A word from Origin North
Origin was born out of Chef Claudio Aprile's desire to create a spontaneous, high energy restaurant that serves ingredients at the height of their season. Our large, naturally-lit space is great for all occasions that demand fresh, creative food, and first-rate service.

  • "We started with the caesar salad, which I thought was amazing, couldn't get enough of it - the capers were a perfect touch. For mains, we ordered the tenderloin, chorizo risotto, and the Sunday dinner special: butter chicken with naan and basmati rice with some small cucumber plates. The tenderloin was great and the risotto was really creamy. However, the butter chicken was somewhat a disappointment, the chicken was relatively dry and the sauce itself fell short, I feel. Despite that, the dessert - apple compote was delicious!"

  • "Great food as always - the chinois duck was the best dish. Enjoyed the beet salad and the asian beef salad. Did not care for the pastrami spring rolls and the miso cod was too salty and overpriced. Biggest disappointment - despite there being tons of kids in the restaurant - no baby change table in either washroom. Just wasted space and a try too have retro elementary school sink. Waitress was not as good as the last waiter. She gave poor direction on number of dishes per guest (despite being directly asked) and because of that we were too full for dessert :("

  • "My only complaint is that the portions are too small. For $35, I would have liked to have left satiated ($35 bought me french toast + side of fries + ceasar), and I didn't. I might go again and try a different dish... but considering french toast is mainly bread, they could have economically made the portions larger."

  • "My friends asked for hard-boiled eggs for their daughter although it's not on the menu. The waiter said it's not served here as it took a very long time to cook. But we're not in a hurry!!! When we're about to finish our order, the waiter suggested to pick something from the kid's menu which was not given to us at the beginning. After eating, the waiter asked if they wanted to pack the leftover for their daughter. They said yes but the leftover was never brought back by the waiter. They asked again and it took more than 15 mins to have the leftover. We believed that the waiter had forgot and had the chef cooked again. Definitely not a good experience! Perhaps the waiter didn't sleep well the night before and had lost his mind."

  • "I have been to Origin North several times. The food and service are never disappointing. I usually book reservations online. This time I did the same one week in advance. I received a confirmation by email 2 days in advance, then I received a phone call as a reminder a day later, which I thought was odd and a bit annoying since it only was a lunch for two. The funny part was that when we showed up at the restaurant, there were no reservations. We were accommodated but ..."

  • "I was filled with local (Bayview) village pride when I saw two of "our" chefs, Bonacini and Aprile both on the panel of "Master chef Canada". So we went for dinner at Aprile's place "Origins", with big expectations. We already made our mind about we would order from their web place. Well, they changed the menu. The new menu was not new, but much shorter. None of the the things that we wanted were on this new menu. Whatever we had was average; my duck chinois was too greasy and on the dry side.Very few desserts. We had the table side bar of nitro ice cream, that was fun , but not haute cuisine. The wine selection was original, and very good. The server was nice, but she had to answer "no" to many of our demands , due to menu "shrinkage"."

  • "This was my first experience for brunch at this restaurant and it was to celebrate a belated birthday. Unfortunately while it has a terrific location and was very busy, I found the service to be fair as far as attentiveness goes, our food was cold and the bacon was undercooked. The sweet potato mash was very good -- would be better minus too much cheese. In fairness we did not mention anything to the server as we were all just happy to get together and catch up. It was very busy so obviously many enjoy the restaurant it may have just been our luck that day."

  • "We ordered two appetizers which came out on time, but after ordering a third they brought out the wrong one. The server questioned if we really ordered the other one "because the chef was upset we sent the wrong one back." Since I have ordered at origin before and had this dish, I knew exactly what I wanted and even pointed to the item on the menu. After we received the item we ordered we waited about 45 minutes for our main dishes to come out, and when we finally asked where they were the waitress said we didn't order anything else. She had forgot to enter in our main dishes and asked if we would still want them. It took another 45 minutes for them to come out, which we ended up taking to go because we had been there for 2.5 hours."

She recommended another bottle which she said was similar in both quality and price and was right on. Would go back for dinner for sure and will even drop in for lunch. The lobster ceviche appetizer was amazing."

  • "we had brunch on Sunday early afternoon. the restaurant was not that pack. bUT after we finish the appetizers, it took them at least 20 minute to serve the main dish. and I need to remind them to refill my coffee. we spilled the juice on the table, the waitress passing by just completely ignoring us. we had to ask someone to clean it up. also, no butter or jam with the toast, And not even s spon for the soup. we had to request them ourselves. food was pretty good. but they have lots of work to improve for their service. brunch wise, cora is way better in terms of services and food."

  • "My husband and I took our parents here for dinner on a Sunday night. We have dined her previously on Fri+Sat nights as a couple for a 'date night'. Great service from our young lady server (the lady with the tattoos - nothing offensive about them - sorry I just can't remember name right now, but she is super friendly and charming). Overall, my fave dishes are the bufalo w/pear app (hands down winner), scallop ceviche, calamari, tender beef, + dulche de leche dessert."

  • "This was our 2nd time there. Greeting was good along with the sitting. Waitress was attentive. Food was good but I would not order the Brussel Sprouts again. That was a weird taste. Ceviche (for some reason they spell it with an 'S) was excellent. I like that they have various dishes to try. Not all can be really good and there are still more for me during the next visit. Good restaurant for sharing."

  • "We both live in the area and had never experienced Origin. Upon entering, we were greeted by a lovely young Hostess, very well groomed and engaging. I must say that the decor is gorgeous, very funky and fun! I love the idea of an open kitchen. Our female server (don't recall her name) was, at first, helpful, but as time went on her level of service dropped. She explained the menu adequately, however, recommended a white wine to my friend that was too sweet. When my friend requested another glass of wine, she mentioned it, however, was not given an apology by the server. The server merely suggested a Chardonnay. I ordered the Florentine Frittata which was a plain, tasteless omelette with spinach and little or no feta! Way overpriced at $14"

  • "Went for lunch on a Monday. The butternut squash risotto was the best we've ever tasted, so creamy and delish. And the portion was huge. The Thai curry shrimp was another winner. The soft and thick naan bread was just perfect for sopping up all the yummy curry sauce. The burger was juicy and big. I didn't sample the quiche myself but my friend was raving about it. Thought the dishes were supposed to be tapa sized but we only ordered one dish per person and were so full we had to skip dessert. Service was okay good but lacked sophistication. Overall, we all enjoyed our meal very much and will definitely return."

  • "The food is outstanding. The ice cream made at your table a must (and I'm not an ice cream fan)! Our server was helpful and very knowledgeable. We gave the chef a wave and he came to our table to give us some dessert recommendations. Next time I would request a booth when making my reservation as the tables are seated very close together."
