaurant as my favourite high end in Vancouver."

  • "Buffets can always be hit or miss so one is always careful about making that choice when there are other great a la carte items on the menu. Fortunately Oru made that decision easy on Sunday with a fabulous brunch buffet at a reasonable price. There was a wide enough variety to please every palate, including custom egg bennies that all four of us ordered. Plus the service was top notch. My only ouch was the cost of alcohol - mimosas were delicious but pricey. I certainly highly recommend to anyone looking for a great brunch in Vancouver - we'll be back."

  • "Food flavour was good, however, I found the spareribs (with the lobster) slightly over-cooked/dry on the inside. Garnish/final touches a bit too plain/sparse. For the price, could've been generous with some greens/veggies inclusive. We had to order a separate side dish to complete the meal and, thankfully, the crispy kale/ Brussels sprouts with chorizo was surprisingly delicious."

  • "Getting the Cape Breton Lobster was the highlight of the night, it was nicely tasted. The other main course in the menu: Angus Reserve Short Rib was somewhat a bit tasteless though the meat was so soft and moist. Having the pork belly as the appetizer and Strawberry Shortcake Mille Feuille + local cheeses were also great choices of the night. The service and ambience were awesome!"

The lobster we had was grilled perfectly. The best was the dessert. I heard their steak is very good, but it was not offered for the dine out menu. For the main, my lobster was cooked perfectly and the seasoned perfectly so as to let the flavour of lobster shine. However, the brussel sprout, kale and sausage mix was rich to the point of overwhelming."

I saw wines on it for 3 to 4 times retail prices (already exorbitant in BC) and there were only a handful under $100. We paid $87 for a bottle that tasted like plonk. I won't be going back."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to try Oru during the Dine Out Vancouver Festival, a restaurant that we normally wouldn't try because of the cost. But with a three-course menu including an entire Cape Breton Lobster for $38, we were sold! The service started with my confirmation call the afternoon of our meal and ended when we grabbed our coats with bellies full. I won't go on too much about our meal, but will say that everything was amazing and the flavours blew our expectations out of the water. The service was top-notch and our server was fantastic. She completely understood the concept of Dine Out and summed it up perfectly: "we participate in Dine Out with the ultimate hope that our diners will come back once the promotion has ended.""

  • "My wife and I have been checking out some of the better restaurants that have been participating in this year's Dine Out Vancouver, and Oru has been by far our top find this year. The service: amazing. We were well looked after, the entire night. The bartender, our server, and the rest of the staff were courteous, knowledgeable, and professional, not to mention great at their roles. The food: exquisite. While we were tasting from the Dine Out Vancouver prix fixe menu, we did take a gander at Oru's regular menu and will definitely be returning."

The only problem was when my friend and I first sat down, we had to wait 20 minutes for the waiter to come to greet us and bring us water."

  • "We came for the Dine Out Vancouver menu and were not disappointed. Efficient service did not make us feel like we were dining "on a bargain". DH had the pork belly which he declared to be sweet and succulent. I had the sunchoke veloute which was creamy and strong on truffle flavour. We both had the lobster, which was broiled perfectly with a lime paprika butter. The beurre blanc was a nice accompaniment. The highlight for me, however, was the side of roasted brussel sprouts & chorizo which I could have had an entire plate of on its own. My only complaint is the outrageous wine list which made it hard to pair a nice affordable wine with our meal. Add a cocktail each and it was a pricey night out. For us, this is special occasion only place."

This time west coast food is offered, and to ORU's credit, the bread basket and the lobster entree w/brussel sprouts were fantastic.   • "Dineout: Chatted with our waitress, Stephanie, who was highly knowledgeable about wines; the wine list is extensive & interesting (it comes on an ipad; you browse the selection, pick wines and email them to yourself). The waitress noticed that we enjoyed the wine list, so she sent us the Fairmont's sommelier, Jill. We had a very nice conversation with her and she treated us to a taste of Vin Santo before our desert - loved it! It was very nice & luxurious, we were treated extremely well! The food was great, pork belly as a 1st course - you have to try it. Lobster and braised shortribs as mains - perfect. The deserts were strawberry somethings. I recommend Oru highly, this restaurant has to be on everyone's list in Vancouver!"

  • "A high-end restaurant without the snobby attitude. Incredible service (even the Manager checked in on us 3 times) and delicious food - the Sunchoke soup was to die for and unique, the lobster was perfectly cooked (though I'd probably get the ribs next time), and the nut bar was the ultimate guilty pleasure. The view of the spinning globe in the Convention Centre across the street provided a funky yet romantic backdrop. Bonus: the vibrant bar in the hotel lobby featured an amazing live band (Soul Stream, I think) that made you want to stick around and round off the evening with a nice glass of Port. We are definitely going back - two thumbs up."

  • "Service is excellent but food was very average. Pork belly was average . Same thing as any Asian restaurant in Richmond for half the price. Short rib was a bit salty. Lobsters were good but don't expect too much meat. Dessert was ok. No big wow factor. Come for the dinning experience but not the food"
