Opus One creates a one of a kind dining experience using the freshest of ingredients, original recipes, and gracious professional service in a comfortable setting. The food is contemporary French and American with global influences and seasonal spontaneity. The Restaurant is located in Downtown Detroit within walking distance from the Renaissance Center and Greektown. The restaurant's three dining rooms showcase wine themed etched glass, beveled mirrors, and luscious oak paneled walls. The Bar is perhaps the busiest bar in Detroit. The Paladiana floor and the Italian marble, brass, and oak bar make it also the most beautiful bar in the city. It is a special place to see and be seen. Opus One has won the ‘Wine Spectator’ award every year since the restaurant opened in 1987. The service is gracious, unpretentious, and professional.

Unfortunately, Opus One closes its doors tonight after 25 years. Fortunately, they are remodeling and reinventing themselves to Opus Next to open in November. We will miss our special dinners, but look forward to the next adventures! Best of everything, Mr. Kokas!

Food was pretty good. Creme Brulee was subpar. I have had better. The crabcakes were dry not much flavor, the cheese potatoes were salty. The plate did not have enough contrasting tastes. No sweet or sour just salty for the Crab Cakes and Shrimp. However, the Asian Beef was AWESOME! That is why I gave it a very good.

Entrees here are always consistently heavenly. My teryaki tenderloin, served with basmati rice and small slices of fresh pineapple, cooked medium as I had requested, was fork tender. The New England clam chowder was thick and flavorful. My companion's Norwegian salmon entree, served with a rich burre blanc sauce, was a generous portion. Both of us were so satisfied that we reluctantly skipped dessert from a cart laden with peach cobbler, apple torte and other delectable offerings which we have ordered on previous visits.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Opus One. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was amazing. The presentation of everything was the best we've experienced! It took us back to our delicious meals on our honeymoon cruise - perfect for a 1 year anniversary! We had a very romantic evening. Thank you Opus One!

  • POOR SERVICE!!

    Dined on 5/4/2012
I took my leadership team there for lunch (7), it was my first visit. The food was great, when we actually got it. The wait staff was HORRIBLE. Six meals were delivered and one was 20 minutes after the rest with NO answers to why!! I was embarressed for the team member waiting on her steak. Our glasses set empty far too long with countless reminders!! I asked to talk to a manager and the manager never came to the table. Our waitress was absent the entire time, she was not familiar with the menu and never checked on us. I will never return to Opus one nor will I recommend it for lunch or dinner based on Service alone! I am told that this was a rare experience from friends that have been there but I was ashamed of the tratment of my team!!!!!

We have eaten at Opus One many times previous but this time was terrible. Service was bad. Had to ask for water, bread, and wine servings several times. Food was obviously pre-prepared and reheated prior to serving. The medallions were so dry they could have been used as dowels to hold the table together. Really wonder if we would go back?

I actually went off menu, in that I ordered from their regular menu instead of the restaurant week menu. It was one of the best meals I've ever had out! I had the oysters rockefeller, and the pork tenderloin and scallop duo. I was still tasting it in my imagination hours afterward.

Drink prices are outrageous. I guess I'll just have water from now on. Why do restaurants do this? I just hate getting ripped off for drinks. If Bonefish can charge $2.50-$3.00 per drink and make a profit so can these other restaurants. Tried to charge us for either changing the potato order from cheddar mashed to chive mashed, or for me eating my wife's dessert. They took this off the bill when I complained, but man how cheap can you get!!!!

Great dining experiance. From the food to the atmosphere to the service, everything was outstanding. Would highly recommend Opus One. I think our waiters name was Josh and he had extensive knowledge about wine pairings.Hopefully I got his name right as he was sooo good to us.
