We were at Orchids to celebrate a special birthday dinner. Orchids staff made sure it was extra special. The food was outstanding. Chateaubriand for me and the guest of honor. It was delicious. The accompanying asparagus was cooked perfectly, and the mashed potatoes were good as well. Another guest raved about her scallops, and the fourth person in our party enjoyed his chicken (which was prepared just as he requested). A personalized birthday greeting card was on the table for the guest of honor, and following dinner she was presented with a beautifully written "Happy Birthday" in chocolate on a white plate accompanied by some sweet treats. The Orchids restaurant room at the Hilton is amazingly beautiful. Service was great. And even the price was good considering the outstanding experience. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

  • Not the same experience as last year

    Dined on 11/21/2014
This was our second visit in the last year. The previous visit ticked all the boxes and was outstanding. This time, we were not informed that the prix fixes menu was smaller portions. They were significantly smaller than the normal ones. Further, the wine pairing was an additional $30 but based on 4 very small pours, I was hard pressed to see any value there at all. One in our party of four had 3 courses, the others four. However, the kitchen did not prepare even a small additional amuse bouche to fill in the missing appetizer course. We were asking a lot of questions about wine, but at no time did we seem to deserve the presence of the maitre d/sommelier. A bit disappointing. The appetizer dishes were very small and suitable but not inspiring. The main course venison was outstanding and the highlight of the evening. Sauces were sweet (duck, venison, etc) but still good. Scallops were A- and the fish was well prepared "en papillote". Desserts had good Valrhona chocolate components and birthdays were appropriately acknowledged. What was missing was the precision from our last visit and the opportunity to meet the sommelier. Our server was very nice but not seeming to recognize some of these small things one expects from the Orchid.

We had never been to this restaurant before. I t is in a building dating back to the 1930's and it still has the Art Decco charm. The restaurant is more upscale than we anticipated. The service was attentive. The food was very good but small portions and heavy on presentation. They gave us a small complimentary starter, tasting of a beet salad and a few candies for dessert. We had theatre tickets and knew we had a time limit and were very helpful in serving us promptly.

Loved everything about this restaurant--and we are foodies and probably over-critique wherever we go. Attentive service; all 4 courses were outstanding and artistically plated. It was our 35th anniversary and they had a lovely card waiting at our table with our names on it--a very nice touch. Would definitely come back here--Chef is inventive and we were duly impressed!

My husband and I enjoyed our 8th anniversary last evening at the spectacular Orchids at Palm Court. We selected the five course tasting menu with pairings. Each course was lovely, flavorful and near perfection. The ambiance, spectacular. The service we received from Debbie, and the three gentleman working in concert with her, was extraordinary - it can be likened to a perfectly executed symphony. The attention to detail left us amazed. From the hand written ingredient list on how to make our fabulous cocktails at home (personally delivered by the creator and bar manager) to Debbie recognizing how much we loved the sauce from our first course and bringing extra to dip our bread, we were in awe of how incredible they made our evening.

formal setting. staff are courteous without making interactions overly ceremonious. Some may consider the environment stodgy at a glance but the ambiance is certainly not. Cocktails are satisfying though nothing has been particularly noteworthy. It is worth visiting Orchids just to try the lobster salad - it is delicious without being rich or heavy. Pork belly is also often requested, I'm told, and I can see why. Red snapper and scallops were both excellent. lamb description is intriguing and overall was good but I would not get it again. They have recently gotten rid of ponzu meyer lemon tart which was on their summer dessert menu, and was worth a visit. I'm reassured it will return in some months. I will return to orchids many times.

We had a beautiful evening. The atmosphere was just spectacular. Service good but many people running about! We were unsure of who exactly was our waiter. The appetizer or first course selections were just too fancy for our tastes and there were no other options for "normal" folks. I don't like fois gras and sweetbreads even though I know they are very popular. My 2nd course was a butternut squash tart with greens. The tart was very crumbly and the butternut squash was just a THIN painted-on smear of a squash liquid...nothing like I would have imagined....I thought the squash would have been more substantial. Our lamb was good but serving size very small. Overall the dining experience was great, but we would not go back.

We celebrated the 3-year anniversary of the day we met (also our first date and the day we started our relationship). We were recently married, and it was really nice to celebrate as a married couple. The service was outstanding, and all of the food was amazing. We enjoy the chateaubriand with the tableside preparation, bleu cheese beignets beforehand and the seasonal pumpkin dessert. The pastry chef was awesome and wrote "Happy 3rd Anniversary!" in chocolate on our dessert plate. How fun! The architecture has been very well-preserved in the restaurant and throughout the hotel. The history of this building is intriguing as well. We have been to many fine restaurants in downtown and greater Cincinnati, and Orchids is at the top!

The Orchids at Palm Court and Chef Todd Kelly continue to amaze us. Every time we visit the service is unparalleled and the food is as delicious as ever. We love the small touches we experience when dining at The Orchids - the view of the amazing art deco design, the scrumptious palate cleanser to start the meal, the attentive and informed staff, the perfectly prepared meals. This was our anniversary meal and per usual the staff was on top of it welcoming us by name and leaving a congratulatory card on our table. We worked our way through the courses with braised artichokes (delicious), blue cheese beignets (a must), sweet potato soup (sweet, spicy, and wonderful), and the Chateaubriand (so tender and flavorful). The best in town!

Let me just start by saying there was nothing bad about our night at Orchids, but there was nothing great either. My wife really enjoyed her lobster salad but our entree of Chateaubriand was anything but memorable. The pork belly and squab duet was good but not great and the same goes for the sweet potato soup. The service was about the same as the food, good not great. We had a table of "regulars" sitting behind us that seemed as though every member of the wait staff stopped by their table. Subsequently we felt as if we were the "other" table. This would all be completely acceptable at a lesser restaurant but if you are paying 4 star prices you expect 4 star quality.

Love the seating options throughout the restaurant. It was not crowded, like I anticipated. My husband and I were seated at a quaint corner booth which was perfect. We enjoyed the palate starter followed by the Maine Lobster Salad (with a fried egg? yes, please!!). They brought us a sampling of the beet salad which served as a unique palate cleanser. Our entrees were cooked perfectly and the pairings on the plate were nothing short of genius. We enjoyed the dessert but it was more of an afterthought than the focus of the experience. A treat tray and a house-made granola rounded out the evening. The granola cookie alone is enough to go back for. I should mention that the service is impeccible, they have every moment timed out perfectly.
