We used opentable to schedule a 9:15pm dinner for two reservation but when we got there the owner told us no reservation needed because he had tables available. That put a damper on the dinner because I had made a special surprise request for my girlfriend on the remarks section and now had to wing it. Ordering was made simple on a make shift menu. It stated we can make a request if not on the menu. However my request for Shrimp Fra Diavlo could not be honored. I ordered the Chicken and sausage dish, she had spaghetti and meatballs. The food was served timely. I was confused. The chicken was way too spicy. I was sweating and over did it on water. I thought I was having an Indian dish not Italian at all! Good for guinea pigs.

I thought the food was very good - the meat and vegetarian menu is a big plus! Some very interesting food blendings, will definitely dine there again and try a different selection, maybe the pasta with chickpea sauce.

This is one of those little places you are thrilled to discover. Charming interior, great, interesting menu and very reasonable prices. And it's very close to the subway, so it's an adventure for those coming from Manhattan, yet very convenient. The wines by the glass, at $6.50 - $7.50 are great, but the bottle selection is an even better value because the quality is better. We started with lamb meatballs, a meal in itself. 2 fish specials were excellent, fresh and tasty. The only little glich is that the wervice was extremely slow - took quite a while to get our check. It was a Monday, but they were still quite busy. Perhaps another pair of hands is needed.

Random look for dinner found this charming spot in Astoria. Pleasant staff... Owner chatted with us and thanked for stopping in. Had the shrimp with white beans.... A pleasant and most delicious choice. Spaghetti Carbonara perfect! Partner had the papardelle with lamb ragout .......will be back to try some more.......

I have never come in contact with a waiter who had such a rude manner and tone.. When we asked him what he would recommend, he responded "I don't know, I don't know you." Who says that? We also spoke to the owner about that, he didn't apologize but rather told us 'that's how he is.' I will never good back. The food was good, but not that good.

I have been going to Ornella for over 2 years now. It is truly my favorite little homey place in Queens. It is my frequent date night spot with my fiance. The food is always fresh and delicious. You can close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and have an amazing dinner. It is a family owned restaurant and the family works there everyday they are all wonderful people with a passion for food and what they are doing at the little gem. I am happy to give them a great review and I will continue to go back again and again. Follow me on all social media: Cheating With Dinner

My partner & I decided to go out for NYE dinner with friends, so it may not be fair to review that night. However, there are a few things to note. When I made the reservation, the posted menu said that the prix fixe dinner was $45; when we got there the menu said $50. I didn't care since we weren't doing the prix fixe (we had nibbles and dessert at home after), but that seemed cheesy. The restaurant is small and we sat in the back near the kitchen, which was a bit cramped; up front has more ambiance. The good news is that the food is very good. We will go back again to test the waters but not on a holiday.

We had dined here previously and had a delicious meal with great service. This time we waited 45 minutes to be served a disappointing pasta dish, even though the restaurant was less than half full. Service was not up to the previous standard. Too bad, as we had hoped to become regulars. We will try again to see if this was just a fluke.

Old neighborhood place with small but good Italian menu. A nice combination of traditional (chicken/veal parm) and non traditional (risotto de mare) dishes. Baked clams had way too much (chopped) garlic. Bread was a little stale but sauces helped when you dipped. Friendly staff and owner.

I love this restaurant's food. Its fresh and interesting - not the same old Northern Italian fare for sure. The owner, his sons, and staff are very genuine and kind. I enjoy myself each and every time I go. Even though you may be tempted to go Greek when in Astoria, if you find yourself in that neighborhood, I highly recommend going to Ornella. By the way, try the Imbustata - amazingly delicious!

Ornella is outstanding. Fresh salads, homemade pasta, large portions of delicious food. We found ourselves impressed by EVERYTHING we ordered. Grilled octopus salad, seafood risotto, short ribs, stuffed pork chop, and cheesecake -- we'd order all of them again! Did I mention the reasonably priced bottle of Gavi? My advice. Go, order a special or two, and enjoy.

This is the third time we dined at Ornella. Even though it was a crowded Saturday evening they were still attentive and the service was good. However, during the week is even better. I do think the chef was a little heavy handed with the sauce. Try the Bianca salad; it's superb! The owner is gracious, charming and contribute to making the experience very pleasant.

As always, the food was fresh and delicous. I cannot visit Ornella without ordering their special pasta dish -- chestnut pasta with pistachio sauce. It is as delectable as it is unique. The owner, Giuseppe, is always so welcoming. Mother's Day is usually the worst day of the year to eat out, but not at Ornella's. We just had a Mother's Day lunch at Ornella after finding the reviews from OT to be somewhat good. The place is so tiny and it clearly is stated in most reviews. Food was just okay especially that they only had a mother's day menu for lunch/dinner for $42.oo/pp. I can get better Italian food for the price. Servers were young and unprofessional. One server spilled red wine on my son's jacket and all over the table cloth. Felt rushed every time they came and not at all friendly. Would not recommend nor go back to this joint!

Unfortunately the day we were there, there was a large party that took most of the staff's attention making our service less than adequate. The restaurant is small, and although the folks there are well meaning, I don't think they were able to handle the other tables because of the birthday celebration. The food was OK but not great. I hope to visit again one day and perhaps get a better experience.

The food was good, but the service was not. I had heard so much about Ornella and was looking forward to trying it, but was very disappointed in the service! The waiters were not friendly at all, I even heard one of them cursing under his breath about something as he walked by. 3 waiters were at our table & their attitude was horrible! It would be great to go back for the food, but probably won't because of the service.
