Diner Reviews
  • "It was our third anniversary and the crew at the Ore House in Durango made it SO special! We love eating here, and the food was delicious! We will definitely come back in the future for special occasions."

  • "We arrived 45 minutes early and were delighted when we were able to be seated not too many minutes later. We decided to have beer with our dinner (instead of the usual glass of wine) so we could sample a Durango brewery. Mike chose a beer named Modus Hoperandi, which was an IPA. It had citrus notes, with grapefruit being the predominate flavor. It was crisp and refreshing even though it was 35 degrees outside and it paired well with our entrees. I had a wedge salad with a mild blue cheese dressing and roasted tomatoes - nicely done. Mike enjoyed a non-traditional French onion soup topped with cheese and toasted croutons which stayed crisp. We shared a well prepared 6 ounce bacon wrapped filet along with yummy mashed potatoes."

  • "We have been here twice and the food was amazing both times. The steaks are excellent, and we look forward to coming back and dining here again."

  • "Took a newly engaged couple here to celebrate along with our 17-year-old son. Both love steaks, so Ore House made sense as it's known for it's great beef. Our son mowed down a great-looking 12-oz. filet with ease and said it was wonderful (offered no bites!). One guest had the salmon and she said she enjoyed it and finished it. The other two men also had steaks and were very pleased. I had the featured scallops. While they tasted great, they were rather small to be a featured item. The sweet potato puree was excellent, however I'm not sure about the combination with the scallops - kind of strange. Our server, Brittany, recommended a great wine that was very reasonably priced and her service was impeccable. Decor is old cowboy, but fun."

  • "During a guys' ski trip, we've eaten here the last two years and found it to be terrific. Good food (steaks particularly), great service. Even found Silver Oak cab on the menu for a reasonable price."

  • "We've eaten at the Ore House for years but usually on our birthdays when we get a percentage discount. Since the great salad bar disappeared everything seems to be ala carte which is expensive. For 3 of us with no alcohol and no dessert it cost us $127 plus tip for one side salad, one appetizer, and 3 entrees. We'll be back but only on our birthday. This is Durango, not New York City!"

  • "My husband and I went in to celebrate a post Valentine's Day dinner (we own a flower shop here in town, so going out on Valentine's is out of the question) and we made reservations for Tuesday night. The restaurant was really busy for a Tuesday night, so the atmosphere was energetic and busy. We had an amazing dinner with excellent service and our steaks were prepared just perfectly! We tried a couple of new side dishes and they were delicious - I highly recommend the Mac & Cheese and the baked potato was a feast in and of itself. I also tried one of the new cocktails on the menu and it was tasty too! The Ore House is always a great place to eat to celebrate a special occasion and they did not disappoint!"

  • "I was very disappointed in the food but mostly with the service. Our waitress seemed like she could care less about our needs. But she was very attentive to the other customers she was serving. It was pretty sad that I had better service at Denny's down the road for a fractions of the price."

  • "6 of us came to eat, 2 from Colorado Springs and 4 from Chicago. We booked our reservation on line. My husband had eaten with you before and wanted to go back. We are glad we did, good service and great food."

  • "The Ore House is my favorite restaurant. Old Western memorabilia hangs all over the walls to commemorate is longevity at this location. The food is modern and absolutely delicious. The ambiance is relaxed and simple. The meats are cooked to perfection, the vegetables are scrumptious and the house-made drinks are to die for. I go here every time I come to town."

  • "Great but I think the corn muffins need to go. I think French Bread is a much better selection especially in a Steak House style restaurant. Everything else is great. I love the steaks. Thanks"

  • "The server was so helpful and nice. It was my birthday and her recommendation of the Delmonico steak was the best steak I ever had. I celebrated my birthday at the perfect restaurant.cause a steak is what I needed and a friendly environment. This was the first time I came to the Ore house and I can't wait to come back."

  • "Food wasn't that good. I've ate better at family restaurants. way over priced for the small portions you get. didn't like having to buy a potato and a salad."
    Dined on 12/27/2013
  • "Small quaint eatery located in the heart of Durango. Food was good, in my opinion this is not a 30 plus dollar steak house for just a steak alone. I would put a value of 19.95 for the rib eye at the highest level of price. The restaurant would appeal to a couple or family looking for a small dining room experience. I would probably go back... I would suggest looking at steak quality versus price charged. Yes yes I know you are in Durango and you are the number 1 steak house in town. However, my wife did like her steak..."

  • "We have been to the Ore House in Durango many times. One of the nice things they do here is to provide a discount for diners on their birthday. You are provided a discount as a percentage of your age. So this year, my wife received a 74% discount on her meal at the Ore House. It is a great feature that attracts many customers."

  • "I have lived in the area for a while now but had not had a chance to stop into ore house. While I would define the prices as high end the food was worth the price and the staff was educated on the menu beyond "I memorized the specials", which is nice when trying something different."

  • "Our party of four each had a different item. All three steaks were cooked perfectly and excellent. The Chicken Cordon Blue was good and the accompanying sauce was a perfect fit. We had the garlic mashed potatoes and the asparagus sides, and of course a couple of mixed greens salads to split. Absolutely perfect meal. We will return again and again! Still our favorite Durango haunt. Go early to avoid the crowds."

  • "Everytihng was good but also had a disapointment. The man I was with had a birthday so got his discount for his age, etc. We ordered 2 desserts to go and had 2 discount coupons from Farmers Insurance. We understood that since there was a discount for the birthday that we could not use the free card for that dessert but the waitress would not let me use the discount card for my dessert either. I paid the full amount for my entree and therefore felt it should have been honored. We cancelled the 2 desserts and left."

  • "I was pleased with the whole experience. I have eaten in many steak houses and this one did not dissapoint me. The online reservation system worked well and as soon as we got there we were greeted and seated promptly. It was not a busy night but the hostess was right on with her duty. Very friendly and made us feel welcome. After being seated we were given the proper amount of time to get settled and take in the decor as well as look at the menu. I really enjoyed the food, the staff and ambiance of this restaurant. I also left feeling like we were appreciated as customers. That is such a plus in my book. Thank You Ore House"

  • "GREAT FOOD, amazing service, nice ambiance. However, the menu has been changed to be a la carte unless you order one of their "specials". So, while you will pay $23+ for a steak, you will also pay $4-$9 to add gravy, onions, green chile, etc. and then if you want to add any other sides such as a veggie or loaded baked potato, plan on adding another $7+ each. My husband ordered a water, and I had a coffee, we had 1 app and 2 dinners, and we walked out of there having spent a little over $100 just the two of us. Too many other great places to eat in Durango where we could have spent lots less $. Like I said, wonderful food, but not somewhere we would frequent often due to high prices. Perfect for special occasions!"

  • "We were in Durango visiting Fort Lewis College with our son. We went to dinner at Ore House, and had a delicious meal. While the dinner was pricey, it was well worth it. We had wonderful service, the steaks were superb, and we were very pleased. We topped off our dinner with a chocolate torte/mousse, and it was a perfect touch. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Durango, where price is not an issue."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at the Ore House 3 times now in recent years and have never been disappointed. Its known for its steaks but this time around I opted to do what many have sworn to do previously and simply order sides for my meal. My wife had the filet and it was perfect as expected and I ordered french onion soup, sweet creamed corn, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. All were served in individual cast iron pans and served piping hot. It was fantastic but please remember that that each of these sides is more than enough for two. Maggie was our server and very attentive and timely."

  • "This place is a rip off tourist trap! The food was not good at all! $31 for six shrimp - absurd and obscene! Ken and she's around the corner is a way better choice! Save your money and go somewhere else. Used to love this place but really all I can do is be upset at how much money I wasted and I will never go back!"
