Diner Reviews
  • "Great food. My wife and I chose this one for an unexpected Friday night out. Our requirements were solid reviews from other diners and a farm-to-market menu (or as close to such a beast as Dallas can provide), and Origin didn't disappoint a bit. We shared 5 small plates, and each one that came out was better than the last. Looking forward to a return visit soon!"

  • "I went here for brunch recently and the service was great and the food was good. When going back for dinner, the food was great but the service was terrible. I would recommend Origin for a casual brunch spot but the dinner ambience and service is lacking."

  • "We are mussels quail cheese/meat plate and Brussels salad. The quail was the best."

  • "The food was absolutely delicious! Who knew brussel sprouts were so yummy? The petite filet was tender and cooked medium rare, exactly as I like it. The pork tenderloin with walnut mousse was amazing. The burger got rave reviews as well. The scallop special, while very tasty, was a small plate, not an entree portion. Instead of dessert, the bartender created after dinner drinks for each of us based on our individual tastes. It was a fun process and the drinks were creative and delightful. The atmosphere is casual chic with attentive staff, who obviously enjoy their work. Refreshing!"

  • "This was our third time at Origin and another great experience. The food is fresh and appealingly presented with nice balance of flavors. We started with the cheese and charcuterie board which we shared. Past visits we've been wowed by the crab and avocado salad and warm shaved brussels salad. Our entries were the petite filet and the hanger steak, both perfectly cooked, sliced and arrayed on the plate with beautiful accompaniments, and though both beef, very different flavors. Service is attentive and knowledgeable. The wait staff seems to enjoy working here. Vibe is casual, easy, friendly. Of the 20 or so eateries in the Knox-Henderson area (my neighborhood) I like Origin's food best."

  • "I'm trying places I can walk to from my house, taking advantage of my neighborhood. I'd seen Origin from their start but never gone in and I was very pleasantly surprised. Great menu, service and energy."

  • "We dropped in for brunch, but couldn't resist the brussels sprout salad. Yum. Great service, cute place."

  • "Very enjoyable brunch experience in a neighborhood of trendy eateries. Highly recommended."

  • "We were a table of three that was not amongst a full restaurant, and our drink order took nearly 15 minutes. After the initial wait, rest of the service was timely including drink refills. Food was good, would go back to sample another item and hope for improved service."

  • "I am so glad my friend introduced me to this hidden gem. Spectacular food, great services and a wonderful ambience.!"

  • "Origin is a wonderful combination of sensory experiences from the delightful smiles that greet one at the door, the inviting aromas flowing from the kitchen to the beauty of the plate as it arrives and finally the exquisite tastes as they hit the tongue. Origin is becoming one of our favorite destinations for a meal at any hour or any occaision. The staff is truly gracious, friendly and fun. The menus are fresh in concept and the outcome fresh, perfectly cooked and outstanding in flavor the food has always been prepared taking advantage of the flavors of each ingrediant and nothing is masked in overpowering sauces or spice mixes. This spot puts the pleasure in to the dining experience."

  • "We all had the burger, and it was delicious. Great beer selection as well. And the service was great."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "Food was great. The charcuterie selection was excellent and the chef came out and gave us an explanation of where it was all from, which was cool. Our entrees were really good, too. It took forever for us to get our drinks, and we were getting frustrated, but when they came out the bartender walked over and apologized, saying it was his fault, not the waitress' and bought us another round for free. Very nice of them. Thumbs up."

  • "great take on classics. Drinks, Apps, Meal and Dessert were all great. Creme Brule cake was amazing."

  • "Service: everyone was very attentive, polite, and helpful. However, our server came off very awkward, bc there were many uncomfortable silences and stares throughout the dinner. Food: Salmon Ceviche had great clean flavors, very balanced and great quality fish. They come with house made chips which are a great complement to the acidic ceviche. Only complaint was that the chips came out very greasy. Brussels sprout salad: if you like brussel sprouts you'll love this. Its a mix between brussels sprouts and caesar salad. Chicken: The chicken came out luke warm at best, and we were about to send it back...Once I tasted it, I forgot about the temperature. Super moist, flavorful, and perfectly cooked! We will absolutely go back and order again! "

  • "We were driven to eat here because your 2-hour wait at another venue that night was disastrous! And, fortunate for us, Origin was able to accommodate our party of 10 on such a short notice. We started out with the hummus, it was very good, just wish there was more of it for $11. The majority of us ordered the hamburgers with sweet potato fries ($15)! A few others had the Heart brand petite filet ($25) and it was delicious as well. When the plates of food arrived, the entire table was silent as we were all inhaling our food. The desserts were interesting but not much of a selection, cups served for coffee were huge and strong brewed! If we were back in that area, the hamburgers and hummus may be worth another visit."

  • "We dined on last Friday night 5/17/14 and our food took over 50 minutes to arrive. Our waiter was very nice but it appeared he was the only server for the entire restaurant that evening between 6:45 -8:45. The menu was very interesting and our food was good, but my red fish was very greasy, the and the veggies overcooked. My husband's pork was better prepared but also on the greasy side...our server emphasized the local, fresh nature of their dishes and we loved that idea, but the dishes didn't reflect their vision that Friday night. We'll be back however, hoping this was just a fluke evening."

  • "Went for Mother's Day brunch and had a hard time deciding what to eat! Loved the chiliquiles with malanga chips! The creme brûlée French toast was yummy - not too sweet! Fresh ingredients with a twist! Will definitely be back! A little on the noisy side so not a good romantic venue but has a nice upbeat vibe"

  • "We went for Mother's Day brunch. I got a bottomless mimosa, which was delicious, but would hardly call it bottomless considering my glass would sit empty for lengthy amounts of time until I could wrangle a server to refill it. We also waited approx 45 min to get our food, brunch food that is. It took entirely too long, and considering how loud the restaurant was, we were pretty over it by the time we were eating. I love the paleo menu, the food is priced great, fresh, and large portions. If they found a way to slightly quiet down the room (I normally am not bothered by loudness) and DEFINATELY sped up service I would love to go back!"

  • "Went here on a whim for Mother's Day and it did not disappoint! Food was amazing (a fresh spin on traditional favorites) and it had a great atmosphere. Sampled a little bit of everything, had one of the best Blood Mary's ever and walked out fat and happy. It was so good, we tried to go back the next night. Note to self: restaurant is closed on Mondays!"

  • "This was my first time here and I would go back. We went there for Mother's Day breakfast. I ordered the acai bowl and enjoyed this sweet breakfast...glad it was loaded with nuts. The breakfast menu was unusual...but I am glad that it did have some ordinary fare also. I did like that there was just the sound of the patrons and the chefs cooking behind me and no music. I would much rather just hear the hustle and bustle of the people... and that we did hear as the restaurant was full. I do wish the waitress would have checked on coffee refills...if we needed one we had to find the waitress and ask for it...and it was not easy catching her! I enjoyed the atmosphere...the decor was sleek. All in all it was a great experience."

  • "The flavours of the food were pretty good and the drinks were ok. But generally I had a bad experience... half the menu was sold out (we were there at 8:30pm on a Saturday) and entrees took over 45 mins to come out after being ordered. Disappointed because I've been here for brunch before and it was fun and good. Would not recommend for dinner though."

  • "Small fresh menu with outstanding cuisine. The mussels in the white wine and cream sauce was incredibly delicious. Loved the shaved Brussels sprout salad. Really! Try it! Both fresh fish entrees of the evening were delicate (the Mediterranean fish) and flavorful and succulent ( Texas red fish). We should have stopped there but could not resist the dark chocolate dessert in martini glass. We sat outside on patio and enjoyed every bite "

  • "Really enjoyed Origin. Service was engaging and friendly. Food was exceptional. This is not a hamburger joint but the hamburgers here may very well be the best on the planet. Avocado and crab salad was really good and Texas Red Fish was very nicely done. Origin certainly deserves to be on the Dallas dining map!"

  • "This former coffee joint has turned into a small but hip foodie joint. Great food, cool atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. They need a little more help because they were all running at wharp speed but it was a little hard to keep up. Other than that, 5 stars all the way."

  • "Great food and great service. I've been there for both brunch and dinner (first time brunch, the service was a little slow) but dinner this last time more than made up for it. Will definitely go back again and even make it a regular dinner spot on my rotation!"

  • "First time at Origin but won't be our last. Service was very accommodating but not intrusive and our waitress did a great job in spite of having tables inside & outside. Food was very good. Next time though we'd have the duckaroni & brussels salad with our entrees.. Mussels & the bread they came with was excellent as was the Short rib. Hanger steak good but a little chewy. Split desserts to sample them all & the white chocolate one the winner. Excellent cocktail menu & wine list & quite the happening place later on a Saturday evening. A wonderful vibe happening and the care and respect for local purveyors evident in the menu. Everyone works very hard and it shows. We look forward to our next visit. Need to try brunch. Thanks."

  • "The staff is very friendly. The food is tasty. The menu is limited, but I think this is a strength. If you are in the mood for options, save this restaurant for another day and head over to the Cheesecake Factory! ;-)"

  • "I love brunch but there weren't many things I could identify with on the menu. It was all very elaborate but when I got my "Egg in a hole" it didn't have much taste to the biscuit and what looked great was actually fairly bland. I either I didn't understand the concept of the restaurant or it didn't deliver."

  • "service was slow. poorly coordinated. we arrived at 7:05...ordered wine...got it at 7:30...25 minutes is much too long. waiter was running around and not focused. Should have been there at 7:10. 20 minutes of wine consumption was missed and equally bad for owner. food was good. atmosphere was nice and enjoyable."

  • "We loved this restaurant! The brûlée butternut squash main dish was super tasty and surprising! Everything worked so well together. At the conclusion of our meal I told my husband I want to have this same thing for dinner tomorrow night!!! The owners are on site and delightful! Go, you won't be disappointed!!!"
