  • "Parking was available close to the resturant. The atmosphere was relaxing. We were impressed with the food presentation. Our choices were delicious, particularly the Scallop entree. There was a wonderful jazz combo providing a broad selection of music. It's a must when visiting Punta Gorda."

  • "This was our first visit to Opus, there were 3 of us for dinner. The starters and entrees were all different, all beautifully presented and very well prepared. Wine list is wide in range with some reasonably priced gems and some special occasion treats. A lovely meal, knowledgeable and pleasant server, nice atmosphere and location. We have already made a return reservation."

  • "Again and again we return to Opus to be treated to a wonderful meal at a reasonable price. Mathew provided great service and the food was spot on. My wife had the filet, nearly Chateaubriand, that was tender and tasty and I had divers scallops that were so tasty and tender they melted in my mouth. Another wonderful experience."

  • "My wife and I took friends of ours from St Michaels, Maryland, foodies and travelers for dinner. He is a vegetarian plus seafood. Our server, Michelina, was friendly, attentive and efficient and catered to us as if we were the only diners in the restaurant. The food was superb, as usual. Jim, the owner, came to our table to chat and we felt his desire for people to enjoy the restaurant and the food. Two years and many visits without a complaint, remarkable. Do your self a favor and go to Opus for lunch or dinner."

  • "Finally a restaurant in Punta Gorda that has a real steak and knows how to prepare it! Food was good service was good my wife and I had a nice experience. Its not an every night with the kids place but its a very enjoyable night out."

  • "The new Opus chef put on a wonderfully entertaining and most enjoyable special dinner for a limited number of diners. Each of seven course was personally presented by the chef, with charming explanations of his inspiration. W had a wide variety of food from many regions and cultures, all blended with just the right decorative touches. All was very imaginative and thoroughly enjoyable. The waitstaff was on top of timing and proper presentation. All in all, a first class big-city dining experience."

  • "Excellent food - My husband had the tuna tartar and I had the pate for appetizers and we both ordered the swordfish at the recommendation of our servers. We were not disappointed - it was prepared to perfection - and the presentation was very nice! We were told about the special dinner the chef was preparing for 50 guests the following day and would have loved to be included, but unfortunately we had other plans. Hope it was very successful and is something that we will attend in the future. We loved everything from the atmosphere, the sax player contributed to the ambience, the knowledgeable and friendly wait staff and the outstanding food!"

  • "Have dined at Opus before and loved it. We went there with two other couples. The pasta and seafood mains were delicious but the steak was tough. The restaurant has great ambiance and the saxophone player was really good, providing nice background music. The one disappointment was the service. While our server was exuberant, he was inattentive, forgetting orders for water or coffee, bringing beers but no glasses. We weren't served bread before our meal. These are minor things and could be attributed to a very busy Saturday evening but given the calibre of the restaurant, not really acceptable. We'd definitely go back as everything else was great."

  • "We came to Opus in celebration of my daughter's 30th birthday - along with her two small children. The staff went over and above (Shel) to see that the kids were happy with their meal - even if it wasn't on the menu. The ambience was perfect - we had a lovely time."

  • "The new chef is doing a great job with very creative, well-presented dishes. Everything was hot, timely served and beautifully plated. Great service from a fun and very competent server."

  • "We we're very disappointed in the service and the food. They were very busy but that should not effect the quality of care. The wine was good and that almost made up for everything, but not quite. We have eaten there several Times but it will be a long time before we come back. The "the airline chicken" was Terrible. I will be very hesitant to ever order the "special" again. I get no pleasure I writing this review, but hopefully you will read this and try to do Better!"

  • "We were once again impressed by the quality and creativity of the entrees, this time for lunch. Top rate downtown restaurant."

  • "Our reservation was for 7pm, we wereseatedimmediately, waited for the waiter who was pleasant, but obviously over worked with too many customers! The restaurant was nice, dishes are priced high and all is alacarte. Should be 4 $ signs. The rib eyes are more like breakfast steaks and certainly not tender. Just moved to the area and not sure we would return."

  • "Apparently the restaurant has a habit of rounding up your bill. If your bill is 17.75 and you pay with a 20 you get back 2.00. In other words the restaurant keeps the quarter. I find this unethical. Also we were shown the menu of a special evening by the new chef. Venison? This is Florida lobster would be more appropriate. Myself and all my friends have loved this restaurant and are sad to see the new chef 's menu and the practice of rounding up."

  • "My wife and I have visited Opus on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed, until this visit. Our favorite drink accompaniment had been taken off the appetizer list. We have loved the charcuterie plate with tastes of meat and cheese and relishes and breads. It is a perfect starter that can be enjoyed by up to four people with drinks. Never-the-less we had a fabulous time and substituted Tempura Shrimp as our starter. My wife had the Diver Scallops - SUPERB, and I had the Rack of Lamb. The Lamb was the best I have ever had, and I used to grow lamb and am a pretty good cook. The chops were just as I had requested, very rare, yet so tender that I could cut with my fork and they melted in my mouth. Yeah Opus. Try it!"

  • "We live in Naples and our friends live in Sarasota and we meet occasionally in Punta Gorda for dinner. This was our second visit to Opus and this time was better than the first time we were there, If there was only one compliant, it was warm in the space. Everything else was wonderful. Scottish salmon A+. We will certainly return."

  • "We visit OPUS a few times a year, and the food is always quite good. The quality is high, and the preparation is very good. We were disappointed by two things on this visit. The small combo (piano, bass, drums) was just too darn loud. It was impossible to carry on a conversation. The bass was amplified, booming, and distorted. The portions for the entrees were very small. I had the so-called "sea bass", and the entire entree consisted of a small square of fish, about 3 inches by 3 inches, perhaps 4 ounces, and a half-cup of risotto. That's it. No other sides were offered or even available. I am certainly not looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but this portion size was a lot different from out previous visits."

  • "The staff at Opus was incredibly attentive and upbeat. They made our family's anniversary celebration wonderful and we were provided with a complimentary bottle of champagne. Greatly appreciated! The food was cooked perfectly and dessert was too die for!"

  • "We thoughly enjoyed our visit on Thursday February 13 2014. The Rib Eye was done perfectly. The service from the moment we walked in the door, during dinner and upon our departure was exemplary. Our server was Meaghan. A lovely and personable young woman. Would not hesitate to return and would highly recommend the dining experience to others.."

  • "This was our first visit to Florida and we saw your full page ad in the Punta Gorda 2013-14 Visitor's Guide - We were very pleased with your website and your menu selection and we were looking for a special dinner evening before heading up north. The server was very attentive and did not rush our meal - this was a plus for us. We hope to return in 2015 and look forward to the same great service. Wishing you a Happy New Year "2014"."

  • "Both sea bass and filet mignon were overcooked to the point of dryness. For probably the two most expensive entrees this is frustrating."

  • "The food at Opus was good, not great and the ambiance very good. We were a party of 5 and all had fish dishes of differnet types. They were not memerable, acceptable. The service was friendly but the yong girl we had as ouir waitress had too many tables and was ineffective. We shared a wine bucket with another table's wine and she gave us about half of their wine! All in all, a pricey but passable fine dining restaruant."

  • "The calamari was not tender, my bisque, although tasty, was "oily" and barely warm and the grouper was dry on the end. We did not appreciate the paper covering the table cloths. Very tacky. The service was very good and attentive, and the offer of a discount in recognition of our anniversary was a nice, unexpected touch."

  • "1st THKSGVG in town, we came with conservative expectations.. Prix-Fixed Menu offered minimum portions -very nice rolls/butter+Pear Salad, but DISAPPOINTING FOOD for $34. per head <+ tx/bev/ grats = $64.ea> Horribly over-salted food (+ we use salt!). Turkey was just "Remnants" not slices+doused "juicy" -scant Gravy/ watery Cranberry. Ham slice was beyond salty... Stuffing boring. Too sweet Desserts= slender slice of pumpkin chcake) with poor $5. Cappucino (served 20min. "after" cake) Had to ask for sugar- but left no spoon. SERVICE BEYOND POOR -nice young man truly "Clueless: Got Cocktail wrong, went on to bump into walls all night. My 1st food review but I felt "burned". Compelled to warn others: think 2x B4 before making Reservations!"

  • "Those from the neighborhood tend not to dine here and I don't know why. If you are not from the area you may miss this place because there aren't many signs for this restaurant. The ambience is good. They play music at a soft level. When we were there it was 50s/60s music. The food is terrific. There are not many places in the area that can hold a candle to their food. The presentation is what you would expect for a fine dining experience. They have a full service bar and a nice wine selection. The service was tremendous. Attentive wait staff and very polite. The cost is fair and what you would expect from a restaurant of this type. Dessert was very good. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will surely go back again."
