Service was outstanding and the ambience just as good. That said, my filet mignon could've been a tad more tender and it was served medium rather than the medium rare that I asked for. The King salmon that my fiance had was very good, but seemed to lack in seasoning as compared to some other restaurants that we've sampled. 4 out of 5 on the main course, 5 out of 5 on the appetizers, deserts, and wines. 5 out of 5 on service and ambience. It didn't start out as one of favorite restaurants but over the past couple of years, I'd rank it right up there with the best that Anchorage has to offer (and that's saying something). We had the halibut on this occasion and it was to die for--perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable.
Had a elderflower martini in the bar and it was fabulous!

We took my parents to Orso on 5/6 to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary. They were out of the sparkling wine we ordered but made a suitable substitution for the same price. The service and food were both outstanding. This is what we had expected on our first vist to Orso. Thanks for the wonderful evening. The maitre'd kept us informed-& gave us free appetizers-but we weren't seated till 30 minutes after our reserved time. (Tho inconvenienced, I applaud Orso for not rushing the earlier diners.) The shortcoming: Orso has no waiting room. On the day of my reservation I called ahead because I was concerned with traffic and was assured they'd seat my party guest. I was even helped with directions and locating parking over the phone which saved me time.
The service from entering to exiting was impeccable.
The food (shrimp scampi and lamb shanks), drinks (bottle of wine, irish coffee with dessert, and nightcap Glacier Blonde) and dessert (tiramisu layered with vanilla ice cream) were wonderful.

There are only a couple that I frequent regularly because of their level of personalized service. When you walk in the door and get recognized by name, you know that this restaurant is not just looking for revenue and tips. Orso recognizes me and consistently treats me as if I were an owner, or at least a holder of the Mortgage. I suspect that this behavior is extended to other regulars. I have gone to Orso's at least once a week since July, but before November it was generally a small group of from two to 8. I am greeted by name at the door, and the manager on duty, generally stops by my table to greet me and inquire about the food. This visit, the waiter that I normally have came over to my table to greet me.
