Diner Reviews
  • "Starting with a great selection of bourbon and scotch, and moving to inventive appetizers, the food is wonderful. Very fresh fish entrees and finished with the lightest and fluffiest key lime dessert ever. Great and knowledgeable staff makes for a perfect evening."

  • "We have been coming here for years, but not recently. So we hoped it was still as good as we had experienced. It was, and another couple that we brought loved there food too. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommend it. Smallish rooms but charming."

  • "The food was very good, however, the portions were inadequate. My wife and I both left still hungry after an appetizer and main course."

  • "Food is exceptionally good. Staff can be a bit chilly. Overall excellent."

  • "Our waitress was very nice. Ambience is just OK. We were in a center room with a few tables. I had a sashimi appetizer that was fantastic - super fresh. My entree fish was also fresh - but it had a hard sear on it and the oil didn't taste very fresh or high quality. Over-all a good meal. But not great."

  • "Absolutely a world class dining experience! It was so good we went back two nights in a row! Highly recommend it!"

  • "We've been here every other year or so since it opened, but have seen the quality of food and staff gone down some. With Restaurant Week 2014 in effect, the waiter brusquely discouraged us from the prix fixe option, which we did. The food was adequate and the service courteous, but infrequent and distant. We were not totally disappointed, but on ACK, there are better restaurants."

  • "A great meal with interesting flavors without heavy sauces. We did the 4 course restaurant week option and everything was delicious."

  • "We were in Nantucket during restaurant week and were very pleased with our decision to eat at Oran Mor. The tasting menu was creative and excellently executed, we could not fault the ambiance and service. A lovely dining experience."

  • "The food her is always amazing - creative, interesting, beautifully presented, and....delicious! Would eat here all the time, if I could."

  • "This was by far the best meal we had on Nantucket. Food and service were excellent. A must do kind of place"

  • "Oran Mor is a wonderful place to eat whether it is a special occasion or just for a night out. The food could not have been better and the service was everything that you could ask for. The atmosphere is nice and cozy since the restaurant is located on the second floor of an older house in the downtown area. Not too loud but not too quiet. Come to Oran more if you are looking for a great dining experience."

  • "My husband and I tried Oran Mor on a whim last year while visiting the island. You barely notice the restaurant from the outside but I'd heard good things about their food. We were so pleasantly surprised with our experience that we make it a point to go there for dinner each time we visit the island. The atmosphere is small and quaint, service outstanding and the food is the best I've had on the island. We've been there three times now and we've never been disappointed. We always walk away talking about how amazing the food was."

  • "It is a very warm inviting setting that is subtle but elegant (especially in the front room). The food is prepared with great care, and nicely presented. We have been there three times now and the food was fabulous each time. Very interesting combinations without being pretensous. We just love it there. "

  • "The cuisine ranges from Asian influences with spicy duck or to pork belly with polenta or unusual seafood such as octopus or lobster caviar fettuccini to more common American dishes such as porkchops, striped bass or sea scallops. Servings are large, even for the appetizers. Oran Mor provides more choice of desserts than some of the other Nantucket restaurants including a special of the evening. Service is attentive and competent and was nicely paced at my dinner. I try to dine here every time I visit Nantucket. Always a good meal. "

  • "We have dined here several times and it is an outstanding restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is competent, and the atmosphere is nice as well. Nice wine list and wine selections by the glass also. Top dining experience but in a friendly and casual environment."

  • "I ordered the seasonal vegetable medley appetizer for $14.00. It was a few microscopic pieces of onion, tomato, and carrot over a smear of goat cheese. For dinner, I had the miso glazed black cod with sweet potato lasagna. I got two pieces of cod, each about the size of a chicken McNugget and the lasagna was more like a teaspoon of ricotta between two shavings of a sweet potato. $34.00!! The waitress was very friendly but was overworked so the service was mediocre at best. I will say that the carrot cake dessert was AMAZING! Overall, the food TASTED delicious but I left broke and hungry. "

  • "My husband and I enjoyed an outstanding dinner at Oran Mor. We started with the grilled baby octopus which had the most delicate and delicious flavor. We both ordered the duck as our entree and it was superb. The portion of duck was generous and served over the best grits I've ever had - and as a girl from Eastern North Carolina, I've had a LOT of grits in my day. For dessert I had the carrot cake served with a cream cheese frosting and it was yummy but my husband's mango sorbet with notes of pepper, lime and sea salt was really the stand out. We thoroughly enjoyed eating our way through Nantucket but Oran Mor was our favorite. Go and have some more grits for me! "

  • "This is still one of my all time favourite restaurants. The food is ALWAYS fabulous, the service is excellent and the ambiance lovely. If you only go to one restaurant in Nantucket, it should be this one."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Nantucket -- and we dine here often. The food is almost always fabulous. This time I had a beet salad with a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg, deep fried in bread crumbs. My pork short ribs were tender with a crispy pork belly, although both were salty. My husband loved his salad wedge and we both fought over his perfectly cooked halibut. Too full for dessert, but would've definitely ordered the brownie sundae."

  • "Great food, service, ambience and would definitely return , as we have done, many times. New bartender kept us waiting half an hour for a cocktail, and wasn't the best at the creation of an old fashioned."

  • "Considering that it was the opening of the season, we we're amazed how well everything went and how the quality of the food was at its standard high level. Our server was very professional; not "too" friendly, but cordial and knowledgeable. Oran Mor continues to be our favorite restaurant on Nantucket. "

  • "This is the fifth Thanksgiving dinner we've had at Oran Mor and each experience has been outstanding. Wish we could afford to eat here more often. Inventive food, beautifuly prepared and presented, with a wait staff that is attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "Always a treat to dine here. The food and service are wonderful. This has to be one of our favorite places to dine on the island."

  • "What a wonderful restaurant! This was the first trip to Nantucket for myself and my husband and we truly loved the island. This restaurant, as well as others, impressed us with its commitment to becoming self-sustaining by using foods from local farms, etc. Oran Mor Bistro not only used these local foods but the chef used them in very innovative and creative ways without "overdoing", thus mixing so many flavors that they were indistinguishable and one doesn't know what he or she has eaten! How fortunate you are to have such a great chef! We enjoyed every minute of our 5 days on the island and hope to return in the near future."

  • "One of the best meals of my life! The Fig Burratta was exquisite and the chicken was outstanding! Finished my meal with the doughnut holes! My only regret is that I couldn't eat them all! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We totally enjoyed our dinner and finally, we found a restaurant that offered a great menu for restaurant week. Outstanding homemade Burrata, risotto with scallops and duck! The dessert was excellent as well. The service was attentive. The only negative was that we were sitting so close to a noisy table--one woman with a rather loud voice. Not the restaurant's fault; although, some of the tables are very close together."

  • "The food was perfection. The service was the finest we've had in recent memory, quick and attentive in a subtle, unobtrusive way. We wanted a special evening for our anniversary, and we certainly found it. We will definitely make a reservation at Oran Mor on our next visit to Nantucket and will recommend it to our friends."

  • "We had a fantastic dinner at Oran Mor...great service, food, and wine. Our table was near the bar which detracted from the over all experience of the restuarnt whic became very loud and crowded toward the end of our meal."

  • "Oran Mor has been, and remains, one of the finest restaurants anywhere. The food is superb and the quality of service outstanding. Nantucket has many fine restaurants, but Oran Mor,depending on the day, is either number one or number two."

  • "Located on a quiet street within steps of the ferry dock, Oran Mor is an unassuming, quietly elegant spot with a lovely menu. Our interior dining area was initially a little claustrophobic, but we were soon delighted to be removed from the lively bar scene, and could see that it would be particularly cozy with the fireplace in action on a winter's night. The wait staff was attentive, and professional, despite an awkward moment of dropping glasses and plates. My Nantucket fluke was especially tender and well-presented, as had been the capacious green salad preceding the entrée. We would definitely return."

  • "We canvased the area for great restaurants prior to our visit to Nantucket . This being our first choice based on other reviews and a French menu ,we choose Oran Mor. We were offered the evening fare and given the wine list. The Server was kind enough to split a martini for the two of us , considering that we were ordering a nice bottle of wine to be served with our Dinner. Dinner was good however after each course was served we had to request silverware for that course . We all enjoy a nice dinner, but at 235.00 for 2 , plus gratuity , we should not have to request things as simple as flatware. will probably try them again and give another chance,."
